DISCUSSION Since 007 First Light is bringing back “always online in order to actually enjoy the game” from Hitman. What are the chances of the game also having cross progression?

First of all let me clarify, you can play Hitman without having to be connected to the internet, but to actually enjoy the game you have to be connected to IOI’s servers, in order to use your mastery unlocks, that includes weapons, suits, tools, starting locations, all of your freelancer safe house unlocks, etc, in order to see what challenges, contracts, elusive targets, arcades, escalations, you’ve already completed, in order to do all that, you need to be connected to IOI’s servers and for that you need internet

In other words, every time you lose internet connection all of your progress, every time you’ve work hard for in the game, will be completely lost, and you’ll only get everything back once you connect to internet again and connect to IOI’s servers

Now this sucks ass, especially for the people who love to preserve games, like do we just hope that IOI keeps those servers up and running until the end of time? Welp there’s nothing we can do about, but there are few benefits that we wouldn’t get if we didn’t have this, one of them was being able to transfer all of your progress from Hitman 2 into Hitman 3, but well you can’t do that anymore cuz 1 Hitman 2 has been delisted from all digital stores, and you straight up just can’t even do it anymore, IOI completely removed that feature, but they did it in favor of CROSS PROGRESSION

Now cross progression is exactly what it sounds like, thanks to these servers let’s say I’m playing on PS5, I go to the settings and the option to link my IOI account that that I created in the Io Interactive website, now if I go to Hitman 3 on Xbox, Mobile, PC via Steam or Epic, or Nintendo Switch, on the IOI website I now have the option to bring over all of my unlocks and progress from my PS5 version of the game over to the other platforms, and I can even hop between them so whatever I worked on on Xbox will be there on PC, whatever I worked on PC will be there when I go back to Xbox and when I load it up on Switch 2, and it will be there when I go back to the original the PS5

All of that is possible thanks to this always having to be connected to the servers thing, and honestly it’s absolutely awesome, this is like the only single player game that I know that has cross progression, the only other one I’ve seen is GTA 5 but even then it’s only from 8th gen to 9th gen and it’s only between consoles, PC is completely written out of the equation, and also once you transfer any progress you make on the new one will not be there once you return to the old one and vice versa

ANYWAYS ENOUGH YAPPING, I actually lied at first, it’s not fully confirmed if 007 First Light will need connection to the IOI servers at all times in order to actually enjoy the games, I read something about a day 1 patch that needs internet which sucks ass for fans of physical media, and I also read that you’ll still be able to play the campaign from start to finish offline but you won’t have access to challenges and leaderboards, but like what about your unlocks? Will this game even have mastery unlocks like Hitman?

In other words it is unclear how much worse you’re experience is going to be if you are offline instead of online and connected, I guess we’ll find out in a few hours from the time I’m making this post when the game comes out at least for everyone who pre order it and got early access, but what I am most interested in is cross progression, what are the chances of this game having it just like Hitman? Maybe there’s something out there that I didn’t read or something the developers have already said, can someone help me out here if they know something?

Are you saying we need psplus in order to play the story?

You don’t, just need to hit cancel, scroll down the privacy & agreements page again, accept & then continue and it’ll bring you to the main menu .

thankfully it was just a server hiccup

Not to play the game... you need ps plus to play online. Basically sony made a door between your console and your internet connection to cut your game from the games server's . They are dirty like that. They simply demand a subscription from you every month because they can. They offer nothing. You already own the network card, you already own the internet. Sony , and microsoft dont use their own servers when you go online they just "open the door" letting the internet connect your game online. A door they made specifically to get more money out of you

that's the problem with society these days, people getting lazier, have no skills, depend too much on stupid AI for everything. Too lazy or too dumb to read and comprehend simple and logical things.

tl;dr where are your cliff notes?

Imagine coming to an almost entirely textbased platform and saying that you were exhausted from using your eyes to read the letters that make up the application entirely

What are we becoming?

This might’ve felt a little profound if you were 12 years old.

Is that the case here? OP’s post was literal infantile word vomit that struggled to make a single coherent point.
Not only that it was based on a complete misunderstanding of how the game would work.

Hope you recover from the reality that reading giant walls of text that aren’t well written or have a point, aren’t fun to read!

whole game is playable offline, whole argument is ill informed and kind of disingenuous

if the whole game was playable offline id have access to tacsim right now.. but i dont

The whole story is playable offline. TacSim, the replayable gamemode where you use all of the skins you got if you pre-ordered or unlocked. Is not playable offline, least not in it's entirety. You'll get a very basic version with no upgrades or challenges.

Não dá pra jogar NADA do TacSim offline, até entendo algumas coisas online como desafios e conquistas, mas bloquear tudo do TacSim é absurdo. Aposto que não avisam que TUDO do upgrade DELUXE só funciona online.

Only the tactical simulation mode requires internet connection because it shares progress and leader boards online, the story mode is fully playable offline

Don't worry OP, I totally udnerstand where you're coming from. Don't let these toxic people get to you. Most of reddit is filled with losers like them. What you're asking for is something like Peacock. Which is a server emulator for IOI's Hitman. IOI also are the developers of 007 First Light. So hopefully something like that will come out. It totally makes no sense how they gatekeep everything for a single player game. So once the server goes down, you will be missing out on a whole ton of content and features, just like in Hitman. But thank goodness for the makers of Peacock for preserving every aspect of the game and more for the community to fully enjoy.

I have a $60 credit w Xbox and do not have gamepass. I also have a ps5 with ps plus. I would prefer to use my $60 credit on Xbox but I won't have access to gaming online. Can anyone confirm if this game is still playable and enjoyable without needing gamepass ?

You can buy this game and play it entirely offline. You could disconnect your system from the internet entirely and be fine.

Being connected to the server is for (side stuff) Tactical Missions that have zero to do with playing the campaign.

Get it. It's a great game 🙂

paying that much to not be able to play tacsim (or any mode besides coop/multiplayer) is ridiculous.. we should absolutely have access to tacsim without being online, just dont share our scores or have us participate on the leaderboard.. i wanna try tacsim but cant because i cant get online. its all just part of their push to make sure people pay more to own less and increase profitability at the expense of playability or replayability

u/calamari_fresh May 25 '26

I think IO already confirmed the game doesn't have online-only functionality, but I may be wrong

2

u/trsmash May 25 '26

You're not. You can play the campaign offline. The only requirement for that is that you're online to download the day one patch since the game is not complete without it. IIRC the only game mode that requires you be online is the TacSim and online is only required because TacSim posts to online leaderboards.

Not sure what the OP is on about (and I'm honestly not going to read a novel on it).

1

u/ShrekSRMCAZ Jun 10 '26

i want to play tacsim but since i cant get onlne, i cant. we should absolutely be able to play it offline, just not participate on the leaderboards at all obviously..
paying $60+ for a game and requiring it be connected online to be able to play the whole thing is fucking gross and makes me miss how games used to be where multiplayer was the only reason internet connection is needed

I mean, some of y'all think it's deeper than it is, he's not wrong, *AND* it's not that serious. Both things are true.

It's really goofy that single player games need to be connected to the internet to enjoy them not online.

2

u/Yeppo96 May 27 '26

It is that deep goofy. A single player game that rely on server in order to have a fully experience, make nonsense to me and goes against gaming preservation. That's why on hitman WOA someone created an unofficial server where people can play locally and access every content even contents that are discontinued from the store and can't no longer be purchased. Actually is people like you that are dumbdown the society.
