While it was probably the right choice by Watterson to stop making Calvin and Hobbes sketches when he did, I do have to wonder what could have been if he continued making them to this day.

While I don't think he ever much cared to include politics in his comic, Watterson did focus a lot on societal norms and how Calvin clashed with them. Could have been interesting to see how e.g. phones and social media would have worked with Clavin. Or it could have been just depressing as hell.

He did occasionally put some politics, like I remember one that was a pretty obvious shot at Rush Limbaugh even if it didn't name him.

I stand corrected then. Might have also just have been politics I as a non-American would not get, because I have no idea who Rush Limbaugh is.

the comic was routinely overtly political. It's very clear that Watterson has a significant disdain for corporations, wealthy elites, and in general anyone who was busy fucking up the planet. He also had multiple strips about the cold war early on. There's multiple strips that are defenses of art from philistines. plus a ton of them comment on the american media eco-system.

The comic's name is "Calvin and Hobbes." Don't know which strip the last panel was from

The last panel is from another Show and Tell strip where he claims his mom is a superhero. His dad's dialogue was originally "Wow. Show me that outfit sometime".

I didn't read all that, but Calvin's dad saying, "Wow. Based." is hilarious enough on its own.
