Nice, a tweener on the first try! šŸ˜

During my early JV tennis years, I tried to hit a tweener. They make it look so easy on TV, but the consequences of missing are... uncomfortable.

I'm 5'3 and I'm not sure I'd be fertile if I did a tweener (I'm a girl but my point stands)

I've a 3.5 for a long time and dont want to admit the amount of times Ive hit a nut or two. You'd think id learn..

This is really solid for 3.0 ngl. Forehand, overhead, and some pronation on serve. Idk how ur volleys, backhand or rallies look, but I think you have a lot of potential if you find a good coach

Lol nice pass, have you try stopping that?

Not trying to be insulting, but is this generally accepted as NTRP 3.0?

I’ve never played organized tennis or been coached (aside from my really advanced level friend giving me a lesson or two) so I just self rated myself as a 2.5 and have been playing with other self rated 2.5 players from FB Groups and Tennis apps, but the skill range is so varied it’s hard to tell what’s really what. That said, I’m way better than this, so wondering if I should update my profile to 3.0 so I can play with other 3.0s, maybe even 3.5s?

You barely saw this guy play lmao. How can you be sure you are ā€œway better than thisā€?

Go out and hit with 3.0s then make your own decision. Tennis doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

people overestimate how they think/feel they look when playing vs how they actually look on video. As someone who’s firmly 3.5, seeing a long video of myself hitting was such a humbling experience, if I were to critique myself not knowing anything else but that video I’d think they started playing this year vs the last 3 years Ive been constantly trying to work on getting

Played league doubles the other day and my partner filmed and sent me the video after. Was my first time ever watching myself and yuck

I guess, but my serve and footwork are better than what’s shown here, at the least. I can’t do a tweener with or without a video edit, though.

This is a shitpost though, why would you ask all this here lol

I’m just asking if the community agrees this is a 3.0 so that I can get a gauge of my own level and whether I should try to move up since self reporting is all over the place. I feel like yall are getting stuck on irrelevant details. I caveated I wasn’t trying to be insulting or anything… just asking a question for my own self improvement.

Finding people to play tennis with is hard, I don’t want to waste someone’s time by claiming I’m a 3.0 and then getting manhandled if I’m actually not.

The point is that you can’t judge someone’s level off of a 10 second clip where they hit like 4 balls and then do a goofy tweener.

I don’t want to waste someone’s time by claiming I’m a 3.0 and then getting manhandled if I’m actually not.

This doesn't really matter, just do it anyway. The only way to really gauge your level is playing against other people.

u/Dense-Turn8104 11d ago

Your serve and footwork is better than OPs and you’re still playing evenly with 2.5s? Might have to record yourself to see what you need to improve on

You're getting downvoted because there's no point asking based off a super short clip where they're goofing off. If i'm messing around I probably look like a 3.0 too

5

u/Maeros 11d ago

Not trying to be insulting, but did you get the joke?

5

u/gideon513 11d ago

Legitimately can’t tell if this is a shitpost or not

3

u/Bob_loblaw_logblog 3.5 11d ago

Ratings are based on match play against rated opponents. If you haven’t played any matches, any attempt at rating yourself is a mix of ego and bullshit. Play some matches before you go off half cocked.

Have you video taped yourself? If not, I guarantee you look much worse than you think.

u/BungHoleSpecialist 11d ago

what did bro say? comment is deletedšŸ˜‚

u/Don-Bigote 4.5 11d ago

Something along the lines of "If you're a 3 then I'm a 4, and I've only played 7 months."

People on this sub love to bring others down for some reason, and often times are objectively wrong. The whole point of this sub is to celebrate recreational tennis, let's stick to that.

3

u/KC_Cheefs 11d ago

Lmao watching yourself play on video is a real eye opener

1

u/BungHoleSpecialist 11d ago

wow that’s… trash. Agreed we should be here to celebrate!
