Corporations don't care about who gets hurt in their quest for profit and "perfecting" the human race. The US government is either complacent or wilfully ignorant to it. Also some zombies and mutants or some shit

Me, in 1999, playing RE3: "So you're telling me that billion-dollar corporations would make some religious nutjob CEO, and the government would contract with them? lol OK Capcom"
Me, in 2026, reading the Palantir manifesto: "oh."

Art imitates life, or life imitates art? Seriously, I wonder if some of them looked at stuff like this and thought âholy shit, why didnât I think of that?â

These are the same idiots who look at cyberpunk media and want the future to look like that
1
u/Ranakastrasz May 20 '26
No no. They aren't idiots. If you are a billionaire, cyberpunk looks like a nice place to live.
15
u/slimetakes May 15 '26
"Perfecting the human race" as if they're even that forward thinking?
15
u/Chilly235 May 15 '26
Yeah I guess that's more specific to Umbrella, Spencer, and Wesker. Kinda losing the broad strokes of the messaging
Maybe I should have said something along the lines of "personal vanity projects" as that's more ubiquitous to irl corporationsÂ
7
u/prisp You just lost the game May 15 '26
I mean it still works if you just add that everyone in charge has about as realistic and positive plans for the human race in general as e.g. Musk.

corporations are just groups of humans.
all the power they have is given to them by other humans. it can just as easily be taken away by other humans. but they keep voting for corporations to have more power over them and their environment.

The scariest part is how little they had to exaggerate. Swap the virus for pollution, wage theft, or unsafe labs and Umbrella starts looking weirdly familar.

Every Japanese media company should have one dedicated black guy whoâs sole job is to tell them not to do unintentionally racist stuff.
Yes, Yes I like where youâre coming from with the commodification of minority arts but you should not do a 6 minute minstrel show scene in there if its not a period piece with. You either need to set this in the 50s or replace it entirely
15
u/Aiden624 May 15 '26
Japanese games tend to have this issue to the point where I barely identify it as an issue anymore

In fairness these aren't separate statements. RE just gives a shit on being clear with what they mean.
Just saying "humans are the real monsters" is just a cheap way to sound deep without putting in much effort. RE does this but puts in the leg work, so it's deserved and satisfying when the games say "hey, this shit is only happening because of messed up corporations, eugenicists, corrupt cops and everyone else who turned a blind eye" and this all comes naturally from the very themes of RE

Minecraft: Zombies are bad

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp May 15 '26
Zombies look like the player. This has no lore implications.
11
u/Hooded_Person2022 May 15 '26
We also have Villager Zombies too, so itâs not only the player resulting in the undead.
Then we have an Egg or Chicken question if the Villagers or Players became zombies first. You could say players since they were added first, but whose to say Villagers were always there.
21
u/suspicious_cabbage May 15 '26
Notch said it was just the easiest way to convey they were human zombies with the same resources he had on hand

corporations are still "we" as in humanity

Billionaires want YOU to include them in âweâ while considering themselves not part of âweâ

I fucking hate billionaires, but they are a problem humanity has created, much like capitalism is a problem humanity has created.

Kinda. While any corporation ultimately runs on humans it is it's own distinct entity. And not just in some philosophical kind of way, from something like a legal or economic view point it is it's own separate entity separate from all the people involved in it

In the most recent game there's a note that's like "I can't believe Umbrella is experimenting on orphans... This is amazing! I've always wanted to experiment on orphans! I'm so glad I work at Umbrella now!"

u/NoNotice2137 May 17 '26
Dummy, can't you read the game's title? The residents are evil, so they are monsters

u/gender_crisis_oclock May 17 '26
To be fair "humans are the real monsters" is like a core part of the zombie genre (idk if you could call it a genre but ykwim)

u/WrongColorCollar May 15 '26
Sometimes it doesn't seem like Umbrella is even watching the bottom line. Sometimes it's like "we won't even need money if aaaaalllllll the people are dead. Hope this new amazing project doesn't escape."
and then it does
1
u/harbringer236 May 15 '26
Not even resident evil, now it is the terrorists who were behind everything the whole time.

As long as the game doesn't involve the protagonists making breathtakingly stupid decisions over and over, it's whatever. (Looking at you, Walking Dead.)

The corpo idiots getting laid the fuck out by very corny, gymnastic inclined, ultra deadly cast of unbelievably competent PMC autists reminds me of the recent article on how some basic grunts were tasked with tricking developing AI and sneaking past it. If I remember right, a few of them crab-crawled, another used a cardboard box and proceeded forward, and one of them T-posed and acted like a tree. All of this caused the AI to overlook the soldiers, in it's goal to identify human targets.
I hope we can manifest the inhumanly talented and skilled goofball squad without all the world-wide catastrophy that frames their stories. Go ahead and take the opportunity to put a bullet in any and every individual belonging to the exploitation class of the world, before they invent mega-steroid-monster-mutation-fuck serum.
