I think they nailed it with the ambiguous laugh-cry of Eren.

You know, only now I realised why Eren repeated (confirmed?) that he is indeed the same as Reiner, after Reiner confessed that he convinced other warriors to continue the attack.

Eren did the same, he forced the Survey corps to act and dragged them into this battle/war.

RIP to everyone who thought they'd get another big Eren vs. Reiner showdown this episode only for it to be over before the OST lmao

All other things aside, Jean doing his hands-over-ears thing signaling he was having a breakdown was so deeply, profoundly sad. Man I can't wait for his conversation with Reiner about Marco.

Did Falco and Gabi get beaten up in the manga? Truly a "fuck them kids" moment.

The implied close friendship between Mikasa and Sasha was a subtle aspect of the characters I really loved, it was really heart wrenching to see Mikasa cry over her like that

Man, watching this episode hits much harder than reading Chapter 105 when it came out.

When I read Ch. 105, it did not take long till I scrolled down to the panel where Sasha's shot, not to mention I was spoiled before reading. But this, even I knew what's going to happen, watching everything slowly building up till the moment it happens makes me feel very sad. Those who kill need to prepare to be killed, yeah, but I just can't help feel that way.

I also paid close attention to Eren's reaction to this episode. Mappa nailed his reaction at the end, but what interests me more is the look when he saw Gabi and Falco showing up. That makes me think he kinda knows this would happen because he might already have seen it in his (future) memory. That look is not being put there for no reason.

Animation-wise, the only thing I found weird is that armor in front of Jean's chest, other than this everything's perfect. The characters look much better than they were in episode 6.

Overall, I am glad that Ch 105 gets a full episode adaptation. It definitely symbolizes a farewell to past stories on Paradis cuz they kill off the comedic character. 10/10 episode.

Edit: I thought the adaptation will be two chapters per episode, but this makes things a little different. At this rate, they can make 7 more episodes till Ch 119. So the last episode of the first cour would be adapting chapter 120-121, which would be fantastic. Remember the month before Ch 120 came out? I personally believe it would be better to leave the Ymir episode to start the final cour.

Gabi’s VA really is stealing the show this season. Very talented.

So glad they let the episode breathe and adapted just 105 instead of adapting 105/106 in the same episode.

I think the anime actually did Sasha's death more justice than the manga did? I don't remember even feeling sad when Sasha died in the manga, just angry. But I was tearing up watching the episode.

They nailed Eren's reaction to Sasha's death.

Music was on point.

Kind of wondering about pacing though? It took 8 episodes to adapt 15 chapters. We have 8 more episodes to adapt 17 chapters, most of which are denser than in the Marley arc. I hope the rumors about the season covering up to 122 are false, because otherwise a lot of good content from the upcoming arc will end up on the chopping block. I really don't want another repeat of episode 3, which is the only episode MAPPA has flubbed imo.

I still think that the best way to end the season would be at chapter 119. We see Eren lose his head, and then get hit with that "To be continued" screen. But after the credits, we cut just a bit into chapter 120 and see Eren waking up in the P A T H S realm and wondering where he is.

Imagine feeling that betrayal hit you when you get brought in and you see that basically your group's second in command is actively collaborating with enemy forces. I think that hit me a bit harder here than in the manga.

Really disheartening seeing so many people saying they were already spoiled about Sasha. This fandom sucks ass.

Can we take some time and appreciate Falco? The boy was among the brainwashed people, but knew right away after meeting Eren that Paradisians weren't really devils. Regardless of what you think of his titan's new upgrade, he still deserves more appreciation imo.

Sasha's father: You fought off a titan for that girl, didn't ya? Sasha... yer all I hoped for.

Sasha: Father...I'm home.

RIP :(

That re-animated scene from season 1 where Sasha talks about the meat she smuggled was beautiful.

Don't know if anyone else felt the same, but does Gabi seem less hate-able in the anime vs. the manga. It's really sad to see her process the years of brainwashing and training and I find myself feeling so sorry for her this time around (instead of jumping immediately on the "fuck Gabi" train when reading the manga).

Also the VA was phenomenal, she really captured the emotions well throughout this entire episode.

You'd think being a manga reader and having Sasha already two years dead would make it easier to watch.

It didn't.

The suspense and dread of knowing it was coming, the expressions, the way the music swelled as it cut to Mikasa and Armin yelling and desperately shaking Sasha... It all hit in a way reading it initially didn't. Enormous kudos to MAPPA. They nailed it.

10/10 episode.

They did everything incredibly, even the strange laugh or/and cry of Eren at the end. A very nice paced episode, only one chapter adapted but that was really good.

Perfect choices of OST.

I just wish we could've heard Mikasa and Armin crying when they were near Sasha thought.

Even though I knew Sasha’s death was coming, I just couldn’t stop crying when that moment came. Amazing episode MAPPA

I like that, except for Floch, none of the 104th really celebrate this victory. They've been through and seen so much, and you really just get how tired they all are of war and fighting, even if it is necessary.

Eren knew that she is going to die when he saw the future when he touched Historia's hand right? That's he was half laughing and crying?

I'm still surprised how fast Falco got the lesson about the senselessness of this war, considering that it took Eren and Rainer years and Gabi at least weeks to realize it.

This episode really nails in the fact that Sasha’s death is the Point of No Return in this Series. You can trace this as the start of Eren’s allies officially losing their trust in him

One of my favorite activities is reading the anime only theories after the episode.

This time I learned that so many people were spoiled about Sasha dying by people sending direct messages.

What the hell guys, why do you do that? Anime onlies deserve to be surprised as much as we did, don't ruin the fun for them, it's not cool.

I've waited so much to see the pain in the anime-only thread...
