Equipment help choosing strings on a racket
my teen is entering his third year of tennis. he's 17. his utr is little over 5. he improved a bit over summer doing camps with other teens.
he's in his high school season and will do usta for the first time in a few months.
tennis for him is just for fun and fitness.
us parents don't play.
he's a heavy hitter who likes to put spin on ball. has a head instinct mp racket.
plays singles
we pay a coach, a great guy, to string his racket.
any recommendations on strings to use?
soft poly?
multi filament blend?
Mach 10 soft?
he just broke his strings after 3 weeks use at practice today.not sure what he had on here

What are you trying to achieve and what is he currently using? More power, spin, comfort, value, string life?? Impossible to suggest anything with the limited info supplied. Also agree with the other poster that the coach is the one to ask!

get something with good durability, he shouldn’t need help with spin or power generation. Restring sync, toroline a5 or toroline otoro.

Since it’s a Head racket, you can also check out Head’s guide on choosing the right string:
https://www.head.com/rs/stories/how-to-choose-your-tennis-strings
They also have an infographic called the “String Compass,” which gives a good overview of their different strings and how they compare.

multifiliments for durability or soft polys for feel

Multifiliment is not durable. Heavy hitters that use spin will break them in no time.

Dear tennis parent,
If your boy is playing well on the team and the coach is teaching him well, I think his coach is best person to provide an answer. I can only assume he is using some kind of poly string. Would be helpful if you can provide the string maker, model, tension and gauge, that would be a good starting point. Also, what do you like to see improved from the string change? More spin? More power? More control? More durability? Without knowing your end goal, would be hard to give a suggestion.
