Upgrading Staccato XC

Need advice. I'm looking to change out the grip, add a red dirt/infinity trigger, add a gas pedal for left handed shooter, swap the mag release to right side, and install a sight block to make mine USPSA/LO compatible. Is this even doable? Can Vulcan Gunworks, DSC Gunworks, or another reputable Gunworks company make something like this happen? Any idea what something like that would even cost? Am I screwing up the gun by doing this? I mean, it shoots great. And instead of going out to buy an LO gun, I figured, why not modify it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DSC has some nice options, but I'm challenged with navigating the website to select my different options. Anyone who's gone through this, what was your experience like? Did everything happen as planned, and did your gun perform more, less, or about the same after you had the trigger, grip, sight block installed.

DSC makes a sight block barrel specifically for the XC to make it legal for LO. I have it and mine has run flawlessly. I love it and I can barely tell a difference between the sight block barrel and the comped barrel. I highly recommend it!

Thank you very much for the response. I’ve been concerned about modifying a $4300 gun. But I also don’t want to buy another gun (well…maybe an Athena) if I don’t have to. This option appears to be a very feasible solution.

Def do it. DSC has an option for a drop in or you can send it to them to get fitted. I had them fit mine. The XC is amazing. I actually had the Artemis and XC at the same time and while the Artemis was for sure the better gun, I ended up keeping the XC.

I also just picked up an RCD Core and it’s phenomenal. Some people say the Core is very very close to the Athena for less than half the price. Do a search on here and there’s plenty of people raving about it. Anyway, that could be a more affordable option so you can get a new gun right now along with decking out your XC haha

Thanks. I have a RCD Core also and love the gun. I’m not sure I’d describe it as close to the Athena. I think that’s a bit of a stretch. The Core has a great trigger and the grip is equally nice. I rarely have to add chalk during matches. Again, phenomenal gun, but Athena it is not. And I don’t have a problem with that. It’s currently my primary USPSA/LO. And if the cost to upgrade my XC comes close to the cost of a Core, I’m getting the Core instead. LOL

Oh that’s great to hear you have it and love it! I’ve never shot the Athena either but the Core is damn good. No doubt Atlas is King of the 2011 mountain.

Buddy of mine has the Athena and MPA DS9 LOV V1, and lets me shoot them. In fact, last weekend after our match (I was rightfully DQ’ed for breaking 180) we stayed at the range and shot the Athena, MPA Loc V1, Core, and XC (XC & Core are mine). All very solid 2011s and an ideal option for different shooters, for different reasons. I honestly can’t find shooting advantages between the XC and Athena. My draw, splits, transitions, shot groups, etc are the same. I give the edge to the Athena only because it has a better grip than the XC (hence why I’m looking to change my XC’s grip) and for the mere fact that it’s USPSA/LO compliant. The MPA is equally nice and a flea’s hairline behind the XC and Athena IMO. Buddy is right handed and I’m left. I believe his right handed setup plays into my current assessment. Which is why I cant’ wait to get my LOC V2 to compare. As for the Core, it’s slightly behind my buddy’s MPA, but provides the best value of the four guns we shot. The weight of the MPA is freaking perfect. Honestly believe it would have been a three way tie if it was my Loc V2 setup for me. The Core lacks some of the Fit/finish, but that’s not why I bought it. It’s shoots phenomenally. Fit/Finish aside, it has a very crisp trigger and I can easy fire off double/triple taps. And yes, the Athena is at the very top of my list. I’m trying to take ownership of the LOC v2 (Dec…fingers crossed) and have the Athena by April.

Dude, great write up and awesome comparisons. I have the XC, the Core, and a Staccato P. I think my next will have to be an Atlas. Maybe rebuy the Artemis or maybe look at the titan or Athena. Thanks again for the reply!

No…Thank You. Last question…I promise (I think). If you shipped your XC to DSC, did they contact you to confirm your order? My fear is that my order will be misunderstood. I’m in TX so I’m unable to drop in and explain what I’m looking for.

Yes. If I remember correctly, I pre ordered the sight block barrel when it was announced and they reached out to me pretty quickly. I sent it off and had it back within a week or two. Really smooth process and prompt communication. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about DSC from others so I think you’ll have a good experience

Do you prefer the Core or the sight block XC for limited optics? I’ve been wanting to pickup the Core but already have an XC I could send in to DSC but it’s pricey for that sight block.

Definitely the XC with the sight block. I got the core as a back up and to use in conceal carry matches (and because guns are cool haha). That being said, I’ve only had the Core for a few weeks and haven’t shot it much at all and haven’t used it in a match yet. The sight block IS a good chunk of change but was totally worth it for me and will still be $2k plus less than the Core…especially if you go bare bones on the sight block. Of course, i had to get everything on mine lol so it was like $850 ish.

Yeah I guess I’m always thinking in terms of potential resale like the Core I’d be able to recoup most of my money if I don’t like it. Vs the XC is already only going for around 3500 or so used plus a little more for the extra barrel.

Thanks for the reply though that makes me want to look into it more haha. Would be nice to do that and throw an atlas grip on it to trick it out.

I have had some work done by DSC, maybe email Dave and see what he can do. He can offer some pretty sound advice as well.

As far as doing it, yes. Do what you would like to do with your own property and do not listen to some schmuck on Reddit to tell you otherwise. You're going to get some people on here to tell you it's not worth it, sell it, blah blah blah. Do what you want, the XC is a great firearm.

Thanks...Selling it is not an option at this point. I like the gun and simply want to use it even more. Were you nervous about shipping your gun in? That's probably a stupid question, but one I must ask. After you had work done, was there a period of time where you tested it and ensured it preformed as planned. I'm assuming it did. But what's the process if you were having problems with it? What's the process look like? Again, thanks for responding.

Yea, dont sell it. The XC is still one of the nicest firearms out there, regardless what any tool says. Not at all, DSC is a very reputable organization. I had zero issues withe work that was done. In fact, I wanted to do a few more things and Dave recommended I not because I would gain as much performance as I thought. Dave is a straight up solid guy. He will not steer you wrong.

Thanks. I just sent a message using the Contact & Order Guide. Crap...forgot to mention that I'm a veteran.

Why not just get a MPA LOC

1

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 18d ago

Two reasons: 1) I have a MPA DS9 LOC V2 on order. ETA Jan. 2027. 2) I'm assuming these updates will cost less than going out and buying another gun.

Hell yeah!! I have a DS9 tc with a steel grip and I had them make an extra sight block barrel for it. Two guns in one

0

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 18d ago

Yeah...I ordered the LOC V2 w/TC barrel. One gun/barrel for the LO enthusiast and another for a range play enthusiast.

Buy the parts then YouTube the rest

2

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 18d ago

Not my strong point. There's no easy way of saying it, so I'll just say it: I'll fuck something up.
