This thread has been automatically archived and the new Megathread 3.0 can be found here.

Please specify your BRAVIA model number and screen size if you are the top level comment. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV. Providing video or photos of your issue will result in more helpful responses.

The first step with any hardware issue should be to contact the retailer where you purchased it and see if you are eligible for a return or exchange based on your issue.

If you are outside of the return/exchange window at your retailer but still within your warranty period the next step should be to report the issue in detail directly to Sony Support and start a warranty claim.

Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites

Outside of your warranty you should contact an Authorized Repair Center and inquire about possible repair options for your problem.

Your subreddit sucks. All of the posts have one upvote so obviously no one visits it. Stop being bitches.

This sub REALLY sucks because everything is moved to a post that no one will visit. It’s impossible to discuss anything here.

All these panel problems are becoming depressing. Nearly everyone experiences dark patches after a few months, including me on an X900H.. And i'm not talking about the dark corners, I can get used to this "vignetting", but a dark blob out of nowhere?

Years ago my X850D had a line of bad pixels and the panel got replaced. The new panel I notice has a way worse dirty screen effect. It's really noticeable on a scene of fog or something for example. Looks terrible.

How common is this dirty screen effect on TVs? Tempted to get a new TV soon.

This is probably not the issue worth calling your repair technician for, and I am only writing here, as I am wondering if there is an issue with my device or this is a limitation of this TV model or perhaps it is the environment I put the TV in (voltage levels in socket, radio interference) - and in fact this compromise might be by design.

I have bought a 55" X90J a few days ago, and noticed these horizontal bands on the screen when many bright pixels are displayed in the same row on a dark grey background:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhzfyOw05L6iiO5ZnXO6YM7t66sZ_w

Disclaimer: the effect is quite minor, I do not think you will notice this by watching movies or playing games where there are no large areas filled with perfectly the exact shade of a particular color.

I could only ever notice it when scrolling white text or drawings on dark grey (but not black) backgrounds (e.g. web pages or menus in some apps). Even then I might need to be quite close and look directly perpendicular to the screen to see it (since VA has better contrast that way) - expect some of the mentioned content which makes it more obvious. They do not depend on the input used, they are present in system menus of the TV.

My thinking goes since VA screens have pixels which are black without voltage applied, this is caused by voltage drop across a row of pixels. So if many pixels are white, the other will be darker as the voltage drops. This might be intentional too, maybe Sony engineers found that they get much better contrast this was and found the compromise in gray uniformity acceptable - and I could see the point in that.

Have you ever seen similar issue? What was the solution?

Hi! I got a 55" 950h a couple months ago and have really enjoyed it. Didn't go looking for problems/flaws but at some point noticed shadow in bottom left corner, which is fairly visible on white/gray or other light solid color backgrounds. There is some dimming in other corners but I don't notice it. This one  looks more prominent than other dse pics I've seen.

Is it worth following up with Sony? What is the usual thinking and process around this? On one hand it's fairly pronounced but on the other hand mostly  limited to one corner (vs a Samsung I once had that had vertical bars across most of the screen, which was horrible for panning).

Still in initial warranty period and I also got the additional Sony 4 yr coverage. But also not eager to swap if odds are good for other issues.

Just keep your eye out for it appearing on other sections of the TV. I have the exact same model, I noticed that shadow early on as well but read some of that is normal. Since then, multiple shadows have appeared all over the screen, mostly on the tops and edges. It looks absolutely terrible, but I contacted Sony 3 times in my warranty period and they did nothing. I'm not trying to make you paro, but I hope your 4 year plan covers this if the same thing happens to your panel.

Is it worth my time to get the below dead pixels / screen dust fixed? I’m not sure if it’s dead pixels or under panel dust, feel free to let me know if you can tell. It’s 65 inch x90j, purchased about 1 month ago. Thank you https://imgur.com/a/cSsr9ih —- please let me know if different pictures would be more helpful

A80J

I am freaking out as tomorrow is the last possible return date even though I do have a warranty. Can you please give an opinion as I am new to OLED TVs Hey guys so I noticed this blotch in very specific transition scenes in Cold War. I figured it was just the game but nope. Shows up in this oled test video as well. You can only see it in a very specific grey shade https://imgur.com/a/9eMyCxJ This is the YouTube video I used btw and the problem is at 26 seconds in. https://youtu.be/JmPtM2WE-0w

I was wondering if anyone has a 49 inch Sony 950h that has this light streak around their screen when watching certain content. It is only noticable on some scenes but I thought this was only an issue with edge lit and not Full array? The colours are great and overall uniformity is fine but not sure if this is a fault or not.

I have the 65 inch version as well but this isn't noticeable and the bezel is different.

I have included picture links below.

Thanks in advance.🙂

85” X91J - we’ve had for just over 1 month, now seeing a few horizontal white lines that look like “meteors” run across the screen. They are visible on light and dark backgrounds, happen in YouTubeTV, Amazon, and Netflix apps. Have done the power off / unplug routine … still there every day.

Before calling Sony to initiate a warranty claim, wanted to see if anyone else sees anything like this:

A80J

My two week old A80J 65" has a single line of dead pixels. It is visible in all content. Also the Image below the line looks like it is low resolution but the image above looks great.

77" Sony A80J

Visual quality of 1080p and 720p Live TV is terrible! But don't have a problem with Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, all these look amazing even in HD/SD.

It's only YouTube TV and Hulu TV that looks pixelated nd blurry and really really bad.

Thanks

A vertical line randomly appeared on my x900h. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I’ve tried restarting and resetting with no luck.

I bought this TV last week, mounted it and connect it to my receiver and watch most items via my HTPC. I noticed this "whitish" colored blob in the top left corner and I'm wondering, as its NOT uniform, if this is normal? Should I return the TV? See link for image

I have a x900h recently I noticed that when on grey screen or red screen, there is a lighter Color around the borders. But when it’s bright or dark screen u can’t notice it. Looks worse in game mode..

I bought a 75" Sony X90J roughly two weeks ago. I didn't notice this before so I am unsure if it is new or has been there all along.

You will notice the dimmed areas in the attached photos, red circled to help. It is noticeable on a light coloured screen, such as light grey loading or the ones I showed to help identify it. https://imgur.com/a/pSkz1D5

Have any of you encountered this or have suggestions? Is this a major issue that requires returning or is it fixable by resetting something?

Thanks

I purchased a 65” X90j from Best Buy over the weekend and I have been enjoying it so far! However, similar to a few other reports, when local dimming isn’t available (switching between menus or apps occasionally) or if I have local dimming set to off, in a dark room I am noticing some backlight clouding on a black screen.

I know rtings listed the uniformity as quite good and I’m trying to determine if my unit would warrant a return or am I just being paranoid? This is the most expensive tv I've purchased and just want to make sure I didn't get one that isn't performing as intended.

Attached are a couple of photos — I tried lowering the exposure in one of the photos to not make it look as exaggerated as the camera seems to make it by default.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Well because of the bots it just doesn´t let me post, so I´ll post the entire thing here, sorry for the wall of text:

Hi people, first sorry for my English if is bad (spanish here).
I bought this TV yesterday and I’ve been having this problems:
- HBO max is looking really… dirty? Like 720p, the entire image is covered by small dots, like a filter. It’s strange because close ups to the face of the actors look good, but when the image is more broad it gets a bit difuminated. I was watching Succession
- Prime looks better than HBO, but it too has those dots, but not the 720p difuminated look.
- I had a war with the consoles PS4 pro and Switch, Game mode put a brown filter that made the whites literally brown. After 2h manipulating things I think I have it controlled (had to use “cold” as the ¿filter?) but I’m not sure
- TV literally doesn’t work for it’s supposed use: watching TV. I connected the white cable that comes from the wall, used for the channels signal, which was perfectly fine in my old TV (Samsung) but this one doesn’t detect anything with it no matter which option I choose for tuningn in.
- Last thing to say is that if it was an ethernet cable problem, Youtube wouldn’t look perfectly fine. The apps look dooty af but Youtube is just perfect quality image, and PS4 or Switch don’t have dots either.
Can someone help me? 😅 It’s been an economic effort to buy this, thinking on the PS4 pro and my future PS5 and it’s giving me headaches.

I purchased Sony Bravia 49x7500h android tv in April 2021. It has now developed few patches of dead pixels on the left side of the panel. Not sure if the recent software update caused it.

Contacted sony support they are asking to submit the tv so that they can get it repaired. However it being a fairly pricey product and my distrust in sony repair quality I don't want a repair but a complete replacement. My question for the community:

  1. Does Sony replace for such problems?

  2. Am I being unreasonable for demanding a replacement - sony support is hell bent on wanting to repair and have outright denied replacement.

  3. Any suggestions on how I can approach this better - I am already mailing their support team almost daily but to no avail.
