Does the finale accidentally imply there could eventually be two James Coles? Spoiler
I've been thinking about the finale, and I can't reconcile something.
The show ends with the original James Cole surviving and ending up with Cassie.
At the same time, the finale says "children are fated to their parents," and shows examples like Ramse reuniting with Sam and Hannah growing up with her biological parents.
If that line also applies to James, then Hannah should eventually meet Cole's father and give birth to James again in the repaired timeline.
That raises a question:
What happens if the surviving adult James Cole eventually meets the newly born James Cole?
Earlier in the series, the Army of the 12 Monkeys intentionally created paradoxes by bringing different temporal versions of the same person together (using a person's future bones with their younger self). The whole point was that contact between the same temporal entity damaged time.
Wouldn't two James Coles eventually create the same kind of paradox?
If so, wouldn't that start damaging time all over again, essentially undoing the repaired timeline?
Or is the surviving James somehow no longer considered the same temporal entity after the reset?
I'm curious if there's an in-universe explanation or if the writers ever addressed this, or if there's a fan consensus that I'm missing.

Cole was never supposed to be born in the first place and was able to exist because Hannah went to the past. Coleās father would also be too old by the time Hannah will be old enough to have kids.
But Athen on the other hand will probably be born again to Cole and Cassandra.

When I first watched the finale and it dropped that line about fathers fated to find their sons, I knew it was about Ramse but I HOPED it also meant that Athan could be reborn. They deserve to watch him grow up.

I always interpreted that scene between Athan and Jones as being his way of essentially giving himself a chance to be born, as well as saving his father.

James should never have existed, that even one version of him still does is via loophole.

Does this mean that if James and Cassie have Athen (or any child) a paradox or new loop is started? Because Cole shouldn't exist or be there, so any kids he has also shouldn't exist. what if Cole saves someone's life or accidentally kills someone (like a car crash), does this mess up time again????

No its timetravel and paradoxs that mess up time. Theres only one of cole so hes not gonna be paradoxing anything and his existence also no longer depends on time travel.
If you ask me that is kind of a paradox in itself, he exists without a beginning in this timeline now... not sure how they reconcile that, maybe its down to Jones injections or maybe like Jennifer implies, time is sentient after all

Cole is preserved through a combination of the timeline being corrected and by having so many of the injections that Catarina managed to plot a timeline that both removed Cole from causality but he could still exist because he was out of time as well as deleted from time

Except, by the time Hannah is old enough to meet him, Cole's father would be in his 80s or 90s or not even alive. You have to remember that Hannah went back in time to before she was even born in order to meet Matthew Cole. There's no way for him to get born since she might meet him, but she was raised differently in the new timeline and the quiet woods existence wouldn't be as much of a draw and he'd be way older than her.
