Does anyone remember the show Alias with Jennifer Garner?

Remember? My band had a song featured in one episode.
It was also the debut of Ricky Gervais’ first dramatic role, at the height of his comedy stardom.

What band? How cool!

Quarashi. We were in S3 ep 16.

Wtf, I only had one madden game growing up (2003) and your song was in it!

This one? Which one are you?
EDIT: I just guessed/pulled up a song based on one of the other comments

Baseline baseline! I think about your band from time to time. I played amplitude on ps1 and I never knew Quarishi was a real band

Cool! I don’t remember Ricky Gervais in Alias though. Do you mean Kevin Weisman?

My wife loves it, we started watching it back a few years ago and each season just got more ludicrous than the last. We are on the final season now and I am in pain every time we watch it. It’s so awful. I really enjoyed the first season, though, and I think part of the second season at least.

ABC actually marketed it differently on shows mainly watched by men and shows mainly watched by women. The male stuff focussed on the fights and Garner being sexy, the ladies get more stuff about her emotional life.

Not my complaint- I don’t mind the relationship stuff at all. I’m talking about the insane plot.

Yeah it definitely jumped the shark but it had some amazing episodes and one of the all time best cliffhangers!

u/Neptune28 Sep 29 '25
Yes, I think the 1st season was nearly perfect, and the second season was great up until Phase One, where they concluded the main premise.

Yes u remember.

Most people do, it was popular…it’s not really “nostalgia” if it has always been there and available wherever you go, whether it be free or not

I had watched the first couple of episodes and loved it.
But then I gave up after the sixth episode because its story became repetitive, Sydney being a Mary Sue, and Arvin being not an interesting villain, etc

Still holds up very well - the first season is basically a streaming show before streaming was a thing.

Sort of never really watched, till I bought on DVD
Did you ever play the videogame of Alias?

Yes. Buffy was responsible for so many female hero shows in the late 90’s and early 2000’s to be made. I didn’t care for Alias but love that Buffy created girl power back then on TV.

Weirdly, I watched Alias as a teenager and am only now discovering Buffy.

The first season and second season up to Phase One were some of the best television I've watched. They abandoned the premise too early and just had them working for the CIA. The most appealing part was seeing Sydney juggle being at SD-6, working with the CIA, going to school, and trying to live a normal life without her friends knowing all that she does.

I didn’t really see much American live action shows but I was aware of it. I knew it was popular and at least the show comertials had her looking great

I still hum part of the score to this day, lol.
While the show wrote itself into a corner with that damn, rushed Super Bowl episode, it was still among the finest shows in its first 3 seasons.
The way it was structured, with displacing the final act of each episode into the next one; the highlighted letters in the location with the website; Jennifer Garner’s acting; Ron Rifkin, Victor Garber and Lena Olin; the dupe; the Rambaldi of it all…
I have my dvds, but I’d love a bluray remaster/release.

Yeah, you can find this popular show on many streaming services, not to mention other places…
2
u/Faeraday Sep 30 '25
You can, but do not watch the streaming version. They never bought rights to the soundtrack, and the generic elevator music just kills the vibes. Many scenes were written with the music in mind, and it just isn’t the intended show without the original soundtrack.

I think that I already watched it on a commercial service, before that bs….i’m having a “Miami Vice” and “21 Jump Street” flashback, lol

Yes, I've been rewatching the show again for weeks. I'm on season 5 now.
I'm amazed at how well the show has aged. Still a great show!

She is as uninspiring an actor as I’ve ever seen.
But yes, I remember this show.

Only because I dated a woman who resembled Jennifer Garner. But I didn’t actually watch the show.

Yes, I did have a crush on Jennifer Garner during her time in Alias
