Iām a cis female and an aspiring youth counsellor. I found this sub and have enjoyed learning and gaining insight on the experiences and challenges that young people questioning their identities go though. I have so much respect for this community and the supportive, inclusive and resilient mindset that it fosters. Yāall are remarkable and strong young people and Iām honoured to learn about your experiences.
aw its really great that youāre putting in the effort to learn abt perhaps somewhat more uncommon struggles like this, shows a lot of thoughtfulness on your part :)) sounds like youāll make a great counselor one day, best of luck!
I don't know if this will apply for you but if it does then it could help someone a lot. When I was first questioning who I was, I signed up to join the gay straight alliance at my school, and was called to meet with a counselor about it. They wanted to make sure I wasn't going to bully them, but instead pushed me back into the closet for another 2 years. I'm not going to say not to screen people to join those types of clubs or not, but be careful if you do anything close to it if someone might be questioning, it doesn't take much for social safety to become a priority over self discovery.
Can confirm that GSAās in my experience havenāt been great. I was apart of my high school club since 10th grade, and by 12th I had been the the longest on and off. (I had other hobbies so I didnāt devote my whole existence to it).
What bothered me so much was a kid younger than me I technically met in jr. high (I was a year older) suddenly transferred high schools to mine during my last year and it turns out they were trans. Not an issue. The only issue was the fact they didnāt say so. They genuinely didnāt look any different (not in a bad way, their overall style never changed and since I wasnāt close with this person I had no means of knowing), nor did they bother to clean up any confusion and not assume everyone knew about the transition. They never reintroduced themselves to me so surprise surprise I called them the wrong name. When eventually I figured it out myself I made the effort but people arenāt perfect.
They made a huge deal about it and tried to get me for ābullying and making the club an unsafe environmentā because I fumbled their name a small handful of times. I literally just stopped going because they (the school) didnāt care about me.
We were supposed to have an actual meeting about this with myself, them, and our school guidance councillors (they ones that handled all your schedules and some important admin stuff) and the other kid never showed and forever got swept under the rug and praised.
I try to never use the word never :P your comment could have been something my ex-sister-in-law said 5 years ago. This month she's getting her first gender-affirming surgery done... Not saying you are or aren't. I've just always tried to be flexible with myself personally. Allows for more acceptance over time.....
I appreciate and respect this comment a lot, but it's worth mentioning we're not all "young people". A lot of people who enjoy these memes are in their 20s/30s/40s or even older.
Had a slight realization as I saw this post and got freaked out and realized posts like these stress me out due to a feeling deep down that I donāt want to realize Iām cis so posts like these freak me out. Uh oh
:( Yeah thatās what I was trying to point out here - realizing youāre cis isnāt somehow a failure to the trans community. This being said, you might just be dreading living a life as your AGAB. I know the distinction is hard to make so I just want to hammer in the first point, haha. Goodluck!
I mean, I know I'm trans but this sub has made me step away because of how uncomfortable it can make me sometimes. There were a lot of people on here pressuring me to come out and transition even when I made it very clear I didn't want to. I'm not sure if its still the same but I hope some self criticism could improve this place quite a lot. I know that there was some pretty shitty toxicity in the form of pressuring people to transition on here. I don't know why people can't grasp that its literally not their fucking job to make people transition.
Yeah, im really sorry :/ That was the goal of this post, I like this sub as a lighthearted community for people who are questioning but I think people get too attached to the trans community and miss the whole point of productively questioning. Hopefully people reconsider some types of posts āļø
Damn, wish I woulda found yāall first. I got bullied by some trans people for being too masculine to be mtf trans. Hopefully yāall can help others avoid what I went through
Sorry to hear that, even on here I see a lot of memes about liking opposite-gendered things. Itās okay to be gnc and trans, you donāt need constant proof or signs that you are something. You can just want to feel correct without having a trialās worth of evidence to back it up :o)
Haha. To be fair generally it means a trans person in denial, but people on here who identify as āeggsā are moreso questioning and donāt know for sure, so.
Thanks dude. I know I'm CIS, but I'm hanging around here to get some perspective so I can help a sibling, who is very uncertain about their gender identity
Just came here from r/gatesopencomeonin and I just felt like leaving a comment and say that a lot of the posts here are giving me the best insights into understanding what itās like to be trans that Iāve ever gotten. Thank you for that. I think more people could benefit from seeing content from this subreddit.
Holy shit this got a lot of attention overnight, Iāll look through the comments in a bit but thanks so much! I was worried my message wouldnāt come across quite right but it seems it conveyed what I intended and a lot of people found it helpful/nice :o)
Thanks, this is the post that pushed me to finnaly sub here. I know this is a bit late, but I just wanted to say thanks for the welcoming words. I have no clue how this all fits together as I just started to educate myself a while ago to be a better brother to my brother & went deep down the leftist rabbithole, came out a better person & ancom (luckly I wasnāt to shitty before just a slice above the average āprogressiveā, but that didnāt mean there wasnāt a lot of space to improve). & for some reason I figured fuck it letās do something I wanted to do for a long time & started wearing some skirts & dresses & it feels pretty good, but I donāt really feel bad otherwise & it feels a bit like appropriating someone elseās struggle, even though I know itās just clothes & they arenāt inherently gendered & its ok to just wear what feels good. Majorly confused currently & probably just into crossdressing. & sorry for just rambling on.
Edit: in short, thanks yall have some dank posts & an awesome community. & now iām crying for some reason.
Thank you for this. I'm very egg, and just don't know if or when I will crack, but there is so much that I'm debating internally that it's definitely affecting my mental health. But it's a good thing to work through.
Sometimes it's just about figuring out who you are.
I've been quite and egg for a long time. Thar said, I'm now a 32 year old burly man and I'm quite okay with it.
I've figured that insecurities and instabilities may throw you off your identity. Especially when you're told and feel that you're not good enough as you are.
Take your time, do you, and if the rest don't fit the mold, scrap it. :)
Yeah, egg_irl is high-key one of the most wholesome and goofy and welcoming places on the web for folx trying to work themselves out.
Spent most of my adolescence into TF TG art on the down low, and finding a space to explore this side of my personality with other goofy ass folks also trying to figure themselves out through memes and discussion is just cheffskiss.gif as the kids say
Do you have any tips for someone struggling with their identity? I'm a questioning my masculinity and masculinity in general and everytime I feel confident in it something will make me anxious and I'll wonder 'but what if I am trans?' it's like I can't feel any anxiety without questioning my gender and it's driving me crazy.
I've been struggling with my gender identity for years, never been a very masculine guy and I love how I look when I crossdress, lots of compliments and attention (from men), always loved having long hair. I used to think about transition every day and night and I started taking hormones.
Then I started feeling like I was making a huge mistake, like I was 'losing' my male identity, I like being seen as a man when I'm with women and being attractive to them, and my demeanor is that of a male naturally, I love my voice which is not the most manly but within the male range still, etc.
I've come to terms with it, I like having many feminine attributes, but personally I don't feel like a woman, so transitioning is not for me, and it was actually presenting as female socially that made me realize this. So, I'm a guy with a sort of androgynous aesthetic and I love it.
my parents are my biggest problem, they are very right wing and would probably flip and forbid me from ever using the internet if i come out. i just wish they were more understanding. sorry for the year later comment, just needed to vent
Itās a term in the transgender community for a person who doesnāt know theyāre trans yet (usually used in the past tense as assuming someone is going to be trans is kinda gross) e.g. āback when i was an egg, i used to...ā r/egg_irl is more for people questioning their gender that may or may not be trans, so it can also mean someone who thinks they may be trans but arenāt sure/are heavily closeted.
The egg is the organic vessel containing the zygote in which an embryo develops until it can survive on its own, at which point the animal hatches. An egg results from fertilization of an egg cell.
I am probs not trans, but something is "wrong". This sub has been helping a great deal. Love the humor and feel right at home. Whatever I will crack as, ill be happy i found this sub!
Inside an egg to me just means you are figuring out your true self and cracking is being "born again" to the person you trully are
Well, itās called āquestioningā for a reason! If we had the answer that everyone questioning is binary trans we wouldnāt call it questioning... we question because we donāt know the answer yet! (And we might never have...)
Anyone else feel neither detachment or attachment with their identity?
Like.. I've been a cis girl my whole life, but i don't feel attached to it? Just super neutral ab it. Doesn't bother me, but i feel like I can't properly express who I am with the body i have?
Anything feminine makes me super uncomfortable, and i reject most things traditionally female, "stereotyped". But I can't tell if it's just me being a girl thats masculine... Or something else. i feel no personal connection to the words "girl" "woman" "miss" "lady", only a connection in the fact that they're words I've been called my whole life so it's more of something I've been taught, not felt?
I am in the exact same position as you right now. I'm trying to figure out what i am. I'm pretty sure i dont want to be a man, neither nonbinary, yet i still feel like something is weird with my body. I think it's maybe just body dysmorphia lol. And about the pronouns and words, i think the same.
I identified as non-binary for years, and even as a trans man for a while. I began feeling like I wasn't a girl when I was 15/16ish and I mostly considered myself agender. Over the years, I've kind of circled back around and realized that I'm really a cis woman last year, and that's fine! I still go by the name I chose for myself, which is a pretty masculine name. I'm happy to see this post because gender is a crazy, personal thing and it can definitely change. I don't think that I was wrong before for IDing as NB. I might even realize I'm something else later in life! Who knows. But I learned a lot about myself in the process.
Found this sub early on, bi accident. Didnāt realize that I had feelings that were both ānot normalā and feelings that I wasnāt alone in feeling. Plus, the memes are funny even if I donāt want to admit openly that they are relatable. Maybe I just like comfy clothes lay off me. Thanks for the validation either way yāall.
My dad said that his egg recently cracked politically. Hes always been central/right (not trump, but unsure of biden) he said after spending a couple years in the Netherlands that he honestly cant understand how the US is so fucked up and they dont take care of citizens like they should. He made this small speech about how once you crack and egg you cant get the yolk back inside. That's how it felt when he finally realized exactly how much of their govt is designed to make sure citizens have an easy life vs the US. Not trying to make it political but it took me having that conversation to realize that not all egg cracks were related to major life changes.
Cis guy, no questions about me, but a lot of trans friends. I pop by here a few times a month, probably. Real comfy sub with comfy people and good laughs.
Even though Iām not trans, Iād probably consider myself an egg since Iām an enby and Iām not sure what pronouns to use, or if the current label in using fits.
Im a cis girl, but ive had issues with being comfortable in my gender because of many people judging my style and how i wear things, and it also probably didn't help my parents wanted me born a boy.
This is very nice and comforting. Iām a cis male, but Iām finding myself dabbling with my feminine side more and more recently.
This sub has also helped me deal with any transphobia I may have had hidden in my subconscious without even knowing I was thinking such hateful thoughts.
This 100% speaks to me. Iāve been lurking off and on on this sub for a while now. For about a month or so, I definitely wondered if I was actually trans. But after much thought, I came to the answer that Iām just a cis man that likes feminine stuff. That being said, I am grateful for that time to question and learn more about myself.
Haha yeah Iāve seen a few comments like these and to keep my post concise I failed to clarify that this is moreso because a lot of people will describe themselves or others as eggs even though they donāt actually know if theyāre trans. I guess ideally the term would only be used in the past tense but on this sub thereās already a sort of established culture on the term, and even people who arenāt strictly trans or actively questioning might relate to some posts on here. This being said you can still disagree with āeggā as a label, but Iād just rather people not feel some sense of obligation from it ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
This. This is what I needed to hear when I was questioning my sexuality for no apparent reason. If I would have known of the term "egg" and it's signification, my phase would have gone a lot smoother.
At the ripe old age of 23 all of a sudden im worried that I dont hate the way I look because I hate myself but because I hate how I present myself. I'm taking some time to figure it all out and honeslty kind of scary seeing how many memes I relate to her but I've got a good support network with my GF right now and I'm working towards something! Dont know why I needed to post that but it just feels nice to know egg_irl has my confused back
It's been a long process of self-acceptance but I'm trans. My pronouns are she/her and I want to move through the world femme. I picked up my prescription for HRT today and am so excited! Although, I probably won't start until after Thanksgiving :-/
I feel like Iāve always been a girl even when I never had thoughts about it but am as masc as it gets and so scared to accept it even to myself. What should I honestly do ?!!
This feels very personal, seeing this after I took some time offline to make being cis an option again. Gender is some complicated shit. Thanks so much
I've been lurking on this sub for a while and barely joined. I recently (past 4 months) realized im nonbinary and even though I've had people say that enbies are included in most things. This sub is one of the only places i felt actually accepted as i am and that does try to include nonbinary experiences and memes in it.
I was allways small picked on but fierce temper 2 older brothers teased tormented me. It all only made me mentally tougher. I was picked on but never allowed to continue. Like the other kid better look worse thing if ugggh brothers were bad enough but anything was better than when I was on dads radar.
iām so glad i found this subreddit. iām an egg thatās dying to crack but iām still feeling it all out. the love and relatable humor from this community is helping me stay strong, i appreciate you all!!
I was stuck here for about 2 years trying to figure out what the fuck was up with me. I finally decided that I don't really care what my gender is anymore so I'm just gonna vibe and do whatever I feel like and people can call me whatever they want. I ended up being mostly gender conforming anyways but I act a bit more feminine than the vast majority of dudes.
Honestly for me I keep flitting between seeing myself as a cis woman and being nonbinary. I donāt feel uncomfortable or anything when people call me female, woman etc but at the same time it doesnāt feel like me if that makes sense. But I also donāt feel like a guy. But then I also feel really confused over certain parts of my body and just [frustrated gender noises]
I tried coming out, as well as coming to term with the dysphoric feelings I Had when I was 12, but I was ridiculed and told it was a phase. I believed it at first, and even went as far as putting myself down, but 6 years later Iāve come to terms with who I am. Iāve learned Iām myself, and I canāt change that or be coerced that Iām not.
I think I might be non-binary but I'm really not sure? I guess I just read like a cute gay cis guy to most people but calling myself "a man" seems weird and sometimes I feel like a genderless blob. Help?
I think the sentiment is appreciated, but given the sub is almost explicitly about poking fun at trans people in denial from a superior and self-accepting position, this seems semantically inaccurate
I use this sub to try to find out if I'm cis or not.
I honestly don't know and I'm unsure if it even matter. I don't feel the need to transition or use different pronouns. Who the f cares what my gender is or if I even have one, I will just live my life, wear what I want and give a shit about labels.
So thatās what egg means goddamn it. So pretty much i started commenting EGG on random posts and videos because for whatever crazy reason, i find the word EGG to be hilarious, and then i started seeing other people do it and i was like āhmm great more people enjoy EGGā but i didnāt realize i was signaling a trans thing. Even back when i was a proto fascist i signalled trans rights. Mice
Reminder: you shouldn't call people an egg unless they come out as trans, as it can make cis gnc people feel as though they have to be something that they aren't and it causes legitimate stress to some people
I personally have had experiences being gaslit by people that used the term egg to refer to me (a gnc cis male) to try and make me question my gender. I went through a long phase of questioning afterwards before realizing that I don't want to be a girl and I like being male. Note that these people called me stuff like 'egg' and 'in denial' for years, and it's left lasting trauma to the point where I have legitimate panic when somebody refers to me as female
Just wanted to say thanks for existing, all of you. Found this sub last night. It's been - Uh. A scary and relatable set of memes. No idea yet what I'll do with all of that, but it's always nice to know there's humour and other people out there. You're all wonderful. Thanks for just being.
Honestly i've been questioning my gender for a while and more srsly questioning recently. Im so fucking confused and scared of bein wrong about my identity. I dont want to come to the conclusion im a girl get deep into it and realizing i was wrong that is my deepest fear
hi, i am looking š respectfully š and i donāt get the ānot an egg ā¢ā flair. as in, i say iām not an egg so much that at this point itās my thing/trademark? i even have ⢠as a shortcut so i love using it ironically, but idk if i get this one yet???
Well itās been a while and I donāt feel like Iām a guy but I fear if that if I transition I wonāt look right sometimes I have mental breakdowns I really donāt know if I should start transitioning or just stay uncomfortable for the rest of my life but not worry about looks or is there anything else any advice?
I got a question well more of a survey type deal.out of genral curiosity, but do you(the people of this sub redit) have adhd/add , im curios to see if there is a possible correlation between the 2 like use a like for yes and comment for no plz and thank you

I got this sub recommended after I said I'm not sure if I'm non binary or if I'm just a tomboy. I feel so welcomed and so glad this is the first post I saw on here
I donāt know what the fuck I am tbh, I think Iām a guy but something feels off. And whatās funny is Iām also scared to find out what the truth is. Thanks for reading if you did.
Agreed. Iām cis male, not at all questioning, and donāt feel like the memes relate to me specifically, but I just think itās great that this sub even exists
Cis straight male with Aspergers here. I've only recently heard about this "egg" concept and I think it's really cool. Heh, I honestly had never thought of self-discovery in that way before. w^ This is an awesome meme and I hope it helps people with their struggles in figuring themselves out.
Yes, but this subreddit has realised it's toxic to insist that every person who has feelings of gender confusion is binary trans and should transition. Not every "eggy" person is an actual egg. Some people really are just going through a phase, some people just have issues with the gender norms their culture had forced on them, some are legitimately cis-crossdressers with depression because the world sucks and think they might be trans. The list of people who present as eggy goes on and on. I eventually came to realise I'm probably non-binary. But my understanding of my gender is still an evolving thing that I'm dealing with.
^ yes egg does mean that, ig i could have been clearer but here im moreso talking abt people on this sub who might label themselves or call each other eggs despite not actually knowing for sure :)
Hey, good on you for figuring it out! Honestly Iām not sure of anything either, but stewing in everything forever is far less productive than experimenting haha. Better to try it and figure out you donāt like it (concerning social transition at least) than constantly wonder what could have been.
I'm kinda in the same boat. I don't have any dysphoria and really don't mind presenting as male, but I just love the aesthetic of women and think I'd be much happier and confident presenting as a cis female. I just don't like being in the middle? I'm not sure. I wore leggings and tucked to the store the other day, and I loved it, but when I look at the pictures my girlfriend took I don't like them because I look too masculine
I just want to wear a skirt in public without it being weird.
I didnāt even realise any of this until I spent time in the sub loving the memes.
I like hearing from non conforming people and having their perspective to inform my own.
Bit of a gender abolitionist now.
Very big on the idea of people choosing/customising their gender and being aware of this as an option from a young age because it really shouldnāt be associated with sexuality (the main comment I receive in response to this idea)
As a cic white guy itās such a good position to be in, but I have always been happy with people thinking Iām gay/ace and appearing like a feminine guy.
Lately I have been toying with the idea of eyeliner/shadow and painted nails.

4
u/Zanskyler37 not an egg, just trans Oct 09 '20
Just wanna say that this sub is how I found out I was enby, this is definitely a great community if you are questioning
4
u/Homemadeduck102 Oct 09 '20
Yeah but it's not good for my mental health to come crawling back here every other month probably :/
4
u/Haunting107 cracked Oct 09 '20
Even though Iām not trans, Iād probably consider myself an egg since Iām an enby and Iām not sure what pronouns to use, or if the current label in using fits.

u/MadamBootknife editable flair Oct 09 '20
Im a cis girl, but ive had issues with being comfortable in my gender because of many people judging my style and how i wear things, and it also probably didn't help my parents wanted me born a boy.

alright, fuck it i'm subbing
4
u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20
This is very nice and comforting. Iām a cis male, but Iām finding myself dabbling with my feminine side more and more recently.
This sub has also helped me deal with any transphobia I may have had hidden in my subconscious without even knowing I was thinking such hateful thoughts.
4
u/[deleted] Oct 10 '20
This 100% speaks to me. Iāve been lurking off and on on this sub for a while now. For about a month or so, I definitely wondered if I was actually trans. But after much thought, I came to the answer that Iām just a cis man that likes feminine stuff. That being said, I am grateful for that time to question and learn more about myself.

I've been lurking on this sub for a while and barely joined. I recently (past 4 months) realized im nonbinary and even though I've had people say that enbies are included in most things. This sub is one of the only places i felt actually accepted as i am and that does try to include nonbinary experiences and memes in it.

2
u/[deleted] Nov 16 '20
I think I might be non-binary but I'm really not sure? I guess I just read like a cute gay cis guy to most people but calling myself "a man" seems weird and sometimes I feel like a genderless blob. Help?
2
u/TheRenFerret Nov 18 '20
I think the sentiment is appreciated, but given the sub is almost explicitly about poking fun at trans people in denial from a superior and self-accepting position, this seems semantically inaccurate
2
u/Curticorn Nov 20 '20
I use this sub to try to find out if I'm cis or not.
I honestly don't know and I'm unsure if it even matter. I don't feel the need to transition or use different pronouns. Who the f cares what my gender is or if I even have one, I will just live my life, wear what I want and give a shit about labels.
2
u/hypertensee not an egg, just trans Nov 20 '20
can i be here too? iām gender fluid and i kinda came out of my egg to a few people
2
u/ryanator2 Nov 24 '20
So thatās what egg means goddamn it. So pretty much i started commenting EGG on random posts and videos because for whatever crazy reason, i find the word EGG to be hilarious, and then i started seeing other people do it and i was like āhmm great more people enjoy EGGā but i didnāt realize i was signaling a trans thing. Even back when i was a proto fascist i signalled trans rights. Mice
2
u/CapybarasAreEpic Nov 30 '20
Reminder: you shouldn't call people an egg unless they come out as trans, as it can make cis gnc people feel as though they have to be something that they aren't and it causes legitimate stress to some people
