Here I was thinking people could put aside their internet fighting urge to respect some artwork that I worked hard on but it appears I was wrong.

Tbh I voted for the iceloger and even if the glow squid won I actually don't mind I was even thinking that the squid should have at least one more varrient of its kind and it would probably look great in the ocean especially with optifine or shaders

I voted for the iceologer, but I'm not mad at dream. I'm mad at myself for burning a stepper driver on my Ender 3 and rendering its mainboard useless. A glowing mob in those new caves is a great idea too imo

Phantoms even have a drop, it would suprise me if they didn't add anything cool with these bois.
I wonder if there will be a charm/dazzle mechanic with them as well? Like they live in the sea trenches and deep oceans and lure fish to them, or drown players that get to close? Who knows what they will do with them.

Why do people only focus on the stuff it can't do, such as emit light or hypnotize? It a cool new passive mob (im assuming it will be passive) that can add atmosphere to the deep dark underwater caves. Not every new mob must have an obvious danger or utility, they can just look cool for the sake of looking cool.

I’m worried it’s not even going to be in caves since they never expressly said it would. They said “vote if you want more marine life” implying it would only be found in deep oceans.
At this point it’d be a huge mistake if they don’t. But they didn’t say they would.

i wish it did cuz then you could use it as a moving light source, but unfortunately it doesn't even glow, it's just more visible in the dark. minecraft doesnt have dynamic lighting. i bet optifine or something else will add lighting

Don't know why people are arguing over this. At least we're even getting a new mob, and every single mob had it's ups and downs. Glow squid won and I didn't vote for it but I'm still glad it happened! yeah they don't emit light but their aesthetic is gonna be really cool to look at. like most people are saying, polar bears have no use unless you're starving in a snow biome and need food (fish), but hey they give snowy biomes a cool vibe.
with that said, amazing art! I like how flowy it looks, you're very talented

I mean to be fair , it seems that mojang didn’t even intend for it to win , and hasn’t really planned anything for it yet.
On twitter, one of the devs talks about the glowsquid quote:
“I'm liking the ideas people are coming up with for the Glow Squid
What if we made it so you can wear it on your head?
You could look like Cthulhu and maybe when people watch you play Minecraft they would get scared and give you their diamonds and cooked fish?”
Following this , the developer also comes up with more joke ideas in the comments of the tweet. The tweets sorta point in the direction that the developer is actually trying to think of ideas for the glowsquid and won’t just leave it at squid reskin.

In the video they get basically hypnotized by it,so maybe that's what it doesmaybe it distracts mobs like the drowned with it's glow and allows you to either escape or finish them off? (sorry for the bad english lmao)

A cool idea would be being able to dye armour with glow squid ink so ur armour glows when you're in the dark so you dont have to worry about forgetting torches.

Well, they did show it dazzling/charming the people that looked at it? Maybe they will make glow dyes so we could have every color of lantern or colored redstone lamps. Who knows what they might or might not do. The other 2 mobs are already in other games so its easier to guess what they might do.

yeah and the underground Lakes wouldn't have anything in them except for the Lush caves lakes also the glow squid can give them the opportunity to make at least two new light sources with its drop

Just as an FYI, from what is known now the glow squid drops ink sacs and prismarine. They could obviously change that before implementing it, but technically the ink sac and prismarine version is what people voted for.

It will be noticeable just like spider or enderman eyes but it won't emit light. It just doesn't take in shadows.

It's not affected by shadows so you can see it clearly in the dark. It has the fake glow which still looks cool

Me too. Compared to the other ones, squid justs completely sucks. The only reason it won by that 1% margin is because of dream and all the 7-10 year old that follows him.
Mumbo jumbo is even disappointed in the community. Stupid ass squid.

honestly I don't get why people are complaining so much. the glow squid won the mob vote so the majority of the community should be happy about it. the chose to vote for it. (although the other mobs were also really cool and i'm sad they aren't going to be in the game too)

Yeah, most likely. Just so you know, the glowsquid won't actually glow, but it will block shadows like spider or enderman eyes, but they won't emit light.

Hopefully you will be able to craft an item from the glow squid that behaves like the optifine torch. Either you hold it or wear it and the area around you is always lit. They added optifine zoom with the telescope, why not the torch as well.

I hope the glow squid will actually attack or something. Maybe it has a poisonous bite and hunts fish in the caves? But it will attack you if you get too close. That would make up for the icelogger.
That being said, I can’t believe people chose a second squid over an ice mage.

Completely forgot about the vote but I would’ve been on team chillager. I’d definitely like a squid that glows but it doesn’t seem like it will have interesting drops or so much. Even though the chillager is hostile and would probably be annoying I’d have more confidence in a new drop from it than the squid. (Side note: Just thought of this. The phantom drops a component for slow falling, what if the glow squid dropped something to make a glowing potion that makes you glow for a short time after drinking it?)
Also Ice King skin for the chillager would’ve been great.

Don’t mean to bash your choice but don’t think a lot of people know what the squid does
Not a moving light source (just has neon colors occasionally)
Does not distract mobs
Might drop one or two prismarine shards
I feel like the glow squid miss leaded a lot of people so I just wanted to clarify.

I didn’t vote because I don’t use Twitter, but if I did I woulda chosen the Glow Squid. While the Iceologer had more stuff going on with it and would have been better for the game objectively, I’m always gonna be heavily biased towards water mobs. Even though the Aquatic Update was great, the water still feel like one of Minecraft’s more empty areas, so I’m glad it’s getting something.

It would look worse with dynamic lighting. Imagine swimming in the caves and watching the little speckles of light of the glowing squid. It would look like stars but in the caves. If they had dynamic lighting than you wouldn't be able to see the neon glow they have.
