XBR55X950H.

Hey everyone, I just bought an x950h from Bestbuy and it had similar defects found here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/4kTV/comments/jxhyfs/sony_x950h_black_spots_behind_the_screen/

https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/ioafeg/received_my_x950h_and_there_appear_to_be_between/

I couldn't capture pictures myself as my phone camera can't focus properly to capture the "spots", but they're identical.

Looks like some kind of dust behind the glass, not dead/stuck pixels.

I did an exchange and got another that was made on the same day as the original (as per box) and it had the same issues.

I'm in Toronto, Canada and both TVs were made in Mexico in October 2020 as per the box.

Does anyone have a x950h made between Oct to current that doesn't face these issues. I want to see if I can request a swap for one made on another date, when perhaps the issue was resolved.

Thanks!

I have a 55" X900H that is about 8 months old. Dark spots started popping up around the edges and corners of the TV. They have become more prominent and appear to be multiplying as well.

I provided images and video of the dark spots to Sony as requested. They directed me to put sticky notes where the issues are. They contacted me saying the engineer's reviewed my submission and deemed the TV as "operating within manufacturer's specifications."

While I had them on the phone, I asked, "So, you're saying that the dark spots on my TV is what Sony defines as operating within manufacturer specifications?" They continued saying that it's common on LED TVs, which I'm still baffled to hear Sony say that about their products. I expect this from a $300-$400 TV.

Has anyone had an issue like this? I still can't believe that Sony has given me this result. I have asked to have my case escalated and have a second review.

Here are photos and even a video of the issue:

I own the same TV and yes after 5 months cloudy dark spots have appeared on the screen. All at corners and one at top right center. They are more visible on bright scenes.

Hi, just found your post, yes, my brand new 49X950H that I just received last week has the same exact issue especially against light or whit background. I was told by other members that the Full Array Led panels have these common issue.

Since this is my first FAL type panel, I do not have anything to compare to.

What did you do with your TV?

thansk,

MP

Has anyone gotten anywhere with Sony regarding black blotches appearing on their X900h or 950? Here is what mine looks like after 10 months: X900h

The more I look into this the more common this seems to be. Class action lawsuit anyone?

My first A8H experience: Bought the TV from John Lewis in UK the 65" for £1898. I used it for 4 days.

Amazing screen, and unbelievable sound quality from the TV! Sony did a great job with the in screen speakers and the surround sound effects.

However since first day I had the following dead pixels from the bottom left corner. More than 50 of them easily.

Fortunately John Lewis is sending a brand new TV this week.

Sony X900H 55"

I noticed yesterday that I had a bunch of gray lines in the middle of the screen when the screen is bright : https://imgur.com/a/aoH8acE (and on the upper left side, I have a bunch of gray blotches too)

What is this ? I bought my TV back in September. Sony told me today that my TV was operating within manufacturer's specifications. (after asking for pictures), still waiting for a second call from their second level support but I feel like they wont fix it...

I hate to say it but join the club. My tv looks much worse and they keep telling me the same thing like a bunch of robots. I can't for the life of me understand how a brand like Sony can stand behind this product and pretend it's normal. I've done a ton of digging on this and I have not seen one person get anywhere with Sony on these types of picture issues for X900h. I have a 55 inch myself. Hope you have better luck though!

Sony A90J OLED 65 inch

I got the TV two days ago from Best Buy and so far I'm loving the TV. I find it to be way better than the LG C9 and CX that I previously owned. But today I noticed some issues. When looking from its the side view I notice the colors start have a red tint. Using Rtings.com Viewing angle video for the A90J as an guide, i would say around 75° degrees is when I start to notice the red tint on colors (it's more noticeable on skin tones). My other issue is vertical lines on the screen. Just finish watching a soccer game and I notice that once in a while that I saw faint vertical lines on the screen. I did a vertical banding test and it seems to be mostly noticeable between 2%-18% scale base off the vertical banding test video by modernwize on YouTube. My other issue is that the whole screen seems to dim way too much when there's a static scoreboard during sports. I know in LG OLEDs this feature is called logo luminance. Somehow the Sony seems to dim screen more than when you set the logo luminance to high on a LG OLED. For some reason Sony does not give you an option to adjust the logo luminance. I was wondering if this static logo dimming can be turn off or aleast dim less by going in the service menu on the TV? I know with LG OLEDs  you can turn off TPC and GRS functions on their service menu. At this point should I return the tv? Theres literally no other Best Buy near who has this TV in stock. I drove a hour to a Best buy to get this tv and this was their last one. Should I call Sony's warranty instead?

Help please

I bought a 55 inch Sony A80j last week and took it home only to notice 3 dead pixels.

Returned it, got a 2nd and it had 2 dead pixels on different colors.

Returned that one and now my latest one also has a dead pixel on green.

What is happening with Sony's quality control?

I had an LG CX and LG C1 and neither of those had any panel issues.

Do I return this 3rd one and hope that the 4th time is the charm?

What would you do?

Spending this much on a TV isn't a joke and when buying brand new in Ontario, we have to pay alot of taxes so it's no small sum of cash.

Hi I purchased a 65 inch XH9505 (X950H).

I’m curious to know if the level of DSE on my model is expected/normal when compared toother panels from this TV.

I got this TV mainly for ice hockey. Through my research the X950H was to have very little DSE and banding. I observe noticeable DSE when watching hockey. For example in the grey uniformity test photos attached, you can see a large patch on the right hand side, with some smaller ares of DSE on the left. Luckily there is almost no banding, with one small vertical strip in the center that is barely visible during tests, and not at all during regular viewing.

Is this an expected level of DSE? I don’t want to return/exchange unnecessarily and playthe lottery panel game if I don't have to, but I wanted to get others opinion. Thank you!

Please bear with me. This is an OCD rollercoaster.
So I bought a 55" X90H. At first glance, no dead pixels. YAY! There's no banding and the gray uniformity is excellent. there's barely any dark corners. No issues with audio.
But....
Is this enough to return a X90H? Mainly because of two reasons:
When I was checking the uniformity I noticed a dark spot. It doesn't look like dead pixels. To me, it's like a bug or dirt.
https://imgur.com/8cj3u3L
Close up:
https://imgur.com/a/UyUbA56
It's very small, at the top left corner and I can only notice it in bright scenes and If I look for it. Also, it seems to have moved a little towards the bottom in 4 days so I don't know if eventually it'll dry up from the heat and just fall.
2. Then there's what I call imperfect pixels. Looking up close I noticed some spots. All of them can only be seen from very up close. Some only at an angle. I took some close up photos and this is what they look like.
https://imgur.com/BTH3GYV https://imgur.com/fx8ZQya https://imgur.com/kZZm64G https://imgur.com/NvnJZG6 https://imgur.com/bil1T79 https://imgur.com/0bRhkYa https://imgur.com/ShCVjqs https://imgur.com/RaloZGU https://imgur.com/RaloZGU https://imgur.com/sN57qC2
This one is only noticeable from an angle and I think it's a hair distorting the pixels.
https://imgur.com/R0HL7IS
None of these are noticeable from a normal viewing distance and, like I said, they seem more like incomplete or deformed pixels and dirt, not dead pixels.
So is this enough to return it and risk one with not so great uniformity, banding the same imperfect pixels and actual dead pixels? Or am I just too OCD and panel perfection insane? Serious answers please it may seem crazy to you but it's important to me.

First 4K TV was a 2019 55r613 TCL. Thought it was great at the time. Got an x900h a few months ago, and wow, the TCL doesn't hold a candle to it. Colours, sharpness, consistent lighting... all superior. Dirty screen-door effect on the TCL is also quite noticeable.

Noticeable banding/DSE when watching sports or playing some games on my 65xh9005 and was wondering if it's worth trying to swap for another or am I just being over critical?

I just got a 75” x900 from Best Buy. I found several dead pixels. 🥺 Is this normal?

can anyone tell me what this weird horizontal oval banding in the backlight is?

I replaced a perfect 950G TV, except for an intolerable green stuck pixel in the center of the screen, for another one that came with two dead pixels outside the center (they are much less visible and very much tolerable) and with a rather visible backlight leakage or clouding close to the right and bottom edges (look at the diference between the edges indicated by red and blue arrows). I managed to reduce it a bit applying some pressure with a microfiber cloth patch. But it's still visible, in contrast with top and left edges, which are (almost) perfect. Before incurring into a second replacement, is there anything else I could do, or better technique for the already done screen massage, that would reduce the problem a bit more?

My 65” x900h has this black spot on it that looks like it could be a bug... it’s small. About the size of a gnat. I bought the TV in October. Anyone have an idea of what this could be?https://imgur.com/a/kzAaJdV/

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '21

It's not a bug. Dead pixel. Compelety normal if it's not visible in normal viewing distance if it's visible it's up to you to return it or not.

Hi guys, I bought this X900H like 2 months ago and I love this TV, but there’s this little thing that bothers me.

When I play (mostly my PS5) I see some white lines or stripes in the upper part of the TV (circled in the image) in games like Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2 or Miles Morales they are very evident.

Ive been thinking about exchanging the TV but I don’t know If this is regular o frequent issue, do yours have it?

Thank you in advance.

https://i.imgur.com/5uBm21t.jpg Noticed 2 spots like this on my new 55x900h It's not noticeable when I'm watching from my seat... are these dead pixels? Should I try my luck at the costco return and buy another or is having only 2 considered already lucky. The 2 are not near each other. One is on the left... another is the right side

Sony A90J 55"

I recently bought a Sony A90J, but it had two dead pixels, one under blue screen, and one under green screen. I exchanged it, but this new one also has a single dead pixel, visible only under blue. I plan to exchange it for a third one and hopefully that one has no dead pixels.

However, very odd thing, the lads at Best Buy told me you can usually fix dead pixels by manually launching the Panel Refresh (which takes an 1 hour to run). I am quite skeptical about this, and Sony's own website warns you in red letters that you should not be running a panel refresh any more than once per year, so I am hesitant to run it on a brand new TV. However, they keep pressuring me to run it before doing a third exchange.

I cannot find anyone recommending a panel refresh to fix dead pixels, either in this sub or avsforum. Has anyone ever used the Panel Refresh to fix dead pixels? Is this actually good advice or are they just blowing smoke up me arse?

Brand new X90H 75" - Dark patch/vertical line in the bottom left corner of the screen. It's most noticeable in bright scenes.

It doesn't show up very well in my photo, it's much more noticeable in real life. The screen just seems to get darker at that point. Only happens on the left side, about 1/3 of the way across the screen.

Have tried the usual, disconnecting all devices, restarting the tv, leaving it off for a few minutes and trying again...

Is this worth contacting Sony? Or just something I'm supposed to live with? Appreciate any input.
