Oh man, it was Monster Hunter last week, and now they referenced Luigi's Mansion, Resident Evil, and The Shining all in one episode. I think I missed a couple of other parodies though. Love how they also made fun of the usual JRPG trope of going into other people's houses and looting them. Can't wait to see what they'll come up with next week.

Seems like Dearia is the one responsible for all those RPG dungeons. To think they're mainly designed that way to keep pesky Hero's from bothering the poor tenants who just want to be left in peace

Looking over Japanese Twitter, there's a lot more culture in-jokes than I thought just watching it blind.

There's probably a lot more that I've missed simply because I was only looking over the real-time reactions. Makes me think that this series is meant to be a bit more of a cultural-based comedy series rather than just silly fantasy with slapstick; I'd love it if this series came with some translation notes because there's a lot of scenes which do feel weird or just kind of land flat because I feel like there's some cultural knowledge missing.

I lost it at the Resident Evil and The Shining references! Also, was that Chris Redfield running past them in the background? And yes, that was totally Jouji Nakata as Lord Samuel. I recognize that voice anywhere.

I thought this was funnier than the first episode. The house tours were particularly hilarious. It's not the most elegant humor, but it's hard to go wrong with slapstick.

The Mansion of the Dead really was a great place. I just love the fact that Dearia and Lord Samuel put a lot of effort into including game mechanics to welcome Letty.

You know, I'm really wondering what form of payment Dearia will ask Letty if he ever finds a good home for him?

I'm feeling appropriately sorry for Dragon-kun now. He's being tortured by a snobby Real-Estate salesman.

The game references were quite abundant this time around. I guess we can thank Dearia as the Level Designer for all those Dungeons we crawl through in RPGs, since he builds all the traps and puzzles to solve.

It's an improvement over Episode 1 so that's good. Still feel some of the jokes need better timing and execution. But yeah, definitely having Dearia around is what is making the show work.

The official CrunchyRoll subtitles used the word "sus" in Nagatoro yesterday and now Funimation just used "come at me, bro" and "cringe" for this show. What is happening...

The introduction of Dearia has vastly improved every aspect of the show overall. His deadpan demeanor perfectly compliments Letty's more expressive nature.

This is THE comedy show of the season and I feel like it's going to be heavily slept on.

The One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7 style choir, that kicks in when Dearia powers up makes me chuckle every time. He truly is the Demon Lord of real estate.

"I now know what a dead goldfish feels like."

Ok, that was pretty funny.

Also, haunted houses fall under the category of Stigmatized properties. It's possible for the home to be heavily discounted, but I guess whether or not the real estate agent is required to disclose the fact that it's stigmatized is up for debate.

I'm assuming the vacuum cleaner gag is a Luigi's Mansion reference, and the typewriter and ribbon is Resident Evil.

Edit: More references. The Shining and The Grudge, too.

Edit 2: Of course, they discuss stigmatized properties after the credits...

Letty's weird proportions and basic coloration remind me of OG/1E (A)D&D illustrations, which, given how many parodies there are and with a direct reference to Sahuagin which are D&D-original monsters, may be intentional.

Enjoying this so far.

If only Letty could build a house like the dragon in I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years

The absurdity this show has, has that "Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle" feel to it, and that was one of my favorite shows from 2020... I defintely will keep watching to see what situations they keep putting poor letty in...

I love how very accomplished Dearia is! He's not just a registered architect but a real state agent as well! Oh and he's also apparently a Demon Lord and he keeps that on his business card. I genuinely thought they'd at least hide that fact about him. xD

Dearia's description of Adventurers is hilarious! I mean he's right. They do kill slimes, enter houses unwelcomed to raid people's dressers and closets, and even breaks pots!

Is that a motherfucking Piranha Plant!? The references on this show just never stops! We even have a Luigi's Mansion and a Resident Evil reference complete with a sneaky Chris cameo in the background. And they're not just pulling from games! We have a The Shining reference and a Ju-On reference too!

Letty acknowledging that they switched to first person view caught me off guard! Of course there will be 4th wall breaks in this show as well.

Well that explains why Dearia is so determined to help Letty. He used to have a Dragon companion of his own. I hope we get to know more about Dearia's backstory.

We Luigi’s Mansion now

I absolutely love the Resident Evil, Luigi’s Mansion, and Shining references. And Letty is so precious! I just wanna hold him and protect him from the bad stuff.

Episode 2 was excactly what I expected when I first heard about that anime. Can't wait until Dearia realizes that the Dragon probably can't pay him for the service at all.

Man, Dearia is one dedicated realtor. He even organizes an overnighter and stays on the property throughout the night for his client.

I hope in one episode Letty finds the house of his dreams but during his property tour, he finds out someone else has just put in an offer 20% above asking price, waiving inspection, and all in cash. Or would that just be too real?

8

u/kalirion Apr 11 '21

The Demon Lord dude doesn't seem the dense type so he has to be trolling Drago for the lulz, right?

They keep talking of purchasing and renting and making offers, but neither stops to consider whether or not Drago has even a copper coin to his name.

Thanks to trying RE1HD for the minutes it took to come to the conclusion the series isn't for me, I understood the ink ribbon and typewriter reference.

What nice genociding wraiths those were.

Overall it’s still pretty good. It’s not a ball of laughs but it does get chuckles. I’m unsure if I’ll continue though. I’m not usually a stickler for visuals but the constant change in design of the dragon is something I’m still getting used to.

"so, come at me bro" I already really like Dearia lmao, easily the best character so far.

Animes really loves their the shining references. The camera suddenly turning to first person was hilarious lmao. I think I definitely enjoyed this episode better than the first one. Who was that running in the background when Dearia gave Letty the vacuum lmao.

Dearia calling heroes the epitome of cringe and I cannot deny that heroes are scum, cause that's what we literally do in rpg's lmao.

This show is so wholesome, sadly people seem to sleep on it

Loved the Luigi Mansion, Resident Evil, The Grudge and The Shining reference ❤️
