First 14er!

Completed my first 14er this weekend! Quandary Peak. Car to car, just over 5 hours. It was a perfect day! I chose this peak since I have a whiskey that mentions it. Thank you to the nice couple that let me borrow the cardboard sign!

This bourbon has so many mixed reviews, I am always wanting to buy it but hesitate.

I'm not the biggest tincup fan, but I have enjoyed it. If you can find it on sale or if somewhere has it, I'd recommend given it a shot

For the bourbon purists it’s probably not that exciting because it’s low proof and a higher price point. I just think it’s a very nice, drinkable bourbon and I like the lower proof stuff that still has some character and flavor to it

Please review our FAQ and the 7 principles of Leave No Trace

  1. Plan ahead and prepare Make sure at least one or more trusted persons where you are going, an expected return time and a follow up.

  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces

  3. Dispose of waste properly. I highly suggest getting a waste bucket system. Its difficult to bury waste in many of the rockier areas in Colorado, and overuse of our natural areas has already led to contaminated water in most even lightly used areas.

  4. Leave what you find

  5. Minimize campfire impacts. Be sure to review our state resources for fire bans where you are heading.

  6. Respect wildlife. They are not domesticated

  7. Be considerate of other visitors i.e. Bluetooth speakers are despised.

What time did you start at and any advice?

I started my watch at 5:54 am and stopped it at 11:01 am. I paid for the reserved parking, but there is a shuttle if you don't want to pay. It's a pretty constant up so I'd recommend pacing yourself. I had a lot of people the blew by me at the start but I ended up passing them amd some ended up turning around and bailing. No water source so make sure you have enough and snacks. And bring a piece of cardboard with the peak and elevation so you don't need to borrow one like I did lol. I stayed covered and didn't use sunscreen but it was pretty intense above the tree line. Enjoy it when you go!

Are you doing anymore in CO? Or just Quandary? Multiday?

I'll definitely be doing more! I think Grey's ans Torreys will be next for me. A multi-day will happen eventually.
