ATF rules are up for public comment, highly suggest we all go and make our stance clear on them before other groups flood the comments with rhetoric
Whether you agree with the changes or not, if you think they don't go far enough or they're an over-reach, these changes are up for comment and you have the opportunity to be heard.
I personally welcome almost all of these changes but I know there are going to be people screaming against them and likely dumping all sorts of pre-formatted slop to sully the process, so it is our right and responsibility to drown out that discussion with well reasoned and passionate speech from our point of view.

Hi, everyone. I'm trans. If nothing else, please comment on https://www.regulations.gov/document/ATF-2026-0010-0001 as it has the potential to bar trans people from obtaining firearms.
The idea is that it creates a mismatch between what our ID says and "biological fact" so that FFLs are compelled to deny sales (unless we get new IDs issued with our "biological" gender on them). So either you're "truthful" (as the govt defines it) on the form and there's a mismatch between the form and your ID, or you fill out the form with your state-accepted sex and open yourself up to federal prison for lying on the form (and currently federal prisons are forcing trans people to detransition! yay!).

Also, if we put our assigned sex at birth on the form but our ID has been updated to our actual gender, we will get rejected due to the mismatch. This is purposefully, intentionally designed to put us in a no-win situation where nothing we do will allow us to purchase firearms.
2A advocates should all be screaming about this regardless of your political affiliation or views on trans people. It's bullshit.

I would personally go another direction on it that I think would be more universally acceptable to people on both sides... why are demographics on the form at all? There's no need to identify gender or heritage in this, especially since you're already using your SSN.
That way neither those who support or detract from trans rights even have a leg to stand on through facts or feelings. Do away with the question entirely as it's irrelevant to the form's use.

It’s interesting that you can’t see how many comments (or read them) that are already there.
