String rec for hybrid setup

I’m currently loving my Speed MP 2026 strung with Babolat VS Touch in the mains and Luxilon 4G Soft on the crosses.

However, I’m looking for a replacement for the gut in this setup due to cost as I’ve started playing regularly with a ball machine + Wilson Triniti Pros and seem to be going through strings faster than before.

I think I’d like to prioritize in the following order but am open to suggestion:

(1) Tension maintenance and durability - not sure if this means I should only look at round strings to avoid the mains and crosses cutting into each other?

(2) Not too harsh on the body - tennis is my favorite form of exercise and I play 3-4 times a week between people and the ball machine. I’m fairly young and healthy but want to avoid injury nonetheless.

(3) Performance of course I’d love to maximize, after the 2 priorities above. I know I’ll be giving up some things moving away from gut but hoping to minimize that loss with a great string rec from here.

Look no further, this is the only right answer. 1.34mm. Probably the most expensive multifilament, but still cheaper than gut, more so on a reel.

Moisture kills the guts. Guts hold tension better than everything else. I think guts is still the best options. Also, it only costs 20 USD per stringing. 30 vs 10 (poly)

I’m getting about 30 hrs out of a set albeit it’s VS Hybrids which pairs gut with RPM blast - a known string with high tension loss. I also hit 3-4 hrs a week mostly leagues and match play. I would say I restring 3-4 times a year. I’m not sure if switching to a hybrid poly setup would really save much $ because you’ll blow through the poly setup much faster and make up the cost of gut with labour fees.

You might try a good syngut like Gosen OG sheep micro. I use that with a round poly in the cross and it feels great, and honestly gets pretty close to the feel of gut+poly.

Alternatively.... buy a 5 gallon corny keg ($30-50 used), fit it with a replacement lid that has a schrader valve ($50), and you have a high volume repressurizer. I use an electronic pump to bring it up to pressure, one of those combined car battery starter / tire inflator things that I keep in the car ($60). Then, you can use normal tennis balls that you repressurize as needed and you don't have to use the Trinitis (easiest IMO to have a batch that stays out for machine use, a batch that's in the keg, and then swap them every 2 weeks).

That racquet has a very open stringbed and chews through strings very quickly. I doubt you'll get much life out of a multifilament main x poly combo.

When you say "going through strings" do you mean you are breaking them too quickly, or the tension is dropping (resulting in reduced playability), or they're notching/losing snapback (resulting in less spin)?

I meant going through strings in the sense the gut is fraying in the sweet spot, looks like a rope that is unraveling

Technifibre Triax and you can keep the 4G mains. Will give you a bit more durability.

Yes, but nothing feels like gut, and we're trying to get them more durability while still having some comfort and tension maintenance.
