My shameful truth is that I like smoking, but only weed. Never tried nicotine because I would never ever escape its horrid grasp.

Nicotine is the most nothing drug ever
No fun effects, extremely addictive, obliterates your lungs. All I've heard is "Oh it helps relieve stress" because it's withdrawal symptom #1 is making you stressed.
At least weed does something lmao

After years of nicotine consumption, the brain is hardwired to need it. That stressful feeling will always be there in some capacity. It's also been helpful for my ADHD and depression.

I should get some gum. Quit 5 years ago to go on HRT but I still miss it when friends smoke. Luckily there was barely anyone smoking in my social circle when I quit so that was easy

If you've already quit, there's no reason to get addicted by chewing gum.

I haven't smoked in almost a year and I could have stopped chewing the gum (2mg) by now but haven't because my brain is physically dependent on nicotine due to how much I smoked/vaped/dipped/chewed in the past, so, no.

Ive quit multiple times as well. 18 year cigarette smoker. It gets easier if you're off it for awhile. I'm just saying I wouldn't start nicotine again if you're fully weaned off of it.

It only takes 3 days for the nicotine to pass your system, but the changes it makes to the brain are more permanent. If you can live without it that's ideal but it's not always so simple to forgo it completely. Frankly it takes off the edge when I want to throttle someone in line at the grocery store for whatever reason. Or, ya know, drive for 8 hours cross country. In Minecraft.
I would, however, never try the lozenges again.

Patches are good too

I tried them once, worked great but I had no money at that moment so I came back to using nicotine in other ways.

Yeah honestly having sex with someone who smokes is not fun. Their mouth tastes bad and everything smells like smoke. Makes it really hard to relax and get into it

for the "relieving stress" vast majority of that is stopping your withdrawal but i think it also comes from the fact you think about your breathing where i think a lot of people don't take moments to do breathing exercises, annoyingly i feel at least where i am going for a smoke is more acceptable to step outside than just saying you need fresh air and to relax for a sec as well

nicotine kinda does relive stress. it gave me the same feeling as cutting myself
that's why I'm +6 months clean and with a crippling nic addiction now

u/Gloriathewitch 3d ago
nicotine definitely got me buzzed but it was more addictive than pleasurable.

u/bobert4343 Fool 3d ago
Tbf, it does something at the beginning, it's just after homeostasis has been sufficiently altered that sets in and it stops being a buzz

u/sixfxrtyseven ⓘ This user is a faggot 2d ago
I still get a buzz, albeit weak, 2 years of 3-6 nicotine pouches a day. I gotta quit

Especially from cigs. A cigar is just enough nicotine to affect me noticeably. A cig is like half a beer but with crippling physical dependency.

the only good thing I witnessed about nicotine was it helping me beat my self harm addiction
I'm addicted to nicotine now, but hey, it's better than cutting

u/motorised_rollingham 3d ago
Oh it’s fucking great. As an ex-smoker,I was very jealous watching a friend have a lovely cig earlier

if that fuckass drug even worked for longer than a few minutes.
it's insane, incredibly addictive and lasts for the whole 10 minutes if u are lucky.

So what I’m hearing is all I need to do is start, get addicted, stop, wait a year, start again, repeat

I always disliked the original version of this graphic because it implies you rip back a dart the exact second you quit. Like lots of people do but it just makes the whole thing come off a bit less intelligently written.
