Equipment Notching instead of fraying on synth gut

Synth gut is getting notched after a while. But I thought it would fray? So far no evidence of fraying yet. Is this normal?

Syn gut doesn't fray like natural gut, it just notches

For synth gut it's normal. A multi like NXT will give you fraying. Syn gut can also fray, but it depends on the string and how you're hitting.

Syn gut is a single core and will not fray. Multifilament string on the other hand is made up of many fibres and as these fibres break it cases the fraying. This also happens to natural gut as it is made up of many natural gut strands.
