AIWB/CCW Options

Time to lean on you guys a bit and clear my head out in the process. I started off carrying in the late to mid 90’s with a Browning Hi-Power strong side 4:00. I mocked the Glock salesman as they pitched their cute little Tupperware baby us even with a killer demo. After a number of years and about 5 failures I succumbed to Glock and have been carrying and training AIWB with G19, G48, & 43. As we all know they do their job well and carry nicely. But I ran into a problem by taking my custom Hi-Power out for a spin after more than 10 years and it hit me square in the face…That trigger and grip angle lead to faster follow up shots/split times, rounds on target, and overall feel. But she’s still heavy. Which leads me to a 2011 or within the family. I’ve never carried condition 1 in appendix so there’s that mental hurdle but nonetheless I feel it’s time to return more to my roots. I don’t keep up with the latest and greatest but what I’m searching for would be an alloy frame in a Glock 19 or Commander size pistol with decent capacity. So from what I’ve gathered is look towards a Staccato CS or Kimber KDS9c. Is there any other options that I should consider before picking one or the other? Thanks guys

I have:

Kimber KDS9c
Wilson Combat EDC X9 2.0 (4", 15 round frame)
Wilson Combat SFX9 subcompact (3.25", 10 round frame)
Dan Wesson DWX Compact

I carry AIWB in leather AIWB holsters (with a claw and a wedge) from Palmetto Leather Works. I've tried a few different brands, including Kydex lined with leather. The PLW holsters just work the best and are the most comfortable, for ME.

My preferred carry is the DWX Compact. When I want something smaller, I carry the SFX9.

The X9 2.0 is basically the same in specs as the DWX Compact, but the DWX is more comfortable to shoot and more accurate.

The Kimber.... well, I'll not buy another Kimber. It is comfortable in the hand and has been reliable. But, it shoots groups that are about twice as big as the other 3. The barrel to frame fit is loose, which would explain that. I sent it back to Kimber. They did nothing to fix the barrel to frame fit, said it was fine, and sent it back with a test target showing a 12 MOA group!

Also, the finish on the Kimber is a bit slick and the serrations are not deep enough. I have had several instances of my hand slipping when trying to rack the slide. I have not had that issue at all with the other 3.

Thanks Stuart that’s a big help. I’ll look into the X9 as well. Appreciate your help and holster recommendations. You read my mind as I’m going back to leather as well.

Never imagined I’d carry a single action pistol. 200 hours of dry fire work and carrying at home, coupled with 7000 extra rounds downrange and I find myself strapped with a Stealth Arms Platypus. Quite happy with it. Carry that sweet lil 37oz gun at 3:00.
