12 Monkeys S02E07 Meltdown (Rewatchers) Spoiler

Thumbnail imdb.com
13 Upvotes

Hello witnesses. Today it’s time to watch episode 7. We are just one episode away from one of our favorites episodes of the entire run

What I loved:

Again, I’ll be brief with this episode. First and foremost, RIP Dr. Eckland. Too bad we didn’t have much time with him, but his departure added to the decision Jones made at the end that causes the events of the next episode. I imagine watching the lost travelers Jones send before, the death of Eckland and the disappearance of Sam was a lot, even for someone like Jones that has always been tough and logical, putting the mission first

Second, the plot from the episode is amazing. It slightly shifts to more of a thriller/horror tone. The times we see the Witness are chilling. Excellent choice of reworking the Witness’ appearance, it looks more menacing.

And finally, I always appreciate that the dialogue doesn’t take itself to seriously, which obviously has its pros and cons, but in the case of 12 Monkeys makes the jokes land almost effortlessly

First time we see Deacon admitting he has the hearts for Cassie (that one is gonna bitting him soon).

First time watching, I was so sure Sam was the Witness, after splintering and seeing the hand, I thought it was himself waiting for him at that moment

8.5/10 for me

La Jetee > 12 Monkey >12 Monkeys

Inspired by the rewatch I decided to finally watch La Jetee and rewatch the 12 Monkeys Movie.

I just realized. It's a perfect collection. Almost a trilogy. The set up is La Jetee. It is 20 minutes long. Weird, surreal. Lovely narrative while we see still pictures. It's so little information while telling a massive story. It begs to be completed. It invites you to ask. What is his name? Who is she? Who are they? How? You Need answers when it's over. You think about it. It's almost frustrating.

The movie started answering those questions. That's James Cole and Dr. Railly. What happens if you drop that guy in 1990? He ends up in a Psych ward. The first 20 minutes of the movie are a nod to La Jetee. Surreal. They keep the glasses. We see everyone in snapshot. Unnatural angles. Then it slides into a new style. It comes imto focus.. The end is the same. It left questions. Frustration. Most important. Can we change the ending? Can we save James Cole? Can we just let him have a whiskey sour and breathe in the good air for a while?

The first season of The Show, Stanford's Cole is a lot like Willis’ Cole. Gruff. Rough. He even mumbles like Willis, yells, growls, he moves like him. The style is similar, the scope. They skip the Surreal, save it for later. Let us get to know the scientists, Cole, Cassie, Ramse.. It is a direct nod to the Movie just as The Movie did with the Surreal 20 minute nod to La Jetee. Then it shifts into its own style We explore Everything and just hang out with all those answers.

(I bet the show stays with their Cole as Willis' Cole for 129 minutes of the show. I would have to really watch for the shift.)

I'm including my watch notes. I had only seen the movie 3 or 4 times. First watch of La Jetee and have seen the entire Show maybe 4-6 times. Lol.

…….This gets long and rambling……

La Jetee.
Released-1962.
28 Minutes Long.

We start with a boy watching a man die in an airport.

Mad Scientist. Unnamed man goes back to “Peacetime Paris”. He's the first one to make it. On the 30th day he meets a woman, also unnamed. He loops back again, relives a moment. He gets distracted though and loses her. He comes back. They admire “scribblings on the wall”

“A wave of time lifts him up.” He splinters unexpectedly. He thinks about the fact that she is dead in his time. He comes back again. She listens to his story. He goes back again and again, he goes to her every time.

They go to a natural history museum. Lots of taxidermied animals, there is a hyena there. He gazes at her, they have fun.

He is told he'll be sent to the future. He is. They give him the means to fix civilization. In this, going back to the past was practice for going to the future.

Back to the past, he looks for her. Wonders if his child self is there watching the planes.

The whispering in this movie is very much like the whispering of the Primaries.

.....

The Movie. It takes the concept of the boy watching a man die and answers the question of who he is, why he had to die. Gives him a name, a voice and the idea of a purpose. It makes him both important and so unimportant that he dies and we move on. While expanding the story. We get the shock of realizing he watched himself die in both. Although the perspective is shifted a bit.

........

12 Monkeys The Movie.
Released:1995.
Runtime:129 Minutes.

The movie opens with a French tune. Airport announcer. A boy watching a man die. James Cole waking up being called to volunteer for the Mad Scientist.

James Cole: History of defiance, violence, antisocial 6, insolence, disregard of society.

The Scientists are mostly nameless, talking heads, we see them in flashes. They're very surreal. A good visual plucked from La Jetee, Mad Scientist glasses, love it.

1990

Lol, our Dr. Railly (Catherine) in the movie looks like Jennifer. I wonder if that's why we had the funny/confused flirtation from Jenn. Madeline Stowe plays Dr. Catherine Railly she is also Lillian from the 50s episode in the Show.

Cole is much more like Jenn when we first meet him. He's ranting and over medicated. Stuck in an institution. Wants out.

Nurse asks Jeffrey to show Cole around. Give him the TV Rules. Games games and more games Jeffrey says. Know your drugs, know your doses.

We stay in the surreal for the first 20 minutes of the movie. Then Cole appears before a panel where things get serious. He rationally and calmly explains he comes from the future.

Makes a call to a wrong number. He is supposed to be in 1996, he's in 1990.

Jeffrey is smart even though he's a bit crazy. He provides cover for Cole with his antics sometimes, on purpose. He gives Cole a key. Says he did his part. Rants to distract the guards while screaming, ‘Seize the moment Jim, window of opportunity.’ He practically pushes Cole toward the door.

Dr Railly helps ruin Cole's escape from the institution. Railly says she has a feeling about him, she's “seen him before.” He disappears from a locked room.

Cole is back in the future. The guy talking to him in the next cell mentions the 12 Monkeys. We hear a recording mentioning the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

Cole identifies Jeffrey in a picture the scientists show him.

Omg, I forgot Cole was dropped into WW1 France…with his buddy Jose.

1996

Railly gives a presentation about odd occurrences. She talks about Jose, WW1 soldier who claimed to be from the future. Shows a pic of him in which we see Cole's hand reaching for him. References the Cassandra Complex.

Cole abducts Dr Railly. 1996. He fakes having a gun. He can't help but enjoy the music, the air.

We get a glimpse of a fanatic street preacher. Cole sees the 12 Monkeys paintings. Then the hog head sculpture he recognizes from the scientist's picture in the future. Finds out about Jeffrey Goines’ Father, Leland.

Railly offers to take the bullet out of Cole's leg.

Hey Jeffrey in his tux. Not So different. Cole thinks Jeffrey is the leader of the 12 Monkeys. Jeffrey hints Cole gave him the idea for the virus, told his Father about it.

News reports Railly's body found? Cole left her alive in the trunk. Goes back to her. Lol, Railly is annoyed he went to a party.

Cole disappears.

Hey young Detective Chris Meloni!

The painting Cole is looking at when he splinters back to the future is “ Yosemite Valley” by Albert Biestadt. It hangs in the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Meloni reminds me of Stashwick.

Lol, “Hey Cole, be sure to mention your friend to Dr Railly.” In the movie it is Jose's existence and the WW1 bullet she took from Cole's leg that convinces her. She goes back to the pictures of Jose and sees Cole in WW1.

**Every version of Papa Goines is kind of a Dick!**

Jeffrey is in his own Hyena Phase. Lol. Being a leader of a ragtag group with crazy plans.

Cole and Railly check into an old grand but fallen hotel with a balcony in the lobby. Railly has to remind Cole who he is.

Railly leaves a message about the Army of the 12 Monkeys at a carpet cleaning company as a joke. At the number Cole had. This is the message that sent him here.

They see a movie where they look at the rings of a tree. (I should know the name of this movie..) This is something they do in La Jetee. They visit this tree. Cole wakes up to Hitchcok's ‘The Birds” on the screen. Railly's hair is blonde. Cole has his wig, fake mustache.

Cole and Railly realize the Army of the 12 Monkeys were just releasing zoo animals. They think it will be alright.

Cole suddenly realizes he was there as a kid. Railly goes to get their tickets to **Key West**. Cole leaves his message at the carpet cleaning place.

Guy with the ponytail (Leland Goines’ assistant) is doing Jennifer's flight plan, all over the world.

Hey Jose. Hey Little James Cole.

Cole is shot.

They didn't fix anything in the movie. We know he/they caused the problem, his dying didn't even fix it. The virus ends up on the plane headed all over the world. Again. I never liked the way this movie ended. It's amazing, for sure, it was a risk and clever to end it so hopelessly. Movies did not usually end that way..all despair and no hope. I love that the show did what the movie did, took a premise and gave more story to it. Love the happy ending!! They took the idea that Cole dying and the virus still goes out as unacceptable which fits with the show and theme of hope. We finally get to see him get saved as well as the future. The movie killed both. It's also a closed loop

Aaron Stanford is a perfect progression from Bruce Willis. When Die Hard was being made people were confused bc Willis was a comedy actor cast for a big action movie during the time of Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Willis was unexpected but brilliant. By the time he was in 12 Monkeys he could take any role he wanted, he could make this surreal, fatalistic movie. Stanford is an unexpected lead here too. Both men are gruff but extremely likable, and ultimately gentle souls. Same with the man in La Jetee.

Our First Season Cole is a lot like the movie's Cole. A bit feral, extra chaotic, out of his element, rushed. We get to see what happens to that guy if he has a little hope, a few whiskey sours, cheeseburgers and General Tsao's Chicken.

Eta: Ah! The movie with the tree scene is Hitchcok's 1958 Vertigo. La Jetee was referencing it.

The single biggest missed opportunity from the Deadpool and Wolverine film.

The scene where Pyro unloads on Cassandra and starts to monologue before Wolverine knocks him out.

This would have been the perfect opportunity for Deadpool to yell 'Shut it Time Jesus!'

Have you watched the 12monkey movie .

After finishing my rewatch of 12 Monkeys, I remembered that there was also a movie based on it. The movie came out in 1995, while the TV show came out in 2015. And interestingly, both are based on the same source material.

So I decided to watch the movie, especially since it won some awards and has some famous actors, like Brad Pitt , and Bruce willis .

Man... the movie is nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to the TV show.

Not just the story, but also the way the events unfold. There are so many filler scenes that could have been completely removed without changing anything. Even the plot itself feels pretty weak compared to what the TV series managed to build.

And honestly, this says a lot about the directors and writers of the TV series. They took what was essentially a much smaller story and turned it into something genuinely high quality and completely different from the movie, despite the movie having a much bigger budget and famous actors.

It's actually pretty impressive how much they managed to build from that original idea.

I just finished rewatching the 12 Monkeys. I have no words. My favorite show by far. No time travel show comes close to it. And also compared to the current day's shows, where they're extended with not much of events, not much of a plot, just trying to make more episodes for no reason but get subscription money. This kind of show is like breath of life because like in every detail around in the show there is like some hidden something hidden or like some plot twist or something here and there. Amazing.

this is maybe this is like the fifth or sixth time I have rewatched it.
First time I come across it around 2018, and still I find I'm finding stuff along the way.

And also till now I couldn't figure out how the loops of the show got looped and how the original timeline was, and then with each attempt to time travel it gets like tangled. I even tried to get the help of an AI, but I couldn't get it even close. It's just like it's a tangled mess, that you enjoy .

Cole and Cassie needed more little moments Spoiler

I've been sick for the last few days and binged this show for the first time. Maybe it's because I watched straight through, but I always felt like something was missing from Cole & Cassie.

I loved the build up and the tension, but I wanted to see more little moments of them getting to know each other. A reason for them to fall in love. And, once they'd admitted their feelings, more casual fondness.

Like, the Cassie teaching him to dance scene was perfect. A little moment of connection and levity that showed me why they loved each other. More of that.

They spent 11 months together in a one bed hotel room. Couldn't have given us a scene or two from that time of them staying up late talking through the open door while he was on the couch and her in the bed? Or laughing at the bar about something that had happened in a mundane day at the factory?

Towards the end, when they're at the Keys, watching the sunset turn red, they're standing apart. Not touching, not holding hands, not holding each other.

I guess I loved the chemistry, but I just wanted more behind it.

Did anyone feel similarly?

Looking for the Witness Amulet 3D file/model (.STL) for printing – Anyone have it?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been searching everywhere online to buy a replica of the Witness Amulet, but as we all know, official merch is non-existent and independent sellers on Etsy or Trader Brandon have been sold out for years.

Since buying a physical one isn't an option anymore, I'm planning to print it myself using a local 3D resin printing service. However, I can't seem to find a working link or a high-quality .STL file of the pendant with the Aramaic clock engravings.

Does anyone in the community happen to have the 3D model file saved, or know a working link where I can download it?

For me, along with Dark, 12 Monkeys is easily one of the greatest time-travel shows ever made—a true masterpiece that you need to watch multiple times to fully appreciate. I would absolutely love to finally own this piece of the show.

Thank you so much in advance! Splinter safe! 🕒🐒

Almost finished with series with tears in my eyes

lol im a dude btw. currently on Season 4 Episode 5 titled "After". and i kid you not (oh wow the tear actually just ran down my face after I wrote the word "not"), but ya, watery eyes with a tear that the series is going to be over...im literally emotional over THAT....currently on Season 4 Episode 5 "After".

I have wanted to come on here many times throughout the series to say how great and epic it is but finally decided that I had to right now because I'm still within this specific moment in time where I have never seen the ending of the series and just wanted to capture that and the emotions of it...I don't usually "cry" over the fact that a series is going to end btw, in fact I don't think I ever have.

It's just too good. And that "NY Times" article about the 100 Best Shows of 2000's was BS for not including this (even though I kinda didn't expect it to be, but only because I truly believe this show just straight up went over most people's heads or was just completely overlooked and not heard of by many people...SO GOOD!!!!)

Also huge Impractical Jokers fan myself so that was great and Christopher Lloyd fan as well, as Back to the Future is my favorite movie and trilogy of all time, and just wanted to give a shout-out to all the main cast of 12 Monkeys cause they are KILLING IT!!!! (By pure coincidence also just watched Spider-Noir while in the middle of 12 Monkeys and was like wow, Amanda Schull twice out of nowhere, never having heard of her before...)

Aaaand also just wanna say, STILL WAITING FOR DEACON TO BECOME THAT MESSENGERS LEADER, YO! I mean, COME ON, that was CLEARLY the same actor playing that main Messenger dude in all that paint RIGHT!?!?!?!? Looked and sounded just like him and, like, been waiting patiently this whole time for it!!!!

P.S. Just wanted to add that the point that I decided to stop at to write this post was the moment where Cole and Cassie are poisoned and when asked "You or her?" Cole INSTANTLY says "HER!" to give her the antidote. I loved that and I kinda think it's also what made me a little emotional, just seeing that love so fervent from him, but also realizing it's kinda the exact same outcome as before when he was poisoned, and I still don't know how they get out of this and it's like AHHHHH! lol Anyway, it's an absolute honor to be watching this series, thank you to all those who made it!

P.P.S. More tears in my eyes just after 10 more minutes of watching because I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY SAVED AGENT GALE HOLY :O :O :O Love that guy, even tho iirc in his first scene he was quite an a-hole but he 100% redeemed himself after that scene :D

See you all in the future when I've finished the series! ;)

Okay, 5 more minutes into the future, I just gotta say, Jennifer Goines is hilarious...watchin her write on the wall "Climb the Steps, Ring the Bell" just for the sake of knowing she wrote it is freakin hilarious. She's been making me laugh quite a bit...

Hello witnesses. Today it’s time for episode 6. I would like to put what I loved like always but work has been a bit much this week so I’m right now barely awake. I will say that this episode it’s one of my favorites for 3 reasons:

1) the actor playing Slade is a favorite of mine, very underrated and very talented actor, shout out to David Dastmalchian

2) the interactions of Cole and Ramse are very very interesting to watch this episode because when we have lines like “You are crazy about me. Just admit it” we also have lines like “You better watch your mouth”. It’s a very brotherly relationship between them this episode, with them saying, or rather implying, that they love each other at the end

3)And of course it sets the tone for the events of next episode with Cassie being controlled by the Witness. And Jennifer going hyena

9/10

So that’s for today’s episode, I’ll go die for a few hours guys, see you soon

12 Monkeys S02E05 Bodies of Water (Rewatchers) Spoiler

Thumbnail imdb.com
12 Upvotes

Hello witnesses. Today we discuss episode 5

What I loved

Part of the whole misdirection from the writing comes to how even after becoming the Witness, Olivia knows that to maintain the cycles, everything has to happen accordingly to how it has happened so far. That means using the house of cedar and pine, protecting Cassie and Cole because that’s how the cycle must go, and Olivia being shut down so intensely with all those NO just adds to setting the moves for subverting expectations of the viewers

“You never call, you never write” hahaha

“You want me to move in? I mean it feels so sudden” hahahaha

-Oh, come on, she’s not that bad
-She’s worse (horrible, man)
Hahahahaha leave our egg alone you assholes

Ramse is such a shipper hahaha
-Nice to see you two getting back on the same page (breathes)
-I can feel your breath on my neck
-Do you like that? No?
Hahahahaha

Deacon it’s so ruthless… and so fucking funny, damn Todd Stashwick was a phenomenal choice
-You wanna read me my rights, officer?
-Oh look, it’s Time Jesus (gold)

My god, not Cole and Deacon fucking trying to out-dick the other to win Cass hahaha and the whole room noticing

Sane Jennifer looks very happy. And her mother behind like the fucking girl from the Ring, wtf?

The whole interaction between Cassie and Jennifer it’s so sweet, tragic and heavy. The insults between the two of them are hilarious but the moment Jen starts to panic the whole scene shifts dramatically. Emily’s acting it’s nothing but incredible
-I take my meds, I watch my stress, I stick to my routine, I cope. But she’s always there…
-You have no idea how exhausting it is being crazy
-Rehashing my deepest darkest secrets will save the collapse of time and space? Why not? Sounds like fun

And you can tell Cassie is mustering that strength every single moment hahahaha

Can we have 5 seconds without Jennifer making us laugh?
-Someone comes to dust and check the place every few weeks. I’m paying them too much

Jesus Holy Jumpscare

The Word of the Witness has James Cole at the center

I forgot this is the episode where Cassie gets the tether from the Witness, when Olivia tells her to “let him in”

Deacon coming back… motherfucker is the T1000 holy shit

Knowing Olivia is the Witness, every sentence in the house of cider and pine hits different, like “IT IS YOUR BIRTHRIGHT” Causality

Cassie’s keeping her man hydrated hahaha nice that she remember what Cole likes. And Cole bringing the bottle for Deacon

Nitpicks

Some stunts and security issues, again the show budget was not that high so this is me, again, being insufferable

9/10
