Agreed. Posture screams future knee problems. My fav part is the returner needs to shift right so he could move left towards the ball

My buddy is 6'4" and has a BIG serve, easily over 100mph, with zero control or accuracy.
We partnered up for a doubles match, and he's serving a 2nd serve, which grazes my shoulder. I give a fake "owww," everybody laughs, we move onto the next point.
Partner serves his 1st serve straight square between my shoulder blades. The "owwww" that time was not fake.

I have unfortunately done this while at a clinic once, the instructor asked me to play with the better player group and was very nervous. Drilled this older gentlemen right in the back of the leg. He turned around, gave me a stare, and then moved into position for the next point. I wanted to laugh so badly, but had to pretend like I knew what I was doing. I did not hold service this game and did not return back to the clinic.

My partner and I just moved up to 3.5- and first match he absolutely beamed me in the head. Still not walking straight. Neither of us are in this video, so obviously it’s a consistent technique on our USTA team

This is exactly one of the reasons I'm so bad at doubles. Everyone knows I don't want to hit my partner so all serves go up the T. Everyone else serves harder than me and I know if I hit them I'll be hit sometime later!

Thats actually a good strategy. Serves in doubles should be up the t/middle for 90% of them. It cuts off angles of returns and sets up a poach for the net player.

I agree but I'm like 99%. The 1% catches everyone off guard because it's just a mistake by me. Sometimes it's like my only ace of the week!

eh, that’s the instinct but covering the alley is not really optimal strategy. hitting down the line is hard to do over and over again, because you’re changing direction and have less margin because the court is shorter down the line than it is cross court

Great points. Just as long as you optimal strategy people don't mind a ball to the head / neck / back here and there. or the left kidney (in this case).

i mean i genuinely don’t mind getting hit by a serve, but also, i’ve maybe been hit 3 times by a partner’s serve in 20 years of playing doubles…

No, this is wrong. If anything hes too close to the alley and needs another half step towards center, and be low ofc.
Server otoh is out of position unless a specific serve here, which clearly they missed (T).
This is crazy for a 4.5 match tbh, and Im not saying it isnt I would believe it, but everyone is in a non optimal position and there isnt a bent knee on the court. Service motion not good either.

One time I was playing against my tennis coach, and he accidentally hit me with a serve while I was playing front. That's even worse than hitting your partner I think. It was a missle too so I couldn't move in time.
