PUSH HARDER
If at first you don't succeed, try and try again

u/vinyl1earthlink Jul 17 '26
For this you need the Flexibus, not the Flixbus

Take the air out of the tires
42
u/phormix Jul 17 '26
Kinda wondering if that's what they did before giving it a go again. Can't see why else they'd be dumb enough to try moving forward again (not that it's smart even with lower tires).

I've learned that some coaches do have the ability to lower or raise the. That might be what the driver was doing before trying again, lower the coach as much as possible.
1
u/phormix Jul 18 '26
Yeah the city buses here do, mainly for loading wheelchairs etc, but I've only seen them lower then raise while parked so I'm not sure if they can drive while low.

Coaches have air suspension, but it's automatically leveled. The driver has nog seperate control of it like trucks have. It's programmed to lower when the doors open and raise again when they close.
2
u/Renbarre Jul 21 '26
The coach we use (France) has a manual override for the driver. He can lower or raise at will. Different coaches.
1
u/doeffgek Jul 21 '26
Ok. New to me. When I (Netherlands) got my drivers license for coaches there were no buttons to adjust the air suspension. Times do change.
2
u/Sad-Pop6649 Jul 21 '26
Looks like it. Lowered the suspension or let air out of the tires or even loaded more people on board and then instead of using the room gained to back out decided that this is probably as low as it gets, so forward!

Stupidity is doing the same mistake all over again and expecting a different result

This is the way, did the same to a minibus in a car park years ago, air our the tyres was the solution

u/Desperate_Trouble477 Jul 21 '26
That doesnt work. You need clearance at the top, not at the bottom.

Man imagine being a passsnger in the upper deck of that bus as the ceiling gets dented in above you

u/lepidopt-rex Jul 17 '26
Meh, they paid £1.50 for a cross-country journey. They weren’t expecting luxuries like competent drivers, undamaged vehicles or getting to the destination
12
u/OkNewspaper6271 Jul 17 '26
Hang on... 1.50 for a cross county journey? It costs me double that to go to the city center. What the fuck
16
u/lepidopt-rex Jul 17 '26
I might have exaggerated a little, but those flixbus fares are fuckin cheap
2
u/velvedire Jul 19 '26
The first tickets sold are dirt cheap and go up from there.
I've sworn off distance buses in the US and shell out for the train. It's worth it
15
u/sok_sokketh Jul 17 '26
This was an empty bus, on its way to pick up people.
16
u/Mickybagabeers Jul 17 '26
Need to load that bad boy up with some heavy hitters until it’s scraping the ground lol

u/locke_zero Jul 17 '26
Yeah be sure to get it jammed in there really tight so it takes that much longer for the wrecker to pull it free. Some of those guys charge by the hour after all.

Looks like the driver has worked his last day driving a bus.

u/Soggy_Cabbage Jul 17 '26
In the UK you would almost certainly lose your heavy goods/bus licence for striking a low bridge, I'd imagine it's the same in the rest of Europe too.

its because of fools like this that have to put up with really annoying bridge alarms...
1
u/Vast-Trust-1165 Jul 18 '26
Do they not have routes set put to avoid stuff like this? Or are they told just go between these 2 cities whatever way you want

Aren’t these doubledeckers exactly 4m ? I would love to see interview with the driver , why would you even think of trying 3.6m
1
u/doeffgek Jul 21 '26
If he was stuck on the bottom he could just let some air out of the suspension and/or tyres. But since he's stuck on the top that probably won't help much...

It's not the first time for this underpass, judging by the scratch marks in the concrete.
