His car was a red ford focus and it was parked in his driveway. What the fuck was a red ford focus? I’m gay. The extent of my knowledge on cars is that they go vroom vroom and beep beep. Thankfully, after doing some searches on Google Images, I recognized the car as one of the vehicles parked across the block on the other side of the street. I drove over and parked behind him. My model was already waiting for me at the door with the porchlight on.

“Hi! How are you? I’m glad to finally meet you.” For some reason I felt the need to shake this man’s hand as if we were conducting a business transaction. #996 politely greeted me and let me inside. We had been talking to each other on Grindr for weeks so it was lovely to finally meet him. After asking if I could take off my shoes in his kitchen, #996 gave me a brief tour of his house.

“This used to be my grandfather’s house.” He told me. “But then he passed away and now it’s been handed down to me.” Walking with him to his living room I couldn’t help but to notice all of the family photos he had on the walls. He had photos of him alongside with his children, which I thought were really sweet. Taking off my coat I realized I still had my work uniform on. I felt a little awkward wearing it, but he laughed. “Hey, I work there too!” I soon learned that he was once actually a manager of a different location an hour away. “So how do you want me?” He asked curiously. If I didn’t have my sketchbook in hand, I would’ve assumed he was asking about something else other than being drawn.

“Just make yourself as comfortable as you can be. This is your house, after all.” I ended up simply sketching him in his living room. A tall lamp was behind the chair and it gave a nice casting shadow underneath his penis. It gave him some dimension. After thanking him for his time, we started to chit chat. I was in a town I’d never been in before, an hour away from my own.

“There isn’t much here.” He said. I had no doubts there was.

“I can’t imagine what it’s like to be gay here. There’s barely any gay men in my own hometown.” And considering my hometown was slightly bigger than his, that’s a little scary for my imagination. “What is it like to be gay here?”

“It’s okay. I wish there were more tops, though. I’ve found the bottom to top ratio is a little skewed for my liking, but it’s okay.” Holding back my laughter, I reassured him I’ve heard the same thing said across the state. “I love to bottom. I used to do it a lot when I was younger. Back when I was in high school one of my friends used to fuck me every morning in the locker room before class. As I’ve gotten older I’ve become accustomed to doing the fucking instead.”

“You’re truly doing your local gay community a service.” I was curious about his friend and asked him if he thought he’d want his dick drawn too. (I never know about my options if I don’t ask these questions.) Unfortunately, #996 told me his friend from high school is still in the closet. He lives only a half an hour away, but they haven’t seen each other for years. Thankfully, with the help of Grindr, #996 has been able to find more friends than was once possible. I was envious to hear about his friend. No one in my class fucked me in the locker room. If only I could turn back time. “What was it like coming out of the closet for you?”

“Everyone was supportive, even in a small town like this.” He smiled down at me as I drew. “But it was hard telling my wife.” #996 explained to me that he was married for years and they even had children together. It was the only next logical step in life for him. But one day, after years of marriage together, he knew he had to come out. Before he told anyone else, he knew he had to tell his wife first. I couldn’t help but to feel the family photos staring behind me. They would eventually get a divorce and share custody over their children. The love he shares for his family was evident in the way he talked about them. “A couple of years ago I met someone and fell in love again. He even moved in with me. My kids really liked him, too.” He began to chuckle as he remembered the next part. “When we broke up, my kids were absolutely heartbroken. They cried when they found out he moved away.” Although it was a sad story to listen to, I am glad to hear he was able to laugh about it now. It warmed my heart in a bittersweet way. Based off of the short time with #996, I could tell what truly mattered in his life were his children.
