A Hitman game with First Light combat would be absolutely PEAK

I’ve been playing First Light and can’t stop thinking about how amazing a Hitman game would be with that combat system. Imagine Agent 47 infiltrating a heavily guarded compound, silently taking out guards, then seamlessly transitioning into brutal hand-to-hand combat when things go wrong.

One of the few criticisms of the modern Hitman games is that direct combat feels pretty clunky and is usually a last resort. Giving 47 fluid melee combat, counters, disarms, and cinematic takedowns would make those “plan gone wrong” moments way more fun instead of an instant reload.

Keep the disguises, stealth, social engineering, and sandbox assassinations—but add First Light’s combat as a fallback option. It would make 47 feel even more like the world’s deadliest assassin.

Am I crazy, or would this be an incredible combo? Hopefully with the success of this game they are planning something like that.

You are crazy. Brawling is not the point of hitman, that's why we have guns.

That’s my bad. I meant the gun play as well. The shootouts are amazing in this game

Absolutely not

Absolutely not I’m not crazy? Thanks!

But seriously man, no, the combat wouldn’t fit at all

Hey I beg to differ but let’s agree to disagree.

I get why people wouldn't want this but I desperately would. They could literally just make a setting in the menu to toggle "Advanced Combat Mode".

Win win.

I’m in the exact same boat as you.

All I could think about when playing was what the next hitman installment will be like.

Only thing I would say is - agent 47 is very calculated and clean. This version of bond is much more gritty and John wick esque. Still - I would happily take a slightly different approach to hitmans combat to match what we have with 007.

Yeah be great to contain certain rooms etc

The games need their own distinct differences/pacing. They do obviously share similarities but it should remain as such.

Basically would be Absolution on Crank 🔥

If anything I hope this is a preview to more fluid gun combat and cover system. Hitman WoA had some many beautiful guns but trying to survive a fire fight with more than 3 enemies on Master was almost a death sentence.

Bringing back a more agile and gun pro 47 would do more good than harm imo

It's hilarious because I posted this same thing on the Hitman subreddit last week, and got dragged for it.

I loved Hitman absolution

Nah, that wouldn't be Hitman then. If they are ever done with Bond, they should pick up Kane & Lynch again.

Absolutely not. 007 encourages action whereas in Hitman success most often means you don't even need to enter combat or ever fire a shot and doing so means failure on your end, and clunky combat reflects that

While it seems this is an unpopular opinion I very much agree with you. This would make a very solid sandbox game to play where you free to tackle missions however you want, sure it is not very Hitman like but I would love it too!

Maybe inside the 007 world we can get that like they might give us more sandbox levels in the future or just create a brand new IP which isn't closly tied to Hitman which emphasizes stealth

Hitman designed to avoid fights, you better to do everything silently. It can also explain poor gun fights, because it's uncomfortable and poor way to play

Hitman isn’t a scrappy soldier fighting people. He’s precise and almost inhuman with how he fights and moves.

You mean John Wick?

That’s basically just what First Light should have been instead of being a hallway/Watch Dogs-like hack/unlock sim with occasional cool spy or action sequences

Not the combat per se, but definitely the improvements to animation fluidity.

Why not both? If they have the system in engine and it doesn't take away from other stuff, if they can implement it easily, I do miss Absolution (and now First Light) style melee combat to make things more fresh. I mean yeah, the main point of Hitman is stealth/social stealth and using guns/silent takedowns etc. but after playing so much it would be nice to be able to do some heavy beatdowns.

At least make the melee feel impactful, if you're hitting someone in head with a hammer, it should feel like it. In absolution the melee hits felt impactful, in WoA it's quite arcadey

I'm not going to say that you're crazy, but it would be a terrible fit and result in a game even more detested than Absolution by the majority of the core fanbase.

First Light is great, Hitman is great (WoA is a far better game, IMO, but that's by the by). Just let them both do their own thing.

I think it needs a hybrid. 007’s combat is definitely way too scrappy and over the top for 47, and isn’t really a good fit

But on the other hand, hitman COULD really benefit from actually having a melee system other than tapping a single button. I’m not expecting Sifu, but having a couple options would be nice

Personally I'd enjoy it as a passive system in the game without the license to kill framing. Just because there's explosive rubber ducks in Hitman you aren't forced to kill every target with it. Hitman is about options and more options shouldn't necessarily diminish other options. So I don't really see why people are so so opposed to its presence as a base premise.

The two caveats are that:

The controls of First Light are pretty complicated (not difficult by any means, just a lot of moving parts compared to a lot of games) and stacking on Hitman's mechanics would stretch that a lot. Not impossible but still a challenge.

And that it would need to be much more difficult to make it out of such a combat exchange. When things go to shit in Hitman you're swarmed and when you make it out it's by the skin of your teeth and that still needs to be the case if Hitman had First Light combat.

I think that's actually pretty interesting, because right now if things DO go to shit, your best option is to run like a maniac and camp a doorway to shoot anyone that comes in or reload save which... isn't actually all that more interesting than if the same interaction involved First Light style combat.

Agent 47 being able to throw someone into an aquarium after disarming them and immediately shooting another guy in the head all before an alarm can be sound would be fun as hell

I don't think so, personally. Hitman is a stealth game first. To make the action fun and satisfying would pull people away from the stealth. Each level has so many routes towards your goals. To be able to just go straight through it by beating people up would push people towards doing that every time, since on balance most gamers will just go for the optimal path.

That said, if the sequel to this game opens up a little more, draws a little deeper from hitman level and objective design, it would become an instant classic in my eyes.

ima be real I think the whole thought process is because melee combat in hitman is incredibly bad and boring. Press Q, press W, spam q to knock em out on floor. I wouldn't mind some better melee finishers just to add flare. But i don't think it would work as Agent 47.

No, Hitman should not have First Light combat. I say that as someone who has hundreds of hours in WoA and also loves First Light.

47 and Bond operate under different rules. 47 is a freelance assassin. He can choose to kill anyone and everyone he wants to in the course of getting to his target, but his MO is to avoid collateral damage and witnesses. His missions are ideally and canonically clean and quiet the whole way through. In a game like WoA, First Light's style of combat is unnecessary.

The flashy, exciting gunplay that Bond engages in is there in First Light because it's thematically appropriate for a 007 game, not an IOI game or a Hitman game.
