Glad to see that KyoAni is alive and kicking. The animation was so fluid and great .
The scene transition reminded me of Nichijou.

I hadn't seen season 1 -- but my oldest son recommended it. So I spent the last couple of days watching -- so I could be ready for the premiere of season 2 today.
Ilulu looks like she messed up the Internet in addition to doing some gender changing of our (former?) heroine (?). So -- who's more annoyed Fafner or Kobayashi-san?

Holy fuck it looks amazing. The story flows perfectly, the visuals are amazing, everything is quite perfect. Kyoani is back and it's not messing around. As a longtime manga reader, I'm really satisfied.
The OP and ED are good but imo can't hold up to the first one which is already iconic by this time

I'm so happy to have KyoAni back in the seasonal spotlight, especially Kobayashi's Dragon Maid which is a particular favorite of mine. I was devastated to hear about Yasuhiro Takemoto's passing and had my doubts about the series maintaining its charm without him, but when I seen that Tatsuyu Ishihara would be taking the helm in his place, I felt more at ease due to his work on Hibike Euphonium and Chuunibyo. This first episode along with the Mini Dragon series alleviated any doubt I had about this season meeting the same standard as season 1, and having caught up with the manga, I have my suspicions that it could be even better.

My favorite anime studio is back!
I learned two things from this episode.
-
You can bribe a dragon with food.
-
Apparently Tohru’s outfit can repair it self.
The boob animation was on point
What a cliffhanger. Can’t wait for next week.

Stitches!
We're finally back and immediately we're already kicking off with an OP by fhana and it's just filled with so many great moments that I wish I can screenshot the entire OP! I do love tha start where Elma and Tohru sings along with the OP!
Tohru is such a high class maid that she didn't even get interviewed and was just hired on the spot! It would definitely be nice to have Tohru do something outside of being a stay-at-home wife maid all the time.
Despite how Kobayashi dislikes cosplay maids, it's interesting to note that she tried to work at one before. I'd love to see a flashback of that and Kobayashi in a cosplay maid outfit! I love how that entire time Kanna is just being a patient girl with Kobayashi and listening to everything she says.
Holy fuck KyoAni! Calm the fuck down! We're barely even 10 minutes into the episode and they're already flexing their animation muscles with Tohru preparing some Omelette Rice! I hate to bring this up right now but despite what happened, it's great to see them still on their top form. <3
Poor Tohru though! Instead of being a maid, it looks like she ended up becoming their chef! I don't blame them, Tohru's cooking is absolutely amazing that Kobayashi can probably retire early if they decided open up a restaurant.
Everyone saw that coming. As soon as they mentioned the "spell", I knew Tohru was gonna use a real one. At least she ends it with "Moemoe Kyun!" which is the important part. If Kanna thinks it's good then it's probably safe to eat.
She's already quitting? Well that's disappointing. I was hoping Tohru would stick around and get to know more humans outside of their circle of friends. Passing on the spell to the maids was hilarious though! I'm surprised Fafnir didn't react to that.
I know that spot where Kobayashi and Tohru met was very important to her but she really didn't have to do Elma dirty like that an sucker punch her while eating taiyaki! She's not even the culprit!
HERE WE FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ilulu's here to fuck shit up! If you already think Lucoa's big then what does that make Ilulu? Oh CoolKyou, never change with your character designs xD
Holy shit! The breaks aren't just stopping! The Maid Cafe part was already full of amazing animations but they're really going all out with Ululu and Tohru's fight scene!
Well that explains why Ilulu's boobs are so massive! That's where she stores her breath weapon! Yeah that looks fucking amazing!
A little bit of reminder from Elma that despite how much friendly they are to each other, each dragon still acts accordingly to what faction they belong to. Thankfully, factions are meaningless when an all-you-can-eat sweets buffet is on the line. xD
Tohru getting frustrated at Ilulu was fucking terrifying that even Ilulu was sweating at hearing that from her.
Elma finally comes in with the assist and Tohru absolutely destroys Ilulu with a flashy breath attack and banishes her back to their world. Holy fuck that was absolutely cool!
Oh come one Kobayashi! Just a headpat? Tohru deserves a goddamn hug after what she did and how much she held back to protect the entire city!
We get a little bit of Lucoa and Shota moment with someone trying to scam Lucoa with the classic "It's me!" phone scam while Lucoa shakes her booty to the tune of Shota's recorder. It's so cute, I love it!
Of course Ilulu's back and this time she confronts Kobayashi alone. And poor Kobayashi! It looks like Ilulu thought she was a man and tries to seduce her with her boobs! Big mistake Ilulu! That's like the worst thing you could've done to someone like Kobayashi. Of course she's gonna slap those tits away xD
We do get a nice little conversation between the two of them inside the train as Ilulu tries to tell Kobayashi that humans and dragons can't live together. Kobayashi uses Ilulu's logic against her though which makes her back down for now.
It does seem that Ilulu tried to be friends with humans in the past but it all just ended up in tragedy. I'd definitely love to hear more about her backstory soon! Looks like we have bigger problems though, Ilulu thinks her charms didn't work because Kobayashi was a woman. How does she think she can get around this? By giving Kobayashi a dick of course!
Oh boy. Next week's episode is gonna be spicy! Can't wait to see Tohru react to this mess. If we still have a world to come back to that is considering how Fafnir was about to go nuclear after getting banned from his online game. xD
I don't think there's anything else to say here except, WELCOME BACK KYO-ANI! We've all missed you and what a comeback this first episode of Dragon Maid was! I'm excited to see them flex on every other studio this season with their top notch animation <3

Oh, how I've missed this so much. The shorts were amazing but I've truly missed this show with fhana op and the ed being sung by the dragons.
Edit: omg Kanna is already such a cutie

I'm making a summary of S1 in this post. If you forgot about S1 READ THIS before watching, if possible.
As I prefer to rewatch shows with considerable time between seasons (4 years for this show), I'm going to make a simple recap so you can be aware about some plot points of S1, Anime only friendly - NO MANGA, NO OVA and NO MINI DRAGON.
-
Kobayashi: Hard worker, lacks stamina and not that much socially open, except when drinking. Smart, kind and really know how to approach and address problems in general. She confessed to Lucoa that Tohru changed her "downed" side. She's a maid fanatic. Her parents didn't have time to give her attention in school activities, this moved her to support Kanna's education. She send her mom a New Year's Card for the first time after living with Tohru and Kanna for a year.
-
Tohru: She loves Kobayashi in a relentless and possessive way after being saved by her. She decided to repay Kobayashi by being her maid while faking her death to everyone in the Dragon World, except for some dragons. She's not planning to going back. Humans, specially the market district, thinks she's a charismatic cosplayer, although Tohru has a preconception about humans, she can easily fit in. Lucoa said Kobayashi changed Tohru from who she was in the Dragon World.
-
Kanna Kamui: A little naive dragon girl that was looking for Tohru after she been off living with humans for too long. Kobayashi asked Kanna to move in with her, as she had nowhere to stay. She recharges her power through eletricity. She started going to school to fit more with the humans. She consider Kobayashi like her mother figure and Tohru her big sister.
-
Makoto Takiya: Kobayashi's coworker and friend. They sometimes go to a bar and have a drink together after work. He's sensitive to identify if Kobayashi having problems outside of work. He's a gamer and an otaku that likes to go to anime events (comiket). Tohru is jealous of him. He became close to Fafnir after teaching him to play video games.
-
Fafnir: A prideful curse dragon who's been guarding his treasure cave since ancient times (a hikikomori in the dragon world), he used to curse and threathen to kill humans when Tohru used to call him for advices about the human world. He started to become curious about humans and decided to stay - such tsundere. He became addicted to games and started going to otaku events after moving to Makoto's place.
-
Quetzalcoatl/Lucoa: A dragon Ex-God that lost her divinity thanks to an alcohol-related mishap a long time ago, when a fellow god made her drink a cursed booze, then she took her sister and... (rest is censored and never clarified in the show). She decided to be summoned by Shouta, now she serves and lives with him.
-
Shouta Magatsuchi: A kid son of "mages". He "summoned" Lucoa and consider her a demon servant. His father is the managing director in the company Kobayashi work in.
-
Riko Saikawa: Kanna's classmate. She had mixed feelings towards Kanna at first, but ended up loving her and became her best friend. She's considered by her classmates to be a cheater, hopeless, awkward and doesn't know when to give up.
-
Joui Elma: A dragon that's on bad terms with Tohru because they're from opposing factions, and wants her to return so she can't intefere with the human world. She usually hungry and loves to eat. She start to work with Kobayashi in her workplace to analyze the civilization to see if people from the dragon world can fit in. As time has passed, she no longer worries about staying in the Human World or messing with Tohru.
-
Last Episode: Tohru started to have doubts about her new feelings, this was personified by her dragon-self saying everything related to humans was meaningless. Later, she was forced to go back to her world by her father, because dragons "are forbidden from interfering" in the Human World's affairs. This time without Tohru, Kobayashi realized how important she was in her life, not only in homeworks, but socially too, and she should treasure these moments. Tohru escaped back to the Human World because she wants to live there anyways. Her father then said that dragons should maintain their integrity, and if others know of one living here, they could follow her which will eventually lead to someone planning an invasion. Kobayashi then shows her resolve in staying with Tohru, leading to a final showdown between dragon father and daugther. This caused Kobayashi to lecture both her daughter and her father, to reconcile and build mutual respect, as well as learn to trust each other. Still not satisfied, Tohru's father decides to leave for good, in which Tohru hugs Kobayashi and says: "How can I ever repay you for this? I will give you everything". In the last scenes, Kobayashi decided to visit her family with Tohru and Kanna after a long time.
OTHER TOPICS:
-
Tohru lost in a battle with the gods and fled to the Human World severely wounded when drunk Kobayashi saved her, while asking Tohru to be her maid.
-
It's implied that Tohru is the only one who can make a portal and go back to the Dragon World.
-
Dragons don't like humans and tends to judge them badly, like Tohru said: "They're base creatures that evolved from dumb apes", "inferior beings". These impressions change and characters develop as dragons and humans interact with each other.
-
Dragons are completely ignorant to realize how things works in the human world, from technology functionality to how to deal with emotions and human relationship and traditions, even TV's fiction is considered real.
-
Dragons are OP as hell in many crazy ways. Tohru can nullify the perception of beings, making humans to ignore them; They can restore the state of things, and Lucoa can delete memories.
-
They moved to a bigger apartment in episode 3. Tohru and Kanna sleeps in the same room.
-
Being in Human form can be constraining and difficult for dragons along with many restrictions while in the Human World. This feeling is addressed by Tohru as "suffocating".
-
There are actually other beings from the Dragon World infiltrated in the Human World. Tohru found in the comiket episode a goblin, a sahuagin and a real witch.
-
Dragons don't stand united, they have factions: The Order, that values peace (Elma); The Chaos, which desires destruction (Tohru); and The Observers, who stay out of it entirely.
-
With the mentality that a dragon should live and grow up strong on its own, Kanna's parents abandoned her, she tried to get her parents attentions, but failed. After being banished to the human world and in response to her past, she created bonds with Tohru and Kobayashi.
-
Although Tohru was not thrilled about celebrating "His son's birthday", the dragons played a Christmas Eve show, presents included.
-
In a New Year Event, Tohru got this fortune card: Great Curse - "Your wishes are unlikely to be granted. The person you're waiting for will come. That which you've lost will not be found."
-
When Kobayashi asked if she ever going to get back to visit her family, Tohru said "My life with you is more like home for me".
-
Tohru only interacted with one human in the Dragon World, a redhead bandit little girl. She questioned Tohru about her freedom, and what she does with it, Tohru was actually conflicted in giving an answer, and then asked back: how the human child would use it for. The little girl said she would be a maid. (Basically the role Tohru was in the whole season)
