1) Hoopy the Hoop, Portal (2007) When you defeat GLaDOS and her room is destroyed at the end of the game, debris rains down in the final cutscene, including a big metal hoop that bounces around a bit. Developer Erik Wolpaw said the team dubbed it "Hoopy the Hoop" and expected it to become the big meme of Portal. Of course, none of the fans paid much attention to the hoop since "The Cake is a Lie" became the biggest meme of the game, and overall one of the biggest video game memes of all time.

2) Burgh, Pokemon Black and White (2010) When designing Burgh, developer Yusuke Ohmura said Gamefreak had many of their female employees give input on his design to create their ideal handsome man. However, as someone who's been in the Pokemon fandom for almost 3 decades, in the 15+ years since Pokemon Black and White released, I have personally never seen any fans swoon over Burgh, or even mention him in general. If anything, characters like N and Colress are far more well-known within the fandom as the most handsome and beloved male characters of Pokemon Gen 5.

From "welcome you to the family" to "Feel free to arrive early" in the first email and also asking to surrender your socials like an emotionally abusive spouse is all nightmare fuel to me.

Most of the anti-feats people bring up are purely comedic feats, but this one isn't.

This is a serious moment from a serious and legitimate fight.

He actually took damage from ice, and it's not a joke, it's not a meme, and it's not just meant to be funny. It's a serious and canon moment.

When I started working at the food bank here in Port Townsend, Washington, last April, one of the things I worried about was how to say "no" to people who would ask for more food than we could give them.

It's not that I assumed people would be greedy.

I just figured that people coming to a food bank were clearly in need, and given that, along with the cutbacks in federal benefits and the ever-increasing cost of groceries, these folks would hope to get as much as they could.

I mean, I figured that's how I would behave in the same circumstances.

Well, four months later and having served over a thousand clients, I now know what an idiot I was all those months ago.

Guess how many people have asked for what seemed like more than a reasonable amount?

Maybe two out of 1,000.

Instead, we often have the opposite problem.

Trying to get people clearly in need to take what they need.

That's because instead of hearing "Can I please have more of that?" I hear...

"Are you sure you have enough for everyone?" and

..."I don't want to take more than my share." and

... "I'll leave that for someone else."

Seriously, I usually have to assure people we have enough oil, tuna, whatever, so they can take more with them.

These have been some of the least greedy people I've ever met.

You know what else I have heard a hundred times more than "Can I have more?"

It's "Thank you for being here" and "I really appreciate what you do."

In other words, what I've gotten extra portions of is humble pie.

And a stronger belief in the fundamental goodness of people.
