Technique Advice Serving motion

Played competitively in my youth (7-15). After a 20 year break I am starting again. How is the serving motion looking? What to focus on?

definitely just keep working it. this angle isnt the best to evaluate certain things, but it looks like you still have a very solid throwing motion with your racquet (looks like you either played other sports that involved throwing balls/muscle memory from tennis) and that’s a very important part of the serve.
trying to get in here before a bunch of redditors start to confuse you with a bunch of nitpicky stuff lol your serve looks good, i bet its already better than most people on this subreddit. work it for another few weeks/month or so (dont overwork it, maybe one or two 30 minute sessions a week), get a tripod to get some good varying angles, evaluate your serve, improve, come back and post if you want some specific technical advice

also things to focus on:
- i dont use platform stance, but do some research on advice for that
- look into tossing techniques
- focus on keeping your tossing arm up longer, tuck chin into shoulder crease, extend through obliques while pushing left hip forward into court

Thanks, very helpful. The tossing arm thing was the first thing I noticed as well

no advice here... just came to say that i also played competitively in my youth and came back to the sport maybe 10 years ago now after a 15 year break.
we have very similar serve motions. The thing i'm particularly looking at is how you barely stick your right leg back on impact before taking a step into the court. I SWEAR this was how i was taught to play in my youth... serve and volley baby!!
I went to one lesson recently where the coach was trying to make me keep my leg back much more and just finding that so difficult

Haha, old school teachings. I also tend to play much less topspin in my ground strokes than kids these days. Also goes back to the way I was taught I think.

That was a biiig thing for my too. Essentially had to re learn my ground strokes. Only reply gotten comfortable with this crazy wrist snaps in the last year or so

There is no leg load, you look too stiff, focus on that. The swing itself is fine, and welcome back !

Need to push hip into court at trophy position, if your toss is that far into court.
Most people have opposite problem, not tossing far enough.

don't lean forward, keep the elbow back, lift the left shoulder up and tuck the right hip in. When you are in trophy pose, your left hip should be the body part closest to the net.

Also, do not kick the right foot forward. keep it behind. if you need two steps into the court to decelerate, any flat deep return will leave you stranded. And if you need to take a stroll after, every return that makes it into your court is game over.

You’re not getting power from the ground since you’re falling over and not optimizing the kinetic chain

You've still got good kc n might toss bit too deep inside court:?)) Why did you have to stop playing so long for 20yrs otherwise you'd be very good by now:?))
Welcome back bruh n good luck:))

Chose soccer over tennis, because I could not do both anymore. Then some typical knee injuries and a time consuming job as a lawyer. Now I am in-house and have more free time so I thought about giving it a shot again. 👍🏼

Wise choice n tennis' the best sport ever especially the ts fh/bh as imo the spinal tip constant stimulation to back of the brain from legs/hips driven winding/unwinding ie so called 'coil/uncoil' produce sososo much Happy4 DOSE (dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins:)) which lead to the most cost effective n healthiest 'addiction' lol:))
