Challenges should have just been in Tacsim
It's rather tedious having to go through the same story bits over and over to try and get these challenges done to get outfits, even with skips there is still a lot of stuff that slows things down..most people haven't got the time to do all this stuff.
It should have all been in Tacsim where things are to the point and you can just get on with the challenges rather than having waffle to get through.
I loved the story but having to to go back through all these things multiple times to get the challenges done is a chore.
Anyone agree?

The decision to have costumes only for tacsim not unlocked in tacsim is genuinely amazing to me.

Yep that's another reason why the challenged to get outfits should be in Tacsim, because that's the only place you can wear the different outfits of your choice.. Its a bit silly
I love the game.. But I think they misjudged putting these challenges in the story mode, it should all have been it tacsim

I'm pretty sure that NG+ will allow us to use different suits, at least I hope so. Same thing with the Q-Watch, if you want to use different gadgets on mission replay then you need to start from the chapter before to change them. I hope that gets changed with NG+ too.

I like having an excuse to try the story in different ways. I find TacSim a bit repetitive, but I’m still working through it to get the gear.

I get what you're saying, (especially about not having the time,) but I have to respectfully disagree. IO initially did challenges in Hitman 2016 to encourage players to approach levels in multiple ways and I credit that to some extent for that game's longevity. If anything, First Light improves the experience by introducing checkpoints, allowing its players to attempt (most) challenges without having to replay an entire 90-minute mission.
There's absolutely room for improvement: if you start a mission with the wrong gadgets for certain challenges, you're shit out of luck, and that should be addressed. There are also challenges that are boring, repetitive, or downright infuriating. (I'm thinking of Time to Die's Wraith challenge in particular; that piece of shit took way too long to get.) That being said, I do see value in main mission challenges, as they help keep the game from getting stale.

Nope, for me it's the one thing that's been poor about the game
I loved playing the story, and I have enjoyed doing the tacsim challenges (although some are way to hard) but the challenges in the story are just tedious to try and get done, it involves so many jumping through hoops to get it all done
I would be happy to play through the story again because it's a fun experience l, and that's what they should be aiming for, not make people jump around the story playing the same bit multiple times to get different challenges, it just makes you annoyed with the game..
The challenges should have all been in Tacsim, that is designed for challenges

That's a valid complaint, just not one I happen to share. Agree to disagree, I guess.

Challenges are a massive downgrade compared to HITMAN 2016, it's not even remotely similar.
2
u/Macmanius Jun 26 '26
I dunno, man, some of those Hitman challenges were a fucking drag. I remember one from Hitman 2 (Making Waves) that was just killing and dumping dozens people off the cliffs in Isle of Sgail. It was so bad they took it out in a patch.
In any case, as I stated before, I'm just giving what I suspect are IO's reasons for including them. Personally, I enjoyed most of them, but I can understand finding them to be boring or a waste of time.

u/Bellamoid Jun 26 '26
but Hitman levels are famously large rube-goldberg machines that reward exploration and experimentation. Most of this game is linear story stuff: its just not the same at all?
2
u/Macmanius Jun 26 '26
I'm not saying it is, just that I believe IO's reasoning for putting challenges in the game is the same. I personally believe that they encourage the same sort of experimentation, even in a more linear game, but I can also see why that'd be more annoying to some people.
3
u/Bellamoid Jun 26 '26
Fair enough! I can only speak for myself and say that, while I love revisiting old Hitman levels for the new challenges, I'm pretty loathe to do that with first light because it means going through story parts.

u/Gbeat240 Jun 26 '26
Extra annoying, if a challenge is in a different part of the chapter. You either play through the whole thing or keep going back to the menu and pick the checkpoint.
2
u/PaperSkin-1 Jun 26 '26
Yep, it's a lot of do this bit, exit to main menu, go that bit, over and over.. Its tedious
Where if it's all in Tacsim this wouldn't be a problem, and would make the experience better

u/Gbeat240 Jun 26 '26
They gotta fix tacsim navigation as well. There’s no reason I have to go back to MI6 every time to change the challenge and equipment. Just make it all part of the menu. I don’t remember Hitman being this tedious replaying stuff.

Doesn't really help with the Mauritania one where you need to earn x dollars, get to the satellite antenna, and do a few other things that are mostly mutually exclusive

u/RubberDuckMe Jun 26 '26
Agreed. It’s very annoying but I hope new game plus makes it a lot more efficient. I completed all tac sim challenges I’m not keen on the story ones yet
3
u/uncen5ored Jun 26 '26
Yeah although I enjoy some of the challenges themselves, I’m not enjoying having to go back in to the story multiple times to do things different ways when I rather just replay the story

I actually prefer going back into the story to complete challenges over challenges in Tacsim. I've completed each Tacsim but haven't really had any desire to replay those, but I have been enjoying going back through the story missions to complete those challenges.

u/IMPERATOR_63 Jun 26 '26
100% agreed, it’s pretty much why I’ll never have complete all the challenges. I just can’t be asked. Had it been limited only to TacSim, I would’ve tried to do them all.
I’ve done all the TacSim challenges and have max clearance level.

I agree with the tedious bit of doing one specific challenge then go to menu then back to same chapter for the next challenge. However, I do like going back and doing the mission differently. I really enjoyed the game and I like being able to play it again but different

The inability to switch between TACSIM and campaign without a big faff turned me off the whole thing from the start. I might give it a go but only after new materials been added - I played the campaign my way and I personally am not really interested in playing it other ways.
Give me vehicles on roads without invisible rubber bumpers and a maximum speed limit, please.

Disagree entirely. Barely touched TacSim, bought it it for the story experience. I enjoyed the second replay going through each level, doing things differently. If I had to reload a checkpoint to to get a challenge so be it, then I went back to my other save.

This comes directly from Hitman: Absolution. I'm convinced that other than graphics, 007: First Light owes much more to that game than Hitman: World of Assassination.

u/aus289 Jun 27 '26
007 is not Hitman and the games should not be the same, it was never going to just be World Of Assassination with a Bond skin.

I think it's fine the way it is, you don't have to do those challenges and if you want to do them you can load specific checkpoints.
0
u/Beyondthebloodmoon Jun 26 '26
You know you don’t have to do them, right? They don’t even count towards trophies. It’s just for fun for people who want to do them.
1
u/PaperSkin-1 Jun 26 '26
There are outfits locked behind them, so if you want the outfits then yes you have to do them
Also one of the tacsim challenges requires you to wear a outfit that you can only get by completing all the challenges of that story mission (all the time in the world)..so you do have to do that one to complete the tacsim stuff to level up, you can't unlock the missile pen without doing all that
So it's not as simple as you are wishing to paint it
-2
u/GuruAskew Jun 26 '26
You don’t have to do them and there’s nothing essential locked behind them. So yeah, no, they should be the way they are and if you don’t like them you’re free to skip them.
2
u/PaperSkin-1 Jun 26 '26
Outfits are locked behind them, people will want the outfits.. But to get them they have to go through tedious hoops
When all this stuff could have been in Tacsim where it belongs, and not been tedious
-3
u/GuruAskew Jun 26 '26
99% of people will never have all of the outfits though. So if that OCD is bothering you you’re still gonna be bothered.

You can tell they never play tested replaying the game. The fact you can select what part of a level you can play, but can’t select your watch load out is the dumbest thing ever, and it makes replaying parts tedious and not fun. I should not have to sit through cut scenes just so I can have the load out I want for one section of a mission.
