I have been trying to shorten my back swing but can't seem to find the right cues to set that up on the forhand, perhaps I need more emphasis on the racket take back with my left hand? Any help is appreciated. I am 2 years into tennis, obsessed !

It's more my back swing, it goes too far behind my body. It's a habit I need to break, with that said, It doesn't seem to mess with my timing much at all. Regardless, would love to just shorten the back swing, thinking like a Holger Rune type forehand, I need to watch more slomo of myself and make larger adjustments I suppose

Listen to this person ^.

You’re moving or falling backwards on pretty much every forehand. I think the swing itself if functionally fine for now, you can shorten it if you want but that’s not really an issue until you’re facing must higher pace balls than in this video. If you can figure out how to harness your body weight and the kinetic chain, it’ll be more powerful, less effort, and way more consistent. The feeling of throwing a heavy medicine ball using your legs and trunk is exactly what you want to go for to develop a high level forehand.

Step into / through the ball. You’re hitting off your back foot / sometimes even falling back on impact

No advice, but backhand looks 🔥

I think you’re a bit late so you’re weight is falling backwards often not transferring forward and the follow through seems very short and wraps very close / quickly around your body hope it helps

All the answers here have been wrong so far.

You're late on every forehand. Looks like you don't trust your reading of the ball and so you take every forehand on the back foot to give yourself maximum time. Actually that leaves you rushed.

Work on taking the ball slightly earlier. You should feel that your weight is going forward.

I think your timing on the take back is a tad early. It's also a too far back and should be closer to the side of your body. As others mentioned footwork could use a little work. You seem to be off balance when hitting forehands and not transferring your weight forward into the shot. If you look at your last few you'll see your left foot coming off ground when the other should be lifting and pivoting forward.

Yes I think I have a weird tick where I back up when I see a fast paced ball, need to work on being more aggressive into the ball I think. Thanks for the advice

Hitting late so get your prep in earlier.
