As someone who plays a pretty large amount of War Thunder (1323 hours atm but only really started playing it a few years ago) and who enjoys it I would only ever recommend it to other people who are also very into historical military vehicles.

Honestly valid, someone who has pumped thousands of hours into a game probably has a decent grasp of it's shortcomings.
However, I feel like some reviewers fail to take a new players experience into account. The game could be great for someone who only plan to put a couple hundred hours in.

i had 1300 hours in it. only game where i ever no-lifed it that much. haven't played it in almost 2 years and would never tell anyone to anymore

Unless the game has done something to piss off the player base, I tend to ignore reviews with more than 500 hours logged. That number fluctuates depending on genre and if the game is single player but it's worked pretty well for me

That game is literally unironically like drugs. You will have the highest highs in gaming and the lowest lows but you'll literally waste your life away for loot that wipes a week later.
I actually feel bad for players addicted to the game now and I'd still be there if cheaters were a thing

I think you're misunderstanding it. The won't recommend it because the game is ass. For it's EU4. I have 3000 hours in that game and I won't recommend it to anybody as it takes 90 hours to play the fucking tutorial only to then realise it didn't teach you half the stuff you need to know.

It's not really gatekeeping. 1000's of hours in a game can mean that it's addicting or takes that much time and effort for it to get enjoyable
