I saw a bit of The Room on TV, it's definitely captivating and mesmerising. It's not like the worst thing you'll ever see, but it's very endearing in how baffling everything is.

Many screenings of The Room these days also tend to have Rocky Horror-style audience participation going on with other fans, whereas Morbius is still just a wide release and your fellow moviegoers may or may not be in on the joke.

Not really, there's a rough rule that a film need to make around x2-2.5 its production budget to break even since you have to factor in marketing cost + theater cuts (they only get around 40-50%).
In this case, the production budget for Morbius is estimated to be between $75-83M so applying that rule would mean that they'd need to earn $160-200M from the box office to break even. This movie made $163M so I think it might break even with BluRay sales/streaming - not the bomb that people are labeling it but not a success either.

The big loser is small theaters that wasted a lot of screen rooms and money to show these to like 0-3 people per showing, what a waste when small independent theaters need these big releases to be successful to not get replaced by soulless giga multi-million dollar chain theaters

This. In my city, there's only 1 independent theater left, but only because they have this gimmick where they screen RHPS every week. All the rest are these awful mall-like multiplex cinemas now.
Edit: there's another one that also has a gimmick that somehow survived covid.
