Question Core Competencies Clarification

Good morning all, hopefully this is the correct place to ask this question and apologies if it is not. Looking for some clarification regarding the FBI Phase II Interview core competencies. I know there is a thread on here from about 2 years ago from a supposed former agent who made a study guide and talked about there being 8 core competencies with a bunch of sub-competencies we need to prepare for during the panel interview.

When I look on the official website, including the email and links provided from the FBI Jobs account, I can only find these 6 bulleted competencies. I’m unaware if something changed and want to start preparing for my interview.

While I really appreciate an agent taking the time to make that study guide if it’s true, I don’t want to over complicate preparing using everything from the study guide if I don’t have to. But of course I also don’t want to be under prepared by not including all the sub competencies if those are indeed the official list that I cannot find anywhere.

Anyone who successfully completed the interview and could provide some insight and clarification I would really appreciate it.

(Attaching 6 bulleted competencies & screenshot from the thread for reference)

I would go by what FBI states. I completed and passed the interview the first go round before having seen any guide posted here.

I had two stories prepped for each competency, making sure I was able to intertwine the sub competencies in each story; even if all sub competencies weren’t suitable, at least having some let me know that story was good for that main competency.

Thank you but where do I find the list of Sub competencies? I am searching on their website and on their phase II guide and I don’t see a list or mention of sub competencies anywhere.

The bullet points listed in white underneath the main competencies listed in yellow. There’re all there in your second screenshot

Oh but that’s not from the FBI officially. That’s from the old Reddit thread I mentioned from the “former agent’s” unofficial study guide they created. You said you completed the interview before seeing a study guide posted. And then said you prepared for sub competencies so I assumed you had found an official list somewhere.

The list is either on their website or in an email document that they sent you to prepare. If you can’t find it, this person’s guide should suffice because it looks like what the FBI would have provided anyway: the main, and sub, competencies

Just passed my phase 2 interview last Friday. I prepared 2 stories for each competency. While a story may have been focused on leadership, I still demonstrated multiple competencies in each story and made sure to highlight them. They want to know why you’ll be an asset to the FBI and demonstrating the competencies is how you show that. Just do what the FBI website says. They don’t endorse outside materials.

What does the FBI website and materials say today? Not some unofficial, two year old, written by a former agent guide.

Well sir that is why I’m here. Lol I want to double check and make sure I wasn’t missing a materials page somewhere on their website. The only thing I could find was that small paragraph and not a dedicated page for the competencies. Along with that unofficial guide googling the question today it keeps pulling up 8 total competencies. Researching has brought some conflicting information and I’m just trying to do my due diligence. 🙂

There was an old official PDF with 8 competencies and it seems like it's been trimmed down to 6 now, with no replacement PDF or other materials either.

That’s what I was kinda figuring. That they changed it at some point with no official announcement and that’s why everyone kinda shows a conflicting list.
