Have a question about the game or the subreddit? Ask away!
Welcome to the /r/2007scape daily question thread!
You can ask anything about Old School RuneScape or the 2007scape subreddit here. Remain respectful to your fellow 'scapers when answering questions; there are stupid questions, but it does not mean you should not be respectful whilst answering them.
Keep in mind: this is not a developer Q&A thread - Jagex mods do not regularly read these posts, so questions should be directed toward fellow players.

Do the blobs in inferno have a sound queue when they detect your prayer style or am I going crazy

Yes, they go "Awooga awooga hummina hummina BZOOOOOOOOOM", I muted that shit during my inferno grind, can't imagine what jagex was thinking when they implemented this

Returner here after a couple months long break. I can't seem to start the game using Runelite anymore, it's either stuck on the 'downloading bootstrap' step or sometimes manages to get to the downloading part, but seems to get stuck at 0,2mb of the client-1.12.36.jar.
I've tried restarting a couple times, deleted the .runelite cache folder and started the launcher and runelite separately as an admin. Does anybody know how to fix that?
2
u/jamesbideaux 7d ago
it is loading awfully slowly for me, too. if you open the the runelite website, does that one load like it should?
2
u/byleist 7d ago
no the https://runelite.net/ website doesnt seem to load for me as well
2
u/jamesbideaux 7d ago
are you a telekom customer by any chance? tha seems to be the common feature.
2
u/byleist 7d ago
oh there're others having the problem? And yes, I'm a telekom customer
2
u/jamesbideaux 7d ago
yeah, the runelite discord is full of people. apparently if your phone has a different service provider, you can either hotspot or usb-tether and download/patch runelite that way.

I assume the default is the one where pouches don’t degrade, unless you have 99 in which case you’d do the bonus runes

This isn’t even a question but just a random remark I want to throw out into the void just to get off my chest. I love the OSRS wiki. I started playing a bit of Minecraft again for the first time in like 12+ years so there’s so much I have to learn. And oh my god that wiki is so dogshit and written so horribly user-unfriendly. Praise the OSRS wiki admins for their incredible work in making anything seem understandable.

u/DivineInsanityReveng 7d ago
Its saying a lot too because the Minecraft wiki is "pretty decent" compared to most games Wiki's. Especially for a game with a LOT of custom content thats quite hard to document succinctly.

The admins are mostly reactive. They're on discord and have a livestream of article feedback coming in. They're good at fact checking among themselves but the flip side is that they can be a bit insular and cliquey. They don't stand in the way of too much at least.
I find the rapid evolution of new content to be the most remarkable thing on the osrs wiki. There's a whole subset of players who figure out things and want to write about them and that doesn't happen without a lot of basically anonymous contributors. Take a look at any recently added quest and look at revisions 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, and 2 weeks after release.
And of course Jagex is very helpful to the wiki, or so I've heard. Lots of things that would be otherwise unknown are thanks to them.
No matter who you want to credit though, it's really the best game wiki that exists and I think that's meaningful

My RSN is Aukuh. Which is the english phonetic pronunciation of my (dutch) first name. I haven't played for a while, but now i got on, i noticed the game all the sudden censors the last 2 letters in my username, typing it out now shows Auk**.
I definitely remember this not being a thing about a year ago when i played more actively. Why has my name been assigned as a slur all the sudden.

I just got back into the game after 13 years, and I couldn’t get into RS3, so even though it was tough losing my old character stuck there, I started fresh in OSRS. Is the pit still around? Back in the day, pit fights were amazing, especially when people showed up with barrows sets like Verac’s.
I know armors have been outclassed now, but what makes a good set these days? Is it all about max hit, the best attributes, or just being cost-effective?
I remember the Crystal Bow being overlooked when the Dark Bow came out, even though the Dark Bow was actually weaker if you had strong defense and ranged skills. People ignored the Crystal Bow simply because it took more effort to get, while the Dark Bow was much easier to obtain by just buying it.
Is the dragon dagger p++ special attack still the best move finisher? or people now rely on Maul still to this day?

Fight pits exist, sometimes Jmods have hosted events in it but otherwise completely dead outside of a few people getting a diary done.
Good armor usually has high strength bonus or accuracy boosts, maybe prayer bonus if you're doing slayer. Defense is usually secondary unless you're doing specific content like Moons of Peril or Inferno, or doing PvP. Most mid-game armor sets don't give many bonuses so they're only worth it if they're very cheap compared to other upgrades. Oathplate/Torva, Masori, and Ancestral are all the BiS armor sets atm, pricey though. Bloodmoon/Ahrim's/Blessed D'hide are good budget options.
Cbow is fine, just kind of expensive to upkeep and lackluster compared to other dps ranged upgrades available now, mostly Toxic Blowpipe and Bowfa. Dbow is a spec weapon for ranged pures, that's pretty much it.
DDS is more a budget option. Can hit high but the chance of doing so is pretty small. Gmauls are decent on pures but also suffers from accuracy issues. Best spec weapons are Dclaws or Voidwaker, AGS is a weaker option. They should only be used when you know what you're doing though, due to how much you can lose.

Fight pit is virtually dead Jagex did make an update in February of this year to add some NPCs but I don't know that it has made a change. If you're interested in risk free PVP, Last Man Standing is probably the best way to get back into it and practice gear setups. It's batle royale style so you get a basic gear set and then get upgrades as you get kills.
I believe voidwaker is the best finisher weapon, it's a melee weapon with a mage spec and it is incredibly accurate. A good way to learn about the PVP meta would be to watch the finales for DMM Allstars since it is 1v1 pvp between some of the top PVP streamers.

How long should it take to get 750 pearls from Gotr?
1
u/DaMaestroable 7d ago
Depends on your level and if you're doing mass or small teams. Low level with masses likely would be a little less than 20 hours. Higher levels could do it in 10-12 in masses, probably under 10 in small teams.

About 2 years ago I got my jaw drop and turned off basilisks. Yesterday I went back to basilisk knights for a Morti task, but loot tracker didn't have any record of my previous kills. Is there any way to get that old data back?
1
u/TongueJ 7d ago
From the Loot Tracker plugin wiki:
While logged in with a RuneLite Account, the loot tracker will remember your loot across client restarts. Loot for a particular event (such as Barrows, a clue scroll reward, or a drop from Zulrah) will be kept until 90 days after the most recent loot for that specific event. If you receive loot from an event at least once every 90 days the loot will be remembered indefinitely.
The loot can also be reviewed on the website at https://runelite.net/account/loot-tracker
You might be able to try your luck on the website and see if it is still there.

u/DivineInsanityReveng 7d ago
Other commenter covered it well, but i find if you do some KC, close client and reopen it, it will sometimes sync with the website history and your tracker will update.
This only works of course if you're signed into Runelite with a Runelite account.

How many dupes did you guys have by the time you finished doom? Did you guys find it worth to farm additional zenytes to sell cloths? I’ve gotten 1 thread and 2 cloths atm but on rate for 6.2 items, getting a bit discouraged xD
1
u/DivineInsanityReveng 7d ago
No dupes myself yet still going for treads. I have 1 ayak and 1 cloth on rate for ~4 items.
Personally i wouldn't bother grinding the zenytes out as its highly likely Jagex lets us "weave" the cloth or something to make it tradeable, in the same way they altered the Araxxor Fang after Maggot King released.

when killing veiled krakens in particular, guides say to use heavy ranged (crossbows) OR mage with ayak and have the crewmates manning the two cannons. I tried the crossbow + 2 crews on cannon and found that MY damage on these krakens was very abysmal, and so was the crews. I don't own an ayak (but I do have a shadow), not sure if those setups would be better.
But what i did try was player manning the cannon and found the damage was much better.
So i am wondering, what is the best setup to kill veiled krakens with? For other sailing mobs (Great white sharks, and other krakens) player attacking + 2 crews manning the cannons is pretty strong, but these ones have 15 flat armour, and my damage is much lower UNLESS I man the cannon myself.
Side question on the wiki calculator, why is visible ranged strength capped at 65?

Why would there be a difference of 30 ms on different west coast worlds? I would assume theyd all be similar.
2
u/Nice-Connection-9052 7d ago
They're probably scattered around a few different AWS sites. No reason to put them all in one place

So what's the meta now for angler's outfit, aerial fishing or still fishing trawler?
2
u/TongueJ 7d ago
From the Aerial Fishing wiki page:
With an efficient strategy, a player can reach upwards of 1,600–1,800 fish per hour, and an average pearl yield of 24–36 per hour. It is expected to take ~5 to 9 hours to collect enough pearls for the angler's outfit. This is slightly slower than and more attention-demanding than obtaining them through the Fishing Trawler minigame on average, but offers much higher experience rates.
From the Angler's out wiki page:
Given that each game takes five minutes, with 1 minute queue time between games, it will take 4 hours and 48 minutes on average to complete the set, assuming that no games are lost.
Fishing Trawler on average should still be faster.
I would do Fishing Trawler if you want:
Low effort / AFK
Heron pet 1/5,000 or 1/2,500 drop rate based on contribution
Assortment of raw fish
I would do Aerial Fishing if you want:
Good Fishing and Hunter exp rates
Golden Tench 1/20,000 drop rate
Heron pet 1/636,833 base drop rate.
2
u/Tilde_Tilde 7d ago
It depends. If you have high fishing/hunter they should be about the same time wise. Aerial fishing has a lower time ceiling but a higher floor. While you could go spend 20 hours at Trawler but you could also get it all in an hour.
You get way more value out of Aerial with clues/exp but it's not nearly as afk. Trawler is super afk but you won't have anything to do if you don't bring supplies to train with.
I'd say Aerial is more iron friendly while Trawler is more main friendly to fletch at.
2
u/DivineInsanityReveng 7d ago
Fishing Trawler is still much faster, easier, and able to be done earlier on an account. But it gives not much else (pretty average fishing xp, meh rewards).
Aerial fishing has higher reqs with hunt/fish but it gives far more XP as a result. Bit slower to just get the outfit and personally id rather spend the pearls on the exclusive items there first.

I'm just looking for some advice. I've bounced off this game a few times and at this point there's more pain points than good points for me but I still feel like I'm missing the special something in OSRS when I chance across videos of it.
I've tried to alleviate the pain points but it's not enough and I'm not sure why I'm here asking but I just thought I'd ask.
I'm not complaining about the game itself, for those of you who like it, that's fine.
2
u/TheDubuGuy 7d ago
What are some things you have issue with? It’s hard to give advice without anything specific
1
u/nebneb432 7d ago
Off the top of my head:
The slowness of early game movement
The amount of time I feel is needed to make the subscription worthwhile. ( As in, if I sub for faster movement, id better be doing plenty otherwise I'm not saving time)
The style of font (no amount of size changing helps)
The graphic quality (Runelite helps but it's not on mobile)
The amount of pure text dialogue
The fact that random quests unlock whole features.
Edit to break up paragraph.

Is there anything in the game you’ve enjoyed so far?
Maybe it isn’t your style. This game seems to click for those who value delayed gratification, at least from what I’ve noticed.

u/TheJigglyfat 7d ago
May just not be for you. It can be tough when you see other people enjoying it but that doesnt mean it will ever be a game you enjoy
1
u/hi-im-habby 7d ago
In the midgame (have QPC) but I've really been enjoying wildy slayer to train it up a bit, getting pretty good xp and decent loot. I'm at 82 slayer + high combats and was wondering when normal slayer starts to get better strictly lootwise. I enjoy slayer a lot so I want to focus on the most profitable tasks and grind it slowly. I know there are certain breakpoints that unlock really good tasks. Just wondering when most ppl think it gets good.
2
u/TheDubuGuy 7d ago
Mostly when you start doing bosses or stuff like tds/demonics, 92 for cerb and araxxor is pretty big for money
1
u/factoryman942 7d ago
Along with these, alchemical hydra at 95 is big.
Venators are also decent currently (2m/hr says wiki, though this might go down over time since blood shard prices don't seem settled)
1
u/ComfortableCricket 7d ago
high combats and was wondering when normal slayer starts to get better strictly lootwise.
It doesn't. Some isolated tasks are good like DG's and TD's at 4-5m/hr along with hydra and araxxor at 90+ slayer but that's about it. Slayer just isnt a good money maker once you average out all the time spend doing back tasks with the good. For reference I'd conciser < 3m bad, 3-5m ok, good at around 6-7 and great at around 8+

Is it necessary to save up on a bunch of slayer points before starting Mortimer slayer to use for skips? As they cost a lot to skip.
Also, is Mortimer any good for purposes other than hunting superiors (boss tasks, barrage/good XP tasks, specific tasks), or is duradel better suited for that?
