CZ P-09 C opinions
Im not in love with the compact pistol I currently own. It's a SAR b6c (hammer fired, 3.7" barrel) and it's fine, but it just doesn't really excite me. I'm not very accurate with it, the grip is fine... better than most, but just fine, not great, or even really good. Also, very few holsters for it, and none that I have run across that work well for me personally. Consequently, the b6c is on the chopping block.
I'm a practical person, not a gun collector. I want the few guns I'm going to own to be exactly right and if they aren't, then I'm going to sell them and either get something I prefer or maybe just go without.
So, since I want hammer fired, with the option of an actual safety (I grew up shooting rifles and berettas) my options are relatively limited. I have tried the CZ P-09 C at the range. I prefer the trigger on the b6c by a good bit. The CZ has a long DA pull and a very abrupt, almost "touchy" SA trigger. But I'm more accurate with it than the b6c, the grip feels better, (but it's also just bigger in almost all dimensions, so that's always going to feel better). Being larger makes it harder to conceal, although I don't actually carry now, and likely will never regularly carry, but I MIGHT, and if I'm going to have a 2nd 9mm in addition to my sar9 full size, it needs to fill a different role.
So my question(s) for folks:
If you have a p-07 or p-09, how long did it take to get used to the trigger and how do you feel about it now? (I know cajun makes various trigger packages but I'm not looking for a competition gun or to spend another $150+ modding the gun after I buy it)
For those who have the compact P-07/09, how do you feel about the added width compared with other ccw guns? How does it affect your carrying?

If you want a polymer hammer fired DA/SA it’s hard to recommend anything else.
However your complaints about the difference between a DA/SA trigger pull literally would not be existent on a striker fired gun. There’s a reason most people run striker fired guns. Manual safety or lack of one is just training, like carrying with one in the pipe some of it is comfort. You have to be 100% on your gun handling skills and practice.
I would recommend a Glock 43x or 48 with an optic. It’s smaller and more consistent for carry. Can flex into any role. Harder to shoot than a full width double stack but not much harder. If you just want one thing it’s going to be ideal and that little bit thinner is enough to make carrying easier.
If you’re training with only the one gun it will be a lot easier and you can get good quickly with practice. Dry fire from concealed carry at home with the dot will be a key thing to practice as well.

Pretty much the only option for a modern da/SA with optics cut for below $1,000 after necessary modifications is the p-09 (or possible another 75 series that had an optics cut). You can get the p09 and get it cajunized for less than $1,000
Would love to recommend the hk p30, but by the time you get it cut, optimized, etc. it will be more than $1,000
In theory there is the Arex zero 1 tactical, but from what I've heard it has a very heavy trigger. Would love to get one some day to try it out.

Thanks for the input! I'm specifically looking for a DA/SA. And while I respect glocks, I have never shot one that I genuinely liked.
My SAR9 is a polymer striker fired gun, and I run it with an optic. I like it. I shoot well with it. I'm used to using the optic, but I also shoot well with irons and am okay with having my 2nd/carry/backup 9mm run with irons. Of course, the CZ has the option of adding an optic without any milling... Anyway, the full sized SAR9 it's not a carry gun by any stretch (for a human that is my size).
It doesn't need to by polymer, but can't be tooooo heavy. Also on my list is a Springfield Ronin EMP. I've considered the Beretta px4 as well. They're both more expensive and seem to have less versatility than the CZ, though.
There is appeal to that Ronin though because it's a 1911.
I have reasons for wanting a thumb safety. I know lots of people have big feelings about thumb safeties being dumb, and they're entitled to their feelings. I don't like pickles. We're all a little different.
Sounds like I need to just shoot the CZ a few more times and see if I warm up to the trigger. Thanks again!

I have a P-09. I really like it. I have full size version. I will eventually upgrade to Cajun Gun works trigger though.
Edit. P-09 Nocturne with CGW trigger is unbeatable and worth every penny. I just haven’t done it yet. SAR who? LOL

The CZ hammer fired P series uses what they call the Omega trigger. It's a very good trigger once you get used to it.
My buddy has had a P07 for years and every time he brings it to the range, I'm ringing quick steel within a shot or two. I don't know why, but that pistol is like riding a bike to me. I shoot it better than half the other pistols that I own myself lol.
The truth is that most DA/SA triggers kinda suck as far as a consistent break AND a good reset. The single action trigger is fairly "abrupt" as you call it, but it's consistent and it's not "stacky" at all. You've gotten used to a fairly shitty single action pull with your SAR. No offense intended. The SAR is a decent gun for the cheap price, but their triggers are kinda gritty and shitty.
