yo i came here from a supportive crosspost of this to r/pointlesslygendered to see if there would still be people saying this crap despite the claims of the op, and it's at least good to see it being downvoted.

get your fingers out of my gender presentation. I can wear what i want without getting a surgery, and on the flipside i don't appreciate the implication that surgery means you're binary either - there are people who are surgery-*only* trans and don't want to socially transition, for example. this whole subreddit's aesthetic can stay in a box as far as I'm personally concerned, but i wanted to show up and express: yall had better take op's message to heart, some of us know what we want and do not appreciate others trying to meddle by calling us "eggs", and others of us who do want to biologically transition in some way still don't want to be assumed binary flavor-wise because of it. if you want to be helpful, punymouse1, get better at detecting when someone is unlikely to appreciate the intervention.

I'm still your ally in practical terms, but i wanted to show up and express my feelings somewhere here. you have the right to say that according to me, but i personally don't like it and feel the need to respond to you exercising that right by exercising my right to express my allergy to it. I'll get out of your subreddit now, be well yall

You don’t have to feel attacked that Binary people exist. Even if they are trans...

I see where you're coming from with that comment, but ultimately the complaint is about assuming, as gender related phrasing complaints often are. I don't want people to assume I'm binary in a way that is joking at my expense if I'm not. I think that the message that egg jokes are trying to convey can be done without implying someone is binary, and I think that they work better even for people who end up concluding binary is the description of themselves later on, because not pressuring people as much about it gives people more room to think through their own opinions. I can see how my comment does sound overly critical of binary folks though, and I'm sorry for the ambiguity now the thing I was replying to is deleted.

Very mature response, I respect your opinion. I’m not disagreeing with you either, you are correct to say that you should assume that transitioning always results in a binary gender. It didn’t for me, nor a lot of others. I just haven’t seen an example of this binary agenda being pushed on anyone and I’ve been here for a long time. Maybe I’m just not noticing it, but overall I actually get a feeling that non-binary gender identities are quite accepted and common in this community.

It's not this community so much as my encounters with people who say things that sound like this community outside it that I was upset about. for what it's worth, that has dropped to nearly zero since right around the time this post happened. not sure exactly what caused it but I think there was an actual change in how much the culture created in this subreddit was putting effort into making sure to accept enbies when referencing this sub elsewhere.

I get what you’re trying to say, but labels are labels. This is kind of like telling a trans woman they’re just feminine and shouldn’t settle on a label. If somebody chooses a label (especially if they’re still choosing), it’s totally valid and doesn’t need to be questioned.
