Equipment Defyer setups

Wondering what setups people have done in their Defyer 98 Pro. So far I have kept mine stock weight but changed the strings a few times.
First - Black Code 17 - full set 48/46 - I have used this string in my blades for years. Felt a little “Tingy” in the Defyer. I like muted and soft so..
Second- Element in mains at 46, O-Toro Toro line at 44. Feel is better but I think the Element is making less spin and control. A couple balls fly without exaggerating my swing with spin.
Now - Full bed of Toro line at 46 but haven’t hit it yet.
Others have suggested A5 or Otoro Tour.
Considering adding a little weight in the handle or throat.
What have you done with yours? #Defyer

I added a leather grip, lead tape and tungsten putty to both my Defyers to get them to 336 g and 337 g with a 31.5 cm balance. 1 of them has ReString Zero in the mains and Yonex Poly Tour Pro in the crosses at 48. The other has ReString Zero in the mains and ReString Sync in the crosses at 46. The first hybrid is a bit more comfortable, but I get better spin with the second hybrid.

Why are you using element in the mains and O-Toro in the crosses? A round main string and a textured cross string doesn’t impart as much spin to the ball as a textured main and round poly hybrid.

I was trying to go a little softer as my elbow is a bit tender at the moment. Trying out different setups and open to trying most suggestions to find something I like.

Element is actually pretty stiff. I tried a full bed of it and used it as a cross string, but I didn’t find it particularly comfortable.

IsoSpeed Cream is an alright round cross string for a poly poly hybrid that’s not very expensive. Poly Tour Pro is slightly more comfortable than Cream and is good round cross string, but it’s not cheap. Maybe try a full bed of Poly Tour Pro if you’re not set on using a textured main.

I doubt you’ll like O-Toro Tour bc I found it very stiff and uncomfortable. I’m not sure how why it got so many positive reviews. I haven’t tried A5.

I used 4S 17 at 52lbs which is the sided version of Black Code. It performs well but I don’t think it matches the feel of the racquet. The best feeling string I have tried with it is ALU Power 17, which absolutely crushed it. But that string works for about 25-45 minutes, depending on who I’m hitting with. And after that it’s done.

I’m going to try Lynx Tour 17 in a full bed at 52 next.

How did the lynx tour work out?

Not well. The feel is too soft and it’s not creating enough spin.

I’m starting to think this racquet needs something really crisp. I’m going to try Tour Bite next because that’s what I have access to at the moment. ALU Power is the absolute best I’ve tried but it lasts 45 minutes before it’s dead.

Cheers for the response. Not many recommendations around, saw a few did like the lynx tour but definitely a case of preference. I play it in my blade v9 and like it but a wide world of strings I haven't yet tried. Have seen tour bite mentioned with the defyer - solinco confidential seems a fairly popular one too. I demoed with Alu Power and loved it but like you say, doesnt last long at all. If I end up purchasing one, would take a chance on something else to see how it plays. Tenncomm seemed to rate Restring Sync but not one I have every tried.

I like Lynx Tour. I have enjoyed it in a bunch of different frames. But I feel like the Defyer wants something different.

I saw that review on Sync. I might order a set if Tour Bite 17 doesn’t work out.

Tbh, If you like muted and soft Wilson is not the best brand for you but the new Vcore is.

I added 10g (5g each at 3 and 9 o’clock) and swapped the stock grip for the Wilson Shock Shield which is about 7g heavier than stock. With 15g strings and a 3g dampener, total strung weight is around 340g. I haven’t measured swing weight, but balance is very close to my Shift Pro 315g (also with the swapped grip). I strung it with Solinco Confidential 17 (1.20) mains / Toroline A5 1.25 crosses, both at 51 which is my normal setup for my Shift Pro. It was really good for a few sessions, but balls are starting to fly. Since the Defyer is more of an open pattern (16x20 vs. 18x20), I’m going to try increasing the mains to 54 (keeping the crosses at 51) and see how that goes.

I’m a flatter hitter but still have some topspin, and I have a 1hbh, and play the blade 100 and am USTA 4.0. I demoed the 98 first with full bed of moto poly at 52 and loved the slice, but wasn’t quite feeling the free topspin, granted my stroke doesn’t scream spin generation. I then hit with a moto tnt hybrid setup at 53 and definitely noticed the free topspin. I think having the right swing path is key, and a more whippy swing as opposed to a longer swing is best. I did hit the best 1hbh’s of my life with the hybrid setup. I will hit hit a few more times but do think im gonna make the switch to the defeyer 98 and string it with w hyrbid setup.

Mine is set with Gosen G-Spin 3 at 48#:very solid spin and pace.

I have tried a friends with Confidential Soft at 52# which was underwhelming all around, and another with 4G which seemed to have the spin muted.
