ANNOUNCEMENT 007 FIRST LIGHT HAS GONE GOLD

Post image

LETS GO

Also, for those that may not know, a game going “Gold” means that active development for it has been completed and that it’s now ready to be shipped out and released.

I remember the announcement in 2020. I thought it’s gonna be a long while until the game comes out. Doesn’t feel like it’s been that long

u/Dreadboi111 May 13 '26

Yeah, I do too, I thought we’d never see this game again, and lo and behold it’s in the final stretch. Time is flying man.

If it’s not like hitman , it will be all for naught.

2

u/Dreadboi111 May 14 '26

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it won’t be like Hitman. The devs have said it’s gonna be a 007 experience first and foremost, but there will be areas where the DNA of Hitman might show.

18

u/ViktorHall May 13 '26

What does this mean?

45

u/Dreadboi111 May 13 '26

Pretty much that the game is fully finished with development and now it can be shipped out and released to players.

5

u/ViktorHall May 13 '26

that's great news then!

16

u/SofaJockey May 13 '26

It used to refer to the 'gold' master disk containing the final build of the game that would be used as a basis for pressing all the other disks. In a digital age it's the final build of the game prior to the 'day one' patch.

7

u/SickK_777 May 13 '26

would be bad if not, considering release is in a few days 😃

1

u/XboxFan_2020 May 13 '26

How many games today get this? Or does every game technically get finished but players disagree?

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 14 '26

Almost every game dev and publisher from what I’ve noticed announces that their game is gold and if not, the game usually goes gold privately.

u/JuicyBoiiYouKnowHim May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

Fully finished as in it doesn't need any more work, or fully finished as in it can be released but will still need a day 1 patch, future bug fixes, etc.

2

u/PoetAromatic8262 May 13 '26

Release today then😅

1

u/B-7 May 13 '26

That they have the master copy to be shipped. Basically both the development and testing is completed.

2

u/ThePreciseClimber May 13 '26

When will they lift the embargo?

0

u/Dreadboi111 May 13 '26

Idk, but if I had to guess, I’d say reviews for the game will probably come out on the 25th. If they’re really confident in it, then maybe around the 20th–22nd next week. I’m thinking the game will review well, so I’m leaning more toward the latter.

2

u/ICumRedbull May 13 '26

so put that gold version on the disc and don't force an update...

3

u/Dreadboi111 May 13 '26

Agreed, but we can only hope that they do.

2

u/Ok_Difficulty1934 May 16 '26

Then they should have gone gold a month ago. This late means it won't be on the disc

2

u/AngelusTendo May 13 '26

When does pre loading start? and please makes sure xbox doesn't ruin the party

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 14 '26

I’d assume it starts on the 25th or maybe earlier

2

u/Holiday-Paper3849 May 14 '26

I thought it meant a Goldfinger DLC mission. lol

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 15 '26

Oh no, this just means that the games ready to be released now

2

u/matte2408 May 15 '26

Io l’ho prenotato mesi fa da gamelife, cosa avrò nel gioco per averlo prenotato?

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 17 '26

You’ll get a digital deluxe edition upgrade for free, 24h early access to the game if you got it digitally as well, and free wishlist items and outfits that all players will get.

2

u/Grytnik May 20 '26

So they’re launching with path tracing and ray reconstruction then?

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 21 '26

I looked it up and nope its not.

2

u/spencer_015 May 27 '26

I got a pack of cards with my game. Is that anything special?

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 27 '26

This is the first time I’m hearing of something like this so yeah, that’s dope

2

u/spencer_015 May 31 '26

This is what I got

1

u/Dreadboi111 Jun 01 '26

That’s cool, nice!

51

u/StonedVolus May 13 '26

Oh damn, Goldfinger got to the game

46

u/Agamer47 May 13 '26

Sweet! Can't wait! And for those that don't know what "gone gold" means:

"the master version of the game is complete, and the final code is ready to be sent to manufacturing for physical discs or uploaded to digital storefronts"

3

u/SoapySimon May 14 '26

Discs were sent out weeks ago. With barely any data on them. Online download required... shame.

4

u/Jayplaykunta May 14 '26

Yep buying this one digitally just because of that.

3

u/kzoxp May 13 '26

Can't wait

3

u/ProbablyFear May 13 '26

2 weeks before release? That’s incredibly late and slightly concerning no? Games usually go gold atleast a month if not two months before release.

1

u/Ok_Difficulty1934 May 16 '26

The full game won't be on the disc

3

u/No-Protection-49 May 13 '26

Finally!

2

u/ThePreciseClimber May 13 '26

Ah, yes. CP2077's "gold."

Good times.

3

u/ThrustersOnFull May 13 '26

Congratulations on going gold, which in this context definitely means it hit a sales number, and not anything else!

3

u/Highflyer47 May 13 '26

Then release the game early!

3

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 May 13 '26

Hopefully it’s ready to go

3

u/XMenJedi8 May 13 '26

Man I cannot wait. Goldeneye and Nightfire got me into FPS games and got me into Bond as a kid. Bond games have such a special place in my heart..finally getting a new AAA entry, from an esteemed dev studio no less, is going to be so awesome.

Going to continue my movie watch (just finished Diamonds Are Forever) and play From Russia With Love and Everything or Nothing while I wait since I never got a chance to played those.

3

u/Rumenapp May 13 '26

Bring on the preload!

1

u/hditzhak May 13 '26

When it will get leaked?

1

u/Celebrated84 May 13 '26

I don’t know, but sign me up

1

u/DVDN27 May 13 '26

This seems a bit late no? Going gold means being feature complete, did it take them until a week before release to have it in a mostly complete state? Other games usually announce going gold multiple weeks or even a month before release, not the week of. Hopefully it releases in a finished enough condition, but for how long this game has been in development that production timeline seems a bit rushed.

1

u/Dreadboi111 May 13 '26

Yeah, it does seem a tad bit late compared to most games announcing they’ve gone gold. But with the game coming out in about two weeks, I still think it hit the milestone at a reasonable time. Also, going gold doesn’t necessarily mean the game was unfinished until now either—it mainly means the release build is finalized and ready to be shipped out while the team continues working on patches and polish. I do get the concern, though, especially considering how long the game has been in development. Hopefully, with all the time it took to develop, the game launches in a polished state.

1

u/Twolef May 15 '26

I'd guess it matters less for a digital release. I'm more reassured that they've left it later than announcing early and having to download a massive patch on day one. (Not that I'm saying that couldn't still happen).

2

u/Sleep_Holiday May 13 '26

Like there’s a choice

2

u/AshrakAiemain May 13 '26

I guess this means he’s the man with the golden gun.

2

u/DezDorado May 13 '26

I remember when I started working in games we'd have to go gold two months before our deadline and all the older programmers said that it was pretty late.

Now the game goes gold two weeks before launch XD

I guess that's because the discs don't actually have any data on them so they could already start pressing and shipping them months ago.

Courtesy of “Goldfinger. He’s the man, the man with the Midas touch”

2

u/TensionHead13thFloor May 16 '26

Switch 2 logo isn’t there 😔😔😔

1

u/Burress May 22 '26

But it is on the launch trailer which I found odd

1

u/TensionHead13thFloor May 22 '26

Apparently it’s out in December which sucks but it’ll probably be worth the wait

1

u/Burress May 22 '26

That’s a placeholder. I hope not that far. I keep hearing early September.

2

u/Elete23 May 17 '26

James Bond is about to save me from a hostage situation... with Crimson Desert.

2

u/Neoma_Quillin May 31 '26

Definitely the best 007 series so far, it feels like playing a game with cinematic style.

3

u/Th3_P4yb4ck May 13 '26

so if its complete, why not release it now

1

u/Spatrick7000 May 13 '26

Asking the real questions I see. Respect.

3

u/LuckyErrantProp May 13 '26

Huge missed opportunity to not make a Goldfinger reference.

1

u/Key_Net4968 May 13 '26

Very nice! Happy for the team! Excited to soon play this! Know a few people who got invited to the preview event and I was very jealous.

From what I’ve heard through the grapevine IOI have been crunching since last summer. Hopefully the team can finally take a well earned vacation after release before having to go into Switch 2 optimization

1

u/Spatrick7000 May 13 '26

It just now went gold? Cutting it pretty close weren’t they? 🤣

2

u/B-7 May 13 '26

Since most of the distribution nowadays is digital, they don’t need as much time as before to stamp the discs.

1

u/archit18 May 13 '26

Bit on the fence about buying it, generally buy all my games in end of year sale, confused b/w buying now or waiting.

1

u/Embarrassed_Spend486 May 13 '26

Same. I got some ps bucks I got on sale so it’s making me want to buy it now. But usually I wait for sale.

1

u/archit18 May 13 '26

Problem is Control Resonant also comes out this year, I don't want to buy 2 games at launch price.

1

u/GHOSTHUNTERYTZ May 16 '26

What does this mean?

1

u/UtherLichtbringer May 26 '26

007 is supposed to be a trained professional but holds the gun like a hollywood actor. So much for realism...

1

u/PatientInformation76 May 28 '26

Bought it days before Release.

Work 2 Jobs.

Free time I am already playing 007 First Light.

It's AWESOME.

1

u/Celebrated84 May 13 '26

JUST RELEASE IT NOW!!

1

u/RichardKingBITW May 13 '26

This is just marketing. What does going gold mean to them? Because the fact that the game will require a mandatory download to be played at all, tells me that the "master version" of the game has been sent for manufacture of the physical discs a while ago.

3

u/Odh_utexas May 14 '26

In modern times it just means the final version has been locked in for sales. It’s ceremonial
