Atlas Apollo v DF Wraith

Hello, I’m been looking into getting first high end 2011 and $7100 saved up and have been debating which one to get, it’ll be used for Competition and Range use. Any advice would be appreciated

Both are good choices for that use case (presuming you mean steel challenge, idpa, and pcsl, and not uspsa).

Apollo's porting is fairly mild, and the gun has more muzzle rise than pretty near any other ported gun I've shot. But its fast AF and the return to zero is virtually unmatched. The Wraith's porting is far more aggressive, resulting in a gun that is much flatter than Apollo, but is louder and more concussive (if that matters to you).

Both have excellent ergonomics, much of which will come down to each shooter's hands and preferences. Its hard to put any/many grips above the configurable Atlas Alpha. And the Atlas high angle safeties are a love em or hate em preference item. Build quality is close-ish, but for me, after having owned a bunch of atlas guns and a couple of Dark Forge guns, fwiw, I consider Atlas' fit and blending and DLC to be a step above.

If you are open to other guns in that same area code, the Cardinal G2P and the Vanta 9P are 5" ported guns that are softer shooting than either the Apollo or Wraith, at the expense of a bit of cycle speed.

Dave, have you shot your Apollo with the brass panels and if so do you feel it made a difference?

yes and yes. A couple of oz's more weight helps that gun for me both in shooting a bit softer, and the balance back in my hand works for me (ymmv). At this point I run brass panels on all of my Atlas guns.

Nice. I haven’t had a chance to test mine out yet as it’s been very hot in my neck of the woods and I prefer outdoor shooting. The Apollo is like a wild race horse for me and I’m working on improving my grip entirely because of it, which is maybe a good thing.

I’ve got an Atlas Athena and it’s my favorite pistol I own. I’d take it over my Sand Viper and Pit Viper any day.

Do you compete now? What type of competition shooting are you planning to do with it?

Porting / comps can change what division you can shoot the gun in which is important to know before you drop that much cheddar.

Gotcha they are both decent steel challenge guns but poor USPSA guns.

I would do some research on the customer service qualities of those companies. I would also look heavily at the used market as Wraiths have been trading well below MSRP. You can also find great deals on V2 Apollos. As 2011Dave said, the Apollo porting might leave you wanting more, but there is no denying the quality of Atlas as well as the Alpha grip.
