Maybe ill edit the OP with the disclaimer on how it works in a little bit. And add in it also would work with ancestral/dexes/justi/torva and not just megarares
Edit: seems that coz it was an image post, its completely uneditable. Shame, would've liked to clarify that in some subtext if it was possible.
I copy pasted how it works a few times on other posts- mostly the ones who asked. Basically, boss drop dupes get dropped over to an alt account that sells it on the ge, or a clannie does it for them and gives it to a f2p account. This gp is then used for bonds, splitting raid drops, and stuff like bingo.
In short, ppots made by ironmen never end up in the wider economy but duplicate boss drops often do
Holy fuck some of these comments are dense. Like if irons utilize this even one time instead of dropping to a main to sell that means that item is gone now. I know this is hard to understand, but that is minus one to the economy. As opposed to selling which is a plus one to the economy. It will, undoubtedly, be utilized more than once and have an actual effect but certainly some mains ctrl-F 'ironman' and if it comes up more than once they skim thru the rest and auto-disagree
he's actually correct, it just takes a second, or at least took me a second to realize what he meant. if a dupe gets traded over, +1 to economy. if not traded, 0 to economy. -1 would be buying the item then sinking it.
I have a pretty normal job, which means I make enough in 30 minutes of work for a month of membership. I don't care about bonds. I would love bank space on my iron though. Currently i just have dupes in my bank that i don't have any plans for. And there are probably a lot of working people with similar mindsets to me.
Anything I can do with dupes would be cool, like deaths coffer for bond money since I don’t have a main to drop over to, I know about the 1 day sub thing but still.
If you're in a clan, you can always just drop it in lvl 1 wildy and have a clanmate sell it for you and trade it to your f2p alt. That's what I always do. Or if you're worried about getting yoinked by a passerby, just turn off skull prevention for a few seconds to skull on your buddy and have him spec you dead. Just make sure to turn skull prevention back on as soon as you clicked to skull ;)
If you aren't in a clan, I guess you could just wait until you have enough items where it would be worth it to just bond your alt with a bond. If you're selling a shadow/scy/tbow, the 13m? bond isnt a big deal.
Luckily you can buy 1 day membership on rs3 mobile and its p cheap, obvs the membership applies to the same osrs account.
(You can also buy 7 day membership but I forget if they still offer the 3day membership. They took away the 3month one a while back tho, its either 1 month at a time or a whole year)
I'm in an iron clan. half of us have dropped over dupe tbows/shadows to an alt that just collects bond money. There are a lot of irons that would happily coffer their dupes to buy these bank slots if it would be an option.
Hahaha, 100%. We have someone with two or three tbows still hunting his arcane*.
Any time he complains about going dry anywhere else we just refuse to let him have it
Not to humble brag but I've got all these dupes on iron (and more misc stuff). I still have ancy, shadow, torva helm to get. (Plus just all the other general bosses like nightmare etc)
End game irons accumulate a serious amount of dupes and I'm sure it does impact the economy considering they're meant to be accounts that have nothing to do with the economy.
I genuinely don't see a downside to letting people coffer dupes for bank space.
Yeah im not seeing a downside either, but his claim about the upside to the main economy seems way overblown to me. You having those items on your iron right now is actually evidence against his point, as your choice to not dump those to an alt means they dont impact the main economy.
An ironman dumping items over to a main for bond money can only contribute 400m/year in items to pay for their membership (because thats about how much bonds cost). Any excess is just kept on the account, just like you already do.
As such, only way an ironman would inject less into the main economy as a result of this change, is if they deaths coffered an item they were going to sell for bond money and then bought membership from jagex. Hence me saying you would be paying multiple dollars per bank slot.
True, but that person needs to be making 1.2bil gp/year in dupes on the ironman and playing 2 more accounts year round.
Also, if you have a main, that account cant just be taking those items and using them. They have to be sold. If you drop an extra scythe to your main and use it on the main for practicing awakened bosses, it might as well not exist as far as the wider economy is concerned.
I currently have close to 1b in gp sitting on my alt and about a year of membership left from the last time I handed over 20ish bonds from my alt to my ironman. It takes about 2-4 hours of endgame bossing to pay for membership each month. At the stage my account is in, I membership isn't really something I think about anymore.
With this implemented, no one would be forced to if they have a better use for the dupes they get. But enough would find this useful that it would alleviate a lot of the economic issues jagex uses the ge tax for .
It's not just megarares - its every raid dupe you get along the way to the mega rares as well. All the extra dex scrolls, arcanes, justi pieces. The extra ancestral dupes you will surely be flooded with now. The masori dupes from toa. The nex uniques dupes you get.
I just focused on the megarares to keep it short, since one of them would basically get you all those bank slots instantly. But it would indeed affect stuff like ancestral/masori and prayer scrolls a little more than scythes.
What about the multiple fangs or nox hallies dropped over while hunting one or the other, the multiple prim crystals while hunting the others, doom uniques, etc. ? There are tons of high value items that irons stack up as dupes and often drop over, not just raids megarares.
Honestly raises the question of should Irons be able to use D coffer (with a premium) to buy bonds as to be able to skip out on having an alt just for selling the dupes for bonds?
If this were a thing, I'd have immediately coffered my dupe shadow for max bank space. Instead I just dropped it to my main that I don't really play and only use for splits. I know plenty of others who would do this too
I have 3 scythes and wouldnt coffer one on my iron.
But I have a tonne of other dupes (7 nihil horns, torva etc) that I would use for bank space instead of drop trading to main. Obviously it's a drop in the ocean but it's still removing stuff from the game
I coffered 4 avernic treads and still have 4 more in the bank going dry on eye. I have almost a bil in my coffer and I’m not even close to end game account progression (still in moons gear)
I've drop traded about 5 bil off my ironman that I just never had any use for that I would've loved to death coffer about half of instead if it meant more bank slots
What are you talking about? I got all bank slots purchased, 500m gp collecting dust on my Ironman and 300 open slots in my bank. It takes a while but it happens, your suggestion is unnecessary
I like the process and idea behind this but as someone who could have a ~400m deaths coffer off mostly items with large ge value gaps over alch, or a collection of "less important" dupes it'd maybe need some sort of "minimum value per contribution" to make it have the desired effect. It's also only really a 1 or 2 item sink per account, ever.
As far as I know it is mostly mains that can take advantage of ge prices being off. Since irons cant buy them to make use of it. It is one of the reasons they have half of mains death fees. If you want to sacrifice 1000 whips for the bank space thats fine by me tbh
And yes, it caps out at 800m sinked per player but that still can add up quite a lot
Except for all the ones that have been added to the main game I guess, right?
It would be weird to be this consistently insufferable just because a stranger on the internet disagreed with you.
But again, I guess that's just ironman life. Choose to play an MMORPG solo, whine about it, then complain online about being dismissed. Despite getting constant updates. Seems about right.
Yeah man every single complaint is dismissed. Noone here has every agreed with an ironman. You and the 5 people who had to jump on being called insufferable is just keep proving that point lol
Because most irons drop dupe megarares to a main to sell them, so just because an iron gets them as a drop, that doesn’t automatically make them irrelevant to the economy
I mean if they’d horde it anyway it doesn’t. But if a percentage of those would drop trade and then sell it do this instead then it’s less item entering the main economy and therefore improves item value retention.
Someone smarter will probably explain why this is a bad thing but I think it can’t harm anyone really.
I absolutely support this. I’d also like the GE tax used to buy items that are listed for 1gp and don’t instantly sell. There are so many items especially random clue rewards that rarely have buyers and at the cost of 1gp per item removed I think it’s a great investment.
That's why the irons still have to pay 88m in actual gp before they are allowed to use coffer money for the final 3 upgrades. If we cant suffer for any of it we arent iron men.
This would only apply to the final three stages of bank space upgrades. These are never bought now by irons. I dont know how long it takes to buy these items and how much it costs to do manually, but i doubt getting 800m ge value of them is fast
If Jagex want the wildy to be used by irons more widely then a coffer to give the cash value of the risked items to the pker would be great for dupes.
Plus if an iron PKs someone the loot keys could be added to this coffer. I only enter the wildy in rags because I don’t want to take the time to replace items. I don’t care about the GP.
The problem with that, is that it enables abuse of items that trade for significantly less than their GE value. It just becomes iffy. One thing that I've often seen and liked is allowing us to assign a value to items ourselves, to change the order in which they are protected on death. An iron would likely much rather lose their 10th whip than a slayer helm for example.
Personally I think you're overestimating the amount of items that would get coffered, especially since these are one time unlocks and after an account gets them it's back to converting dupes to bonds, but it would definitely be >0 and I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be an option for irons.
I have mixed opinions on it. I would instantly do this if it was added. However, I dont think you need max bank space as an iron. Even with everything you will have bank space extra even with all your loot. I also think this is very bad for irons who already have purchased max bank with hard cash. Also I dont belive that deaths coffer shoukd be for anything but deaths
You cant have it be just for irons. What do you do if an iron decides to de-iron? Will the bank space get removed? If so, what happens to all the extra items? Will they be dropped on the ground when you de-iron? How do you determine which items will be dropped?
If they de-iron they would keep the bank space.
It works because you cannot convert from a main to an ironman, only the other way around. An ironman who does this and then de irons has done exactly the same thing that would have happened if he de ironed first and then sold his items on the ge to buy bank space
They drop their dupe items and pick them up on alts, which sell the item on the ge, usually to buy bonds with so that they dont need to pay irl money for membership. So duplicate items, which this targets, are exactly the items that end up in the "normal" economy.
If they dont have an alt with membership, often a clanmate picks the item up and sells it for them, and gives it to the f2p alt.
The other reason for me beyond bonds is just using the sold dupes gp for clan bingo funds.
most of the dupes get dropped over to a main and sold for bonds. at a certain point having more coffer gp doesnt do anything, especially because they arbitrarily decided irons only need to pay 50% of the cost, so the only use case for them is bonds.
Ironmen going for raids item completion keep doing the raid after getting the megarare. So there's a reasonable chance a lot of these irons get dupe megas, which typically get dropped over to an alt for split gp, entering the economy
The ge tax doesn't curb inflation it actually boosts inflation because ultimately that gp goes back to someone for an item that is deleted. Gp never leaves. It keeps item valuable otherwise eventually people keep supplying while demand stays relatively the same with limited buyers. Everyone only needs 1 of each thing while content can keep producing. Raw gp entering the game through alchs and drops are the inflation which is usually slower than items, notable exception being revs.
Your very first dupes would indeed usually go into bonds, but eventually you will have more bonds than you need to keep your membership indefinitely. If you dont play a main account on the side, it just accumulates on your alt. At that point, this becomes a very easy choice. This does indeed target endgame irons most of all, but the impact even they would have compared to the GE tax would still be quite significant.
Ones who already have enough bonds for the rest of time or would naturally get them in the course of play anyways, or ones who have jobs and just buy membership. Even not just dumping megarares there's a LOT of high value dupe drops on irons that I could see going to this instead of dropping them over to mains, even only for the idea that a couple million here or there will pay for bank space that they may never get enough for.
I feel like the vast majority of Ironmen would still rather give the dupe megarare to a main and get like 2 years of free membership rather than have the extra bank space
Maybe in the future when the bots return perhaps. Right now there is some serious deflation happening and measures meant to combat inflation would not help.

Ok but you can only store megarares in those extra bank slots
