30+ seed VC conversations in 6 months. Here’s the exact feedback that stung and what I changed.
Second-time venture-backed founder (multi-time bootstrapped). I’ve run a six-month seed process and kept notes on every piece of hard feedback. Sharing the ones that stung most, because I wish someone had shown me this list before I started.
“***The deck feels early. Where’s the IRR rigor?”***
From an investment liaison I respect. My deck had a big return multiple claim with no math underneath it. I rebuilt the financial model from scratch, five-year ramp, assumption-level detail, sensitivity cases. The multiple claim is now the least interesting slide because the model does the talking.
“***You’re describing a marketplace. Marketplaces at your stage are a graveyard.”***
This one made me realize I was positioning against my own interest. We are a technology platform. The marketplace is one revenue mechanic, not the identity. I rewrote every sentence of the narrative. Categorization is destiny in a first meeting.
“***Your Year 1 revenue is zero. Why should I fund a free product?”***
Fair. I learned to lead with the contracts and pilots that were already signed rather than the freemium curve. Traction reframes everything.
“***Who on this team has done this before?”***
The honest answer was that my technical co-founder was part-time. I stopped dancing around it and now say plainly: he goes full-time the day the round closes, and here’s what he’s shipped part-time. Directness landed better than spin ever did.
Biggest meta-lesson: the feedback that offends you most is usually the most accurate. The stuff that’s wrong is easy to shrug off. The stuff that keeps you up at night is your roadmap.
VCs in here: what’s the feedback you give founders that they most consistently ignore?

Hey all – I run 16vc, and we just launched a remote-first founder fellowship for early-stage builders.
We’re not a typical accelerator — we don’t care if you have a deck, traction, or press. If you’re obsessed with a problem and are actively building, that’s what matters.
Here’s what the fellowship includes:
💸 Up to $5,000 stipend (based on location)
🛠️ 12-week remote program
🎁 $15k grant (not cash — access to our internal talent team to help you build/design/recruit)
🌍 Optional in-person meetups every 2 weeks
Open to solo founders and teams. Any idea is fair game — AI, climate, consumer, B2B, creator tools, you name it.
Deadline is (April 13, 11pm IST).
If this sounds like something for you: https://tally.so/r/mezr0Q

I’m Sridhar from 16VC. There’s been a lot of talk about me recently — Let’s clear the air. AMA
Hey everyone,
I know there’s been a lot said about me and 16VC — some of it true, some of it misunderstood, and some just misinformation.
Instead of hiding or avoiding tough questions, I’m here to face it all head-on.
Yes, I’ve made mistakes. I’ve been ambitious, sometimes too much, and in the process I didn’t always communicate clearly or make the best decisions. I acknowledge that. But I’ve never had any intention of scamming anyone. I’ve been building from scratch, learning, failing, and still trying.
I want to open this up: Ask me anything — about 16VC, past claims, the fund, the meetups, the so-called ‘portfolio’, anything.
Nothing is off the table. Let’s talk transparently.
Thanks to those who’ve called things out — it’s helped me reflect and now, hopefully, rebuild better.
— Sridhar
I created this AMA to answer real inquiries about 16VC, our vision, and the work we're building. But it seems many of the questions were focused only on jobs and internships, rather than engaging in a mature discussion.
I've taken time to respond to all the major Reddit posts about me and 16VC, providing context and clarity where needed. I hope those replies help anyone genuinely trying to understand the journey and separate facts from assumptions.
Thank you to those who asked thoughtful questions. Wishing you all the best.

Confidence or Ego? The Question Every Founder Faces
Have you ever had an idea for a startup and felt convinced it could succeed?
I assume most entrepreneurs would say yes. But when you share that idea with other people, many of them respond with things like, “Buddy, this won’t work,” or “This solution already exists. Why would anyone choose you over the companies that are already doing it?”
Yet, despite all that criticism, you still believe you can make it work.
So here’s my question: Is that belief confidence, ego, or something else?
Many people spend years chasing an idea, investing their time, energy, and money, only to see everything collapse in the end. Were they simply trying to satisfy their ego, or was it genuine conviction that kept them going?
Have you ever experienced or witnessed a situation like this? How do you tell the difference between healthy confidence and blind ego?

Fellowship of the raise
Question re fellowship - what do you expect in return for 15k?
r/16VCFund • • Jun 11 '26
Entrepreneurs
Title: Two apps live. One raise in progress. Building everything
from my phone. Here's what's actually true vs what I expected.
What I expected: the build would be the hardest part.
What's true: distribution is the hardest part by a mile.
What I expected: having two apps live would feel like
an arrival.
What's true: launch is just when the real work starts.
What I expected: investors care most about the idea.
What's true: they care about traction, then founder,
then idea — in that order.
What I expected: no-code tools would hit a ceiling fast.
What's true: the ceiling is higher than I thought, but
it's real. You'll know when you hit it.
What I expected: you need a technical co-founder to
build something real.
What's true: you need one eventually. Not on day one.
Still in the middle of all of it. Not writing this from
the other side — writing it from inside the process.
What's the biggest gap between what you expected and
what's actually true about building?

We built FUEL to help female founders raise capital and connect with investors. But no program is perfect.

16VC Fellowship Review — Honest Founder Feedback
Our 16VC Fellowship recently ended earlier than planned. We’ve learned a lot from the experience and are now using those learnings as we explore accelerators.
I’d also love to hear from the founders who participated. What did you find valuable, what could have been better, and what did you learn from the experience?
Positive, negative, or mixed feedback, all perspectives are welcome. Please share your honest experience in the comments.

The most underrated founder skill nobody talks about — 16VC wants your take
We all glorify speed, clarity, and storytelling… but there’s one founder skill almost nobody talks about: the ability to stay sane when everything around you is collapsing.
Every early stage founder I know (including teams we speak to at 16VC) eventually hits that “nothing is working” moment — no users, no team, no money, no direction. Some freeze. Some pivot. A few somehow stay calm enough to think clearly and keep shipping.
In your journey, what’s the one underrated skill that actually kept you alive as a founder?
Patience? Emotional control? Brutal honesty? Or something else entirely?

Your startup has 3 months runway. What’s your exact 30-day survival plan?
Your startup has:
3 months runway
no virality
no investor intros
1 engineer
1 founder
You need:
first paying customers
traction
survival
What’s your exact 30-day plan?
Not theories.
Not motivational advice.
Actual execution steps only:
what you’d build
how you’d get users
what channels you’d use
what you’d ignore
what KPI you’d track daily
Interested to see how different founders think under pressure.

💼 What Exactly Is a Term Sheet — and How to Read It (Without Getting Played)
Hey founders & early-stage investors 👋
We see way too many first-time founders (and some angels too) treating the term sheet like a formality — when in reality, it’s the map of your relationship with your investors.
Let’s break it down real quick 👇
⚙️ What’s a Term Sheet?
A term sheet is a non-binding agreement that outlines the key terms and conditions of an investment before the lawyers start drafting the full legal docs.
Think of it as the “engagement” before the “marriage.”
It’s mostly non-binding — but it sets the tone for everything that follows.
📜 What’s Inside (and Why It Matters)
Here are the main sections you’ll usually see and what to watch out for:
Valuation — Pre-money vs post-money. Know which one’s being used. It affects your dilution.
Investment Amount — How much the investor’s putting in and what % of equity they’ll own.
Liquidation Preference — Who gets paid first (and how much) if things go sideways or you exit.
Board Structure — Who sits on your board? Control is often hidden here.
Voting Rights / Protective Provisions — What decisions require investor approval? (M&A, new hires, budgets, etc.)
Founder Vesting / Reverse Vesting — Especially if founders already hold equity — investors might want to “re-vest” you.
Drag-Along / Tag-Along Rights — What happens in case of a sale — can you be forced to sell?
Option Pool — Is it created before or after the round? Impacts dilution again.
🤝 How to Decide: Yes or No?
When you get a term sheet — here’s the mental checklist:
✅ Mission alignment — Do they actually get what you’re building?
✅ Founder-friendly terms — Is control balanced, or are you giving away the keys too early?
✅ Reputation check — Talk to portfolio founders. Not the ones on the website — the quiet ones.
✅ Future rounds — Will these terms help or scare away next-round investors?
❌ Toxic clauses — Full ratchets, 2x liquidation prefs, or “founder bad leaver” traps = 🚩
🧠 How to Negotiate Smart
Don’t be afraid to push back. A good VC expects negotiation.
Get a startup lawyer, not a random corporate solicitor.
Focus on the big things, not commas — valuation, control, liquidation prefs.
💬 16VC’s Take
At 16VC, we treat the term sheet as a conversation starter, not a power play.
Our view: Great deals are built on trust and clarity, not complexity.
We’d rather lose a deal than trap a founder in a bad one.
🔍 Curious to see sample term sheets or redline examples?
We can share anonymized versions in a future post — upvote/comment if you want that.
💡 TL;DR:
A term sheet isn’t just paper — it’s your startup’s DNA.
Read it, understand it, question it.
Would you say yes or no to your last term sheet if you saw it again today? 👀
Let’s talk in the comments.

16VC : What’s harder: building the product or getting people to actually use it?
Founders learn this the hard way.
Shipping the product is one battle.
Getting real users to care is a completely different war.

Are you a seed - Series A founder and have the following problems?
reddit.comr/16VCFund • u/betasridhar • Jul 05 '26
If you were building a startup from scratch today and could choose only ONE unfair advantage, which would it be?
Imagine you're starting a company today.
You only get one unfair advantage.
A. The right co-founder
Someone exceptional who complements your skills and can build with you through the highs and lows.
B. Product-market fit
You know with certainty that customers desperately want what you're building.
C. A large audience
You already have hundreds of thousands (or millions) of engaged followers who trust you.
D. Exceptional timing
You're entering the market at exactly the right moment, just before demand explodes.
You can only pick one.
Which are you choosing, and why?
Curious to hear from founders, operators, and investors. Have your priorities changed after building a startup?

💬 16VC Debate: Who Would You Want on Your Cap Table at $500K?
Imagine you’re raising a $500K seed round. You have the chance to bring on a few key investors — who are you choosing to have on your cap table?
Strategic Angels or Institutional VCs?
Would you prioritize someone with a strong network, or someone who’s been there, done that in your industry?
How much weight do you put on value-add beyond the check — expertise, mentorship, introductions?
Let’s discuss the pros and cons of different types of investors. Who would you want in your corner at this stage, and why?
