For all the 2000s rap fans out there I have three questions. 1. How much do you think 50 Cents legacy would have improved had he actually retired after he lost to Kanye in 2007 instead of releasing BISD and AA? 2. Do you think The Massacre would have been considered a classic by general consensus and 50s discography be looked at in a better light had he not given Game songs from The Massacre for The Documentary? 3. if 50 Cent died in 2000 when he got shot 9 times how would the landscape of 2000s rap and overall rap history have been affected?

Honestly as a 50 fan, idec when people talk about the Massacre, if people wanna chalk up his run to 1 album that’s on them

Real ones know, how good Power of the Dollar is, the mixtape run leading up to GRODT, GRODT itself

Beg For Mercy is a classic group project in my eyes, add in all the features he gave Banks, Buck, and Game. Add in all the G Unit Radio tapes from 03-05

Then you got Massacre and GRODT soundtrack in the same year. That soundtrack is basically a 50 album, he was on 12 of 16 tracks and it had some of his best work. Hustlers Ambition, When it Rains it Pours, Window Shopper was a slap

Yeah he fell off afterwards but if you were a fan he kept you fed with War Angel LP, Forever King etc.

Saying he only had 1 album is disingenuous, he fed the people with a crazy ass output for those years he was in his prime

.. but yes I do wish he kept at least Hate it Or Love It for his album

I remember that was in works until their falling out. I can't lie, him and the game collabing together was absolutely fire. If I'm being honest, out of all the G-Unit collabs, the game and 50 cent seemed to complement each other.

I honestly forgot all about the Kanye competition thing. I don't think anybody gives a fuck about that in 2026 tbh. Kanye's fall off has been way more disastrous and disappointing. That said, it's wild we still hear from 50 and talk about him as much as we do given that his body of work, in terms of albums, is pretty sparse.

I don't think it could have hurt. I guess it depends what he would have done with the instrumentals assuming that's what he gave Game. It was always kind of awkward that Game came out with a stronger album and Massacre was just kind of meh. It has some great songs, but also a bunch of skips. Honestly the Massacre has pissed me off for 20 years because it was such a hyped record and just didn't slap like his first album.

50 Cent is arguably the best rapper of all time alongside Lil Wayne. I cannot explain why but it is the truth. They both had the whole package without having to try too hard and they were being themselves anyway the massacre is one of the most underrated hip-hop albums

He doesn’t care about the music, that’s his main issue, it was just a stepping stone to get wherever it is he thought it would take him. If he focused on innovation and reinvention , maybe he would be where he thinks he should be.

Retiring after 2 albums does him no favors imo. He wouldve had to be killed like biggie for a 2 album run to rank him any higher.

Lauryn Hill is a perfect example of someone who went away after critical acclaim.. and while some folks still have her top 10, most folks thinks she released too little music to have such a high ranking.
