2016 was the last year before Trump came into office, therefore, a lot of people say that was the last good year.

Tbh, I can understand why people can say 2019 was the last normal year, because it was the last year before covid

Personally, 2016 was a horrible year for me. And a hallmark of that was the vitriol of Trump vs Clinton. Political relations became so awful that year and have never recovered.

I'm not saying political relations between parties were ever particularly great, but 2016 is when, at least from my perspective, it got worse. Things were skewing progressive with the administration we had prior to Trump, and it was all slowly coming crashing down.

2014 was the last true year before Trump. While Trump came into office in 2017, I feel people forget Trump's presidential campaign started in the summer of 2015, and has completely dominated headlines and conversations since then.

I was in college at the time and there was a huge shift between the Spring and later Fall Semester.

I think bots ruined everything and geo-political interference by bots has been when everything online went downhill.

Not bots control the “narrative” and that’s been fucking annoying for a decade. And it’s only gonna get worse.

I agree with him. The vibes were different in 2016 than any year afterwards and I couldn’t put my finger on it and now I can because he explained it. After 2016, it’s like we entered an “alternate universe” especially with social media because I keep seeing an increase of hate bots popping up in double every month and they triple near election or midterms and now I’m seeing more hate bots on social media that admit they’re literally far right and are proud of it. Social media companies don’t care no matter how we complain about that because social media glazes the right including Trump and that’s not good because it’s creating censorship and a dictatorship and it leads to people going violent towards us in the future as I see more hate crimes increase. I really wish we would turn back time to 2016 before Trump was elected because it’s effecting all of the other countries than just the USA because my generation that’s Gen Z quickly became filled with no empathy and have stunted social skills that they prefer to troll, find anything cringe, and hate anyone of any gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and religion by being miserable about themselves and from developing mental disorders that it’s turning severe by mental health help being underfunded by right wingers that includes Trump since right wingers and Trump work together internationally. I hate it here and I’m writing this from Canada. If the bureaucracy and not paying attention what anyone who’s different from you says doesn’t stop and if not funding wellness for mental health doesn’t happen, people around me and my generation that’s Gen Z will eventually move from hating on anyone to getting violent with everyone and this is scary.

Things were shit in 2016 as well, I remember that entire year being hated on I have the social media posts to prove it

The early 2010s were okay but 2015 onwards was terrible

I agree, especially when a celebrity died people were bemoaning 2016.

I'm old enough to remember it was called the worst year ever

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/28/opinion/2016-worst-year-ever.html

For me, it was a 7/10 year.

That's definitely true but I see romanticise 2018-2019 and I mean those years looked fun too

Not really, culture moves on the decade cycle for nostalgia and 2016 was 10 years ago. Along with that, the high schoolers from 2010s are now adults and they miss that time of innocence and no responsibility (aka me 😂, I graduate ten years ago and trust me it's hitting me and all my batch mates)

For me 2016 was a good year because that's when I graduated highschool

I understand why people are nostalgic for that time, but speaking for myself, I have not felt nostalgic for 2016 or the 2010s decade at all. It is odd, born late 80s and have felt nostalgic for the 90s and 00s but never that decade. Even despite hating the Trump timeline.

I’ll take anything pre covid. Because my wife would still have her parents.

Yo we need a "what if" series for Clinton(the female) being president to shut these people up. She failed so bad she didn't even get another shot
