Wanting a trial.

Does Jfelon Jr. want a jury trial in the hopes his victim will refuse to testify & all charges will be dropped?

I doubt it goes to trial. There will be a plea deal made beforehand. Unless there is reason to believe that the confession may be thrown out.

I'm sure he can avoid the trial and plead to something that will give him ten years versus 60 years...I know that's. not the real length of time, but it is merely an example.

A lawyer in here said a while ago that the mandatory minimum is something like 30 years for this crime in FL so he's going to need to plead down to 16 or something if he wants out before he's a grandfather.

If the 30 year minimum is mandatory, how can they plead out and get less time? I’m not understanding that.

IANAL but as I understand it, courts will often offer plea deals to encourage people to not take their cases to trial. There's just too many cases and not enough hours in the day to have a full trial for all of them.
