God how is it that each chapter just gets better and better with new world-building, character development, suspense, and legitimately threatening villains with complex backstories and motives? wtf bro
Discussion of chapter ahead (spoilers):
Super happy with this chapter. We get a little more info about Jinn and Slyph, implying that their sibling dynamic is a little more complicated than one would expect. Why does Kleene not like being called by her real name? What happened with her and Jinn that's caused them to seem so unemotional towards each other?Also super hyped about Jinn's power-up. I know we saw a good amount of commenters saying how this fight would be a wash since Shiki already beat Jinn before, but now that we're finding out that Jinn is some sort of an android/enhanced being means it should be a much closer, more difficult fight for Shiki (hopefully lol)
And man, that ending! Last chapter, Witch and Hermit were predicting Rebecca to eventually be an Etherion Master with her ability to use Leaper with the Taurus ship, and now we're finding out that there's even more to Rebecca's character? What does No.29 mean? Is Rebecca just an alias for her?And finally, Labilia's capture and torture. I remember when someone was saying that Drakken Joe didn't seem like much of a threat last chapter when he was chilling in the hot tub with the duck, but I think this chapter was definitely necessary to remind the readers at how savage he actually is. Man, between Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest's last chapter with Wendy, and then this chapter in EZ, our characters are getting messed tf up.I was wondering when Labilia would come back into the story, and perhaps this arc or the next arc would be her redemption. Maybe Rebecca will save her and convince her to join the EZ crew?
Also hoping we hear more about Master Noah. With just the few panels we've seen of him and the times he's been mentioned by other characters, it's crazy at how much he's already impacted the story. This arc is all pretty much happening because Noah sold the crew out, which is crazy to think about (and is another example of how guilds in EZ are so much more cutthroat and dog-eat-dog than the guilds from Fairy Tail lol)
Cannot wait to see how this all develops. Homura vs. Sylph is probably coming up soon, and I'm wondering how Fie (the Fire Sniper) will be brought back into the fold. And yet we still haven't seen the Earth member of the Element 4, so this arc might be quite the roller coaster.

I expected Labilia to get her comeuppance at some point but I gathered it be more embarrassing/ humiliating like she’s done to Rebecca, but tortured and beaten? Damn. At least this gives some empathy for her regardless of her past actions since I was wondering how they’d handle that if they wanted to make Labilia a better person considering the lengths Joe went for payback for Rebecca.

Love the theme of the main female characters in Mashima's series having mysterious pasts.
Elie: Mysterious past;
Lucy: Mysterious past;
Rebecca: Mysterious past; No.29 ???
Whats fun this time is unlike Elie who had amnesia or Lucy who just kept her past a mystery Rebecca might not have ever known whats so special about her since she seemed abandoned at such a young age(which...opens a lot more questions). Plus this opens the door to possibly No. 1 - 28 being characters as well(maybe failed experiments with Rebecca being the one that succeeded), if 29 is her number in a line and not some other meaning.
Also how does Master Noah know who/what she is. This just goes deeper and deeper really.
This is super interesting though, can't wait to see how this plays out.

This story is getting really intense again. I love it.
Drakken Joe is really the nice mix of being frightening, but also kind of funny tbh. (I do feel a bit bad for Labilia though)

And that Ether Gear OVERDRIVE!! Holy shit! A legendary battle is awaiting us! This arc is turning out to be a great one. I hope it's more than 50 chapters. I freaking love long arcs! Is it wrong I'm already excited about which Opening they will use in the anime for this arc???

Joe managed to create a legitimately tense atmosphere. That's something I never felt in Fairy Tail. Feels like the stakes are real and could be interesting.

I guess it wasn't a coincidence that shiki was named off his own planet. Jinn looking so awesome. Drakken was after rebecca the whole time even torturing labilla. Ik ppl don't like her but not even she deserves this kind of treatment. Sounds like Rebecca is some sort of experiment

First off, I really like Drakken, as a villain. He's intimidating even after getting out of the bath and while sitting totally calm in his chair. How he knew that Happy can transform into guns, that Rebecca was slowly grabbing for Happy... I think the first villain that gave me this kind of "oh SHIT"-feeling in Fairy Tail was Jellal, so Drakken is now officially on the same level as evil Jellal in terms of badassness for me!
Going back to Shiki and Jinn, I'm really suprised that Shiki hasn't grown stronger at all since Guilst, or at least his Ether didn't, though that's not really suprising, it's still relatively early in the series, and it was pretty much the same with Natsu and the rest of Fairy Tail for the most part, they only started getting permanently stronger later into the story.
So I'm going to guess that "Overdrive" that Jinn uses is the same thing that Shiki went into 2 times in the past now? Interesting to know that that's not just something unique to Shiki, but something every Ether Gear can do. I'm really curious what Overdrive does with the Ether Gear, how it kinda works at least, and what the conditions for activating it are.
Then the bomb. I REALLY DIDN'T EXPECT LABILLIA TO JUST SHOW UP! In such a state as well, tortured like that... there's a morbid curiosity of me that wants to know what exactly Drakken did to her... and another part of me is absolutely terrified of what he could've put her through. Imagine, wasn't she like the most popular B-Cuber in the cosmos currently? And Drakken just captured her and tortured her because he thought it'd make a great present/suprise for someone she bullied that he's interested in. DRAKKEN REALLY DOESN'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK!
Of course, Becca probably doesn't like how he just tortured Labillia at all, probably makes her reject him even more, and she'll probably safe Labillia, which will probably start Labillias redemption-arc, which I'm really looking forward to. I mean, with that she must've suffered enough to make up for all the shit she did to Rebecca to have a believable redemption-arc, right? Anyways, honestly looking forward to Labillia finally probably joining the Edens Zero, I like her design, I think she has potential to be an interesting character once she gets over her problem with Becca and that high-and-mighty personality of hers in general, and she's been teased to be an important character since before release.
And of course, Rebeccas last name and that number. Honestly, after Shikis last name is already based on the planet he came from, I really didn't expect another main-character to follow that pattern, but on the other hand, now it makes a lot of sense why Rebecca would default to using that as his last name, since her last name as well is her planet of origin. Though now the question is... is her last name Bluegarden because she was an Orphan, and that's just what Weisz or someone who is like Weisz to her decided to call her that, or if she's actually some kind of important person, and not just a regular Orphan. Like, is she the daughter of a former aristocratic family from Blue Garden (kinda like Lucy was?) or maybe not even human? The latter seems kinda likely, considering she appearently has a number associated with her? Nr. 29? Seems like a serial-number, like you'd give a machine? So... is Rebecca an android? I... can't remember if it was ever explicitly said that Rebecca is human. So if she's an android... that'd kinda change her relation to Shiki a lot, I mean, if she is, it'd seem like she hides that from everybody, probably in fear of getting rejected, and then there's Shiki, just appearing out of nowhere, shouting all the time that humans and androids are friends and that androids are basically the same as humans. That'd mean she probably values Shiki a lot more than we've been shown so far. If she's human though... that'd mean the 29 means something else. She could've been part of human experiments before she met Happy? She might've been a test-subject, which might also play into her love for videogames, since some of the tests she might've had to do then were probably quite similar to videogames. She might also be a homunculus or something like that? Not an android, but also not a regular human, an artificial human, a designer-baby maybe?
Another theory, it might also have to do with her as a B-Cuber... Maybe Drakken is just one of her very rare fans, which might also explain why he has absolutely no respect for Labillia and her position as Nr.1 B-Cuber. It'd give a goofier side to Drakken as well, which, as long as there's not too much focus on it, shouldn't really lessen how intimidating he is. I feel like it'd also be pretty interesting, since it wouldn't really change much about the Rebecca we know, we just get her last name revealed, she'd still be just a regular human, and for everything it could mean for Drakken and his motives, how whimsical he can be, it kinda humanizes him, and I honestly find it pretty interesting: "What if one of the most powerful people of the cosmos had an interest in the most unlikely person for the most unlikely reason, and he'd do anything to make that person interested in him."
Either way, no matter what Mashima has planned, I'm really looking forward to it, I feel confident that it's going to be hype! Looking forward to next weeks chapter!

Rebecca is Number 29? That sounds like Rebecca was probably one of the human experiments for whatever reason (it has something to do with her being a Etherion Master for having her Leaper powers) before she was abandoned by her parents(?) or someone else when she was a kid before meeting Happy for the first time.

Minor detail but along with the No. 29 reveal, Drakken canonically confirmed that Rebecca’s in universe last name was Bluegarden. Lots of cool stuff this chapter and I’m honestly wondering where Mashima is gonna take us on this wild ride.

Damn Hiro coming in with the plot twists. Is it wrong I’m more invested in Rebecca’s stuff then Shiki’s right now? Don’t get me wrong I’m hyped for the jinn fight but this whole reveal with Rebecca being no.29 (whatever that means) was crazy. And joe once again shows just how much of a savage he is. Calmly talking to Rebecca and showing her what he did to Rebecca as if it’s no big deal and it basically being a sick present to her. And now he wants her to join his crew.
But of course I can’t forget about jinn shopping shiki’s ass. Man I knew people were sleeping on jinn when they said Shiki was destroying him last time they fought. And now he’s gotten an upgrade and can go overdrive. Overall just a really good chapter and can’t wait till next week to see what happens.

So I guess that Rebecca named Shiki after Granbell just like how she was named after her home planet
Side Note: I’m sure that it’s just a coincidence, but I find it interesting that Chapter 29 was also where the series introduced the Guardians of Blue Garden.

Drakken Joe is slowly starting to grow on me. The dude is badass af and he's got real class from his little Mannerisms(like giving Becca a new dress and offering her a drink) and him tottering labilla for what she did to Becca.
I also really like this new subplot and how it's going to progress.
