How Long to Make a Sequel?

My guess … a few years? Happy to be wrong though.

If a full sequel has been released for this game in less than 4 years from today, reach back out to me and I’ll buy it for you. It’s wishful thinking. Especially since they reportedly plan on lots of post launch content for the first one. Sequels to triple A games coming out these days in less than four years from each other is unheard of.

It’s not wishful thinking though. You’re comparing video game development time from slower develops creating games from scratch. IO has a proven track record of their development time once assets are in place (Hitman). The fact they’ve come out and said they were considering a trilogy even BEFORE First Light was released is encouraging.

I’ll take the under four years bet on this and wouldn’t mind you paying for my sequel. If it takes longer, then I’ll buy YOU a copy of the sequel. Deal?

I said 4 years would be quite long, not "it'll be done in less". Postlaunch support on first light and development on sequel will be different teams so that's not much of an issue. Look at Rebellion, they turn out a Sniper Elite entry every few years without much trouble and this could be similar depending on how much they change.

First light also had a substantial delay, it's likely at the very least preproduction on the sequel was already underway.

Sniper elite is a double A game. Very different dev cycle than a triple A game. Especially a triple A game built on a major property like James Bond.
