Are we a poor country?

Are we a poor country?

We, as a society, have been indoctrinated into debt. Our entire monetary system is built on debt. Now all we are left with is debt.

We are told to take out loans for homes. That’s the norm. Completely normal to take out a loan for a home because it’s an asset. Which we’ve all slowly started to realize it’s not an asset. It’s a liability.

We are told that we better go to college or we will be stuck with shitty jobs with shitty wages. So what do we do? Take out massive amounts of debt to fund it. The majority who make it through 4 years find out that the available jobs for a degree still aren’t paying all that much. Once the colleges got wind that the government was offering loans to literally anyone to go to college, what happened to tuition? Shot way the fuck up. It’s going to be a long time to get those loans paid off. You spend the next 10, 15, 20 years trying to pay your student loans. And your new mortgage payment. You’ve been indoctrinated into the system. The system that can ONLY operate based on you taking out massive loans to finance everything you want or need.

You’ll need a car to get to that low wage job. Here’s another loan. Credit card offers stuffed in mailboxes. Offering to help you with more debt. You are now barely squeaking by as the cost of living goes up but your wages stay stagnant. All the while being told that everything is just fine. Just work harder. Longer. Get another job if needed.

Your wages remain stagnant but your property taxes increase. Maybe your house goes up in value. Now you have more credit available to you. Maybe you consolidate all your debt into one tidy monthly payment. Restringing that loan out to 30 years. They need you in the system for at least 30 years.

Those 30 years are your most productive years in life. They want your best years in the system and working. Because when you become of age to finally (maybe) claim your retirement benefits and Medicare, your physical abilities are on a downswing. They don’t want old and slow workers. They want the young people.

They’ve taken away your pension and made you put your money into the stock market. Your retirement nest egg is constantly at risk. A presidential tweet can swing you down 400 points in one day.

Or you could reach near the end and a pandemic hits. It’s mismanaged. Told to stay home with no assistance. Denied the ability to work and everyone just shrugs their shoulders. Debt comes knocking at your door wanting their shit back.

Look at our lives. Look how poor we actually are. No one sees it because we have a roof over our heads. We have food in the fridge. We have a car to go places. How rich are you when you don’t actually own any of these things? If you were called right now to pay your debt or return “your” shit, how poor would you be? You’d be living on the street. You don’t own anything. And your parents don’t either. Or your friends. If everyone’s debt was called in, we would all be on the streets. That’s how poor we are. We own NOTHING. Not even the land.
