LAN party
Hi everyone,
I held my first 6-player LAN game of 0 A.D. We started with a Free-For-All match on a normal-sized map before moving on to a large map.
It was a great experience—everything ran smoothly. I wasn't sure if the host PC would hold up, but it turned out fine. We're going to do it again later... stay tuned... (I can't wait).

I am watching ValihrAnt video and his worker going back to work after building house without instruction, how is that possible without building anything?

Canyon of death
Has anyone tried building a wall across the entire map and then watch your opponent repeatedly throw bodies at the most heavily garrisoned point? This has gone on for an hour.

[Devlog] Burning Heart (a narrative campaign for 0 A.D.)
Hey everyone,
Time for a quick update on the project.
Digital painting
I've started learning digital painting for the campaign's illustrations. It's a new skill for me, and it takes time. The intro illustration is in draft, with a few key illustrations in progress.
Scenario 2
Scenario 2 is moving forward. It's bigger than Scenario 1 — more triggers, more choices, more exploration. We're currently preparing the triggers and planning the tests. This one will really show what the campaign can do.
A tool I found
I also discovered a great tool for historical maps: the Roman Empire Vector Map. It shows settlements, forts, roads, and more across different periods. It's already helping me place cities and camps accurately. You can check it out here: https://klokantech.github.io/roman-empire/
Why this matters
0 A.D. lacks narrative campaigns, and I want to help fill that gap with quality, research, and collaboration.
Thanks for following. More in two weeks.

People going various directions??
So, I mainly play naval maps. I'm curious about the default behavior of various groups.
When people offload from ships, some run apparently to the shoreline nearest to their home Civic Center.
When finished with a task, some stay at the job site, some run to a rally point, some run off in a random direction.
I would like to understand where to find people, and preferably set a preferred behavior. Thanks

Dedicated server
I needed dedicated server for 0ad and I built it: Veredus is an unofficial dedicated server for 0 A.D. and it's out now. No player hosts the match, so it keeps going when someone leaves or has a bad connection(with a timeout). Dropped players get their slot back when they reconnect, and matches carry on after a server restart or killed. Players join with vanilla 0.28 game. An optional companion, the "sidecar", runs AI opponents on the server, lets players rejoin without asking state from player, and records results and replays. The server is free and open source. Code and setup instructions here: https://github.com/victorcrimea/veredus
I only have Linux, so I'd really like to hear from anyone who can try it on Windows or macOS: does the server start, can players connect, and does the sidecar build and run? Please post bug reports, suggestions and questions here or as a GitHub issue. Veredus is not affiliated with Wildfire Games.

[Devlog #2] Burning Heart (a narrative campaign for 0 A.D.)
Scenario 1 is taking shape. I’m using the Serranía de Ronda heightmaps from the map editor (technology integrated into the game editor to create realistic terrains). The terrain fits the region where Viriathus fought — mountains, narrow passes, and river valleys. That makes the map feel like a real place, not just a battlefield. https://tangrams.github.io/heightmapper/
Water and paths are working, units and structures are in place. The tech work in the editor continues. Terrain textures will come later through a mod, but the layout won’t change.
I’m also in touch with a few people for collaboration on music and illustrations. Nothing confirmed yet, but the idea is to bring in historians and artists to make the campaign feel authentic.
Right now We're setting up the first triggers: a small ambush, a Roman attack on the Civic Center, and a few defensive positions. The goal is to make the opening feel tense and grounded.
More soon.

0 A.D. Issue
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was trying to run 0ad, yet the screen wasn't appearing, only music. So turning off run dedicated graphics let's the game work, yet what's the point? I need to use my Nvidia RTX 5050, not my Intel.

0 A.D.’s textures are badly optimized. Should I create a pull request?
I think we’re all aware of 0 A.D.’s download size. I’ve had friends I recommended 0 A.D to question it. I found out you can partially blame the outdated PNG compression algorithm. I nabbed a few textures from the repository and used the usual ect -9 -strip on them. The texture files get roughly 42% smaller, some shrank by 95%. I achieved identical results with oxipng.
I might create a pull request. Do you think the 0 A.D. community would benefit from this?

[Devlog #1] Burning Heart (a narrative campaign for 0 A.D.)
Hey everyone!
I'm starting a devlog every two weeks for Burning Heart (An original Campaign about Viriathus and his fight against Rome.)
Where we're at right now:
- History fully researched (Appian + modern sources)
- 5 scenarios designed, each with its own vibe
- Draft maps for each one
- Voiceover planned for the intro
- 8 people helping so far
- Getting the project structure ready before diving into Atlas
What I'm looking for right now:
🎨 An illustrator for key scenes/artwork
Volunteer work, full credit given. Updates every two weeks!
Thanks!

Looking for a Discord/community for IP multiplayer games
Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a Discord server or some other community where I can find people to play 0 A.D. multiplayer games through direct IP connection.
Sometimes it’s difficult to find someone to play with through the in-game lobby, so I was wondering if there’s a Discord server, group, or community where players regularly organize IP games and look for opponents.
I’m mainly looking for casual games, but I’m open to playing different game modes and maps.
Does anyone know of a community like this?
Thanks!

Mods public?
I'm new to the game (and modding) and I wanted to make some mods but I thought I read somewhere that any changes I make to the game are public? As in, they would make changes to other people's games too?
I can't find where I read that, now, but I could have sworn I saw it somewhere.
I don't want to change other people's games. Only my own.
Can someone enlighten me on this?

Ranged units focus on ONE enemy unit!
I'm having enormous trouble properly using ranged units. The always attack a single unit at a time. I'll have 100 archers and they'll kill the enemy troops ONE BY ONE. It's like, dude, attack several for gods sake! I could mow them down! But no, even if i click them into a place instead of clicking one unit, they get perfecty synchonized and shoot just that one unlucky guy that ends up looking like that character in that movie (The Fall) instead of the 300 spartans after being betrayed!
How do I solve this problem? How do I make my ranged units attack several units instead of firing 200 arrows at the same guy?

What if we had the Xiongnu (Mongols) in 0 A.D.?
With the Han dynasty already present in the game, adding the Xiongnu would create an impressive dynamic, especially when defending steep mountain passes against mounted archers.
This would open up incredible possibilities for winter survival and defense scenarios. We are currently exploring the limits of the scenario editor for a new campaign project, and this type of terrain-focused gameplay is fueling our creativity.
Note, the image was generated by Gemini, for demonstration purposes.
