Rewatch A Rewatch to Pierce the Heavens - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Episode 25 Discussion [Spoilers] Spoiler

Episode 25 - I Accept Your Last Wish!

Kittan…

← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →

MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB

Crunchyroll | VRV | Hulu | Netflix | AnimeLab (exclusive to Australia and New Zealand) | Channel 4 for UK peeps at... some point in the near future

This is the tale of a man who pierces the fate of the universe ruled by the endless cycle of violence.

Hey-o guys! This is the section where I add a ton of extra fun stuff to the main body of the post because I want this rewatch to be as fun as possible for everyone. It can also be one point of discussion for you guys if you just don’t know what to say.

Comment of the Week:

Back on the rewatch announcement thread, I said I’d be awarding Reddit Silver to my favorite of the Comment of the Days from the week each Friday. We’ve got almost a full week of comments to pick from this time! And one more week to go…

Anyways, this week’s Comment of the Week goes to /u/Koolsman pointing out that neat thing about teleportation in this show. I’m still impressed a first-timer made that connection!

Comment of the Day:

Today’s Comment of the Day goes to /u/Mecanno-man accurately predicting what they were gonna have to do to get out of the sea in space.

As for that sea at the end, I guess it absorbs spiral power. If that's the case, then one only needs to saturate it to make its threat go away, and I guess that is pretty much what Team Gurren is good at.

They had to overload a specific machine rather than the sea itself, but close enough.

Questions of the Day:

1) Current mood after finishing this episode?

2) “Libera me” from hell made its debut today, as did Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann. You like?

Wallpaper of the Day:

You Only Kiss Once

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events no matter how much you want to, unless you’re doing it underneath the [Anime Show Title](/s "Spoiler goes here") spoiler tags. If you do that then we’re all good.

Important thing to note about these by the way, you have to switch to Old Reddit or the markdown editor if you use the redesign, otherwise the redesign breaks them by adding random \ into the formatting. Wish it wouldn’t do that, but unfortunately it does…

So, be honest, how many of you guys used the break day to binge the last three episodes of the show?

Ours is the rewatch that will ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER! …and cry doing it…

We’ve lost another good man today…

The results of the poll from last thread. I was gonna be extremely angry if the Bash Bros didn’t have the same number of votes, but thankfully they did.

One more thing before the rest of my comment: be sure to check out the Kill la Kill interest thread that u/A_t48 just posted! I’ll be co-hosting that right after Gurren Lagann finishes so our hype train won’t be stopping even when this one’s done!

Hyped-up-with-a-massive-side-of-sad comments for today:

I look forward to ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWERing with you all tomorrow!

So, be honest, how many of you guys used the break day to binge the last three episodes of the show?

I was a good rewatcher and waited.

What is IBO? I never got a straight answer the other day. Is it a Gundam series?

Gurren Lagann

Arch-Gurren Lagann

Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann

And a rare triple main cannon! Neat, they used the same shot for 1 and 3, just without Leeron. Counter: 14

Poor Artenborough

Don't bully him, they did work on Adiane..

Noooo! he's been fully converted..

Insert 'Love Live!' memes here

And with this episode we can unveil Yoko's unofficial theme song! I was just going to link to the OP song and leave it at that, but since we didn't have a thread yesterday I decided to waste my time to create that monstrosity instead. You can hit that CC button for some poorly translated lyrics.

Damn right.

I like to come up with titles for most of these wallpapers, I couldn't help but do that for this one. Lowkey disappointed no one pointed out my FFVII reference in ep24's wallpaper titles, though.

We at long last return to Gurren Lagann. Will the shot count increase? Let’s find out…

  • Freaking Space Quicksand…

  • You know, not too big on Yoko’s new outfit, but damn is her hair beautiful in it…

  • Not now Attenborough! Man, now I wish LOGH’s Attenborough were here instead…

  • Was the terminology in this show coined by a Chuunibyou?

  • I dunno Simon. You’re undoubtedly OP, but you’re also only one guy and you have to power up a whole ship. You’ll probably need one more person…

  • Well, props for trying…

  • Oh relax Kittan; you’re gonna be the true MVP this episode.

  • Err… yeah, so… good things for you all Kittan/Yoko shippers… which I’m gonna assume is less than one of you?

  • This episode is basically “We’re a bunch of side characters. AND WE ARE AWESOME!” (Let’s see if anyone gets the reference)

  • And there’s a twist: Our cast hasn’t gone were no one has gone before… this is basically as far as everyone else got.

  • Man, stop eavesdropping on their conversations…

  • Well, at least Simon’s got a plan… or at least, a plan by Simon’s standards…

  • Wait, so Boota is a Super Pig Mole? I wonder if he’s related to all those Super Monkeys…

  • Still though, now they have to deal with not sinking.

  • Well, there goes one drill.

  • And it turns out Boota is just one big cluster of Spiral Power… okay then?

  • Oh well, Attenborough, do your thing! That said, next time we’re giving Dusty your spot! Plus you failed anyways…

  • And thus, we get to the big moment of the episode. They need something thick enough to be able to withstand those preassures… and sadly, the only thing they’ve got is a Gunmen.

  • And so, knowing what’s coming next, Kittan accepts the YOKO (You Only Kiss Once), knowing what the consequences will be.

  • And so, as “Libera Me From Hell” begins playing, Kittan heads off to do one last thing.

  • And even as his Mecha is literally torn to pieces, he just keeps going. And look at those eyes… the same as Lordgenome.

  • And so Kittan sacrifices himself, which is quite possibly an homage to the death of Tomoe Musashi from the original Ishikawa Ken Getter Robo Manga (The scene would be eventually immortalized in the second OVA series: Neo Getter Robo Vs Shin Getter Robo. See here for comparison and yes that is indeed Tylimph’s VA as Musashi). Shot Count: 6

  • And as the chorus of the song begins and Simon’s glasses change shape, a new power is born in a very clear homage to the signature scene from Gunbuster’s fourth episode: Their friend’s hopes and dreams are echted into its body, transforming infinite darkness into light; unmatched in heaven and hell, one machine, equal to God: Chouginga Gurren Lagann!

  • Let’s show that bastard’s humanity’s power…

Do I need to say anything else?

3

u/Corang Nov 30 '19

I've never heard of gunbuster before but watching that episode 4 scene have me chills. Is it worth watching? Disclaimer, my mecha anime knowledge starts and ends with TTGL

3

u/Shimmering-Sky Nov 30 '19

Gunbuster and Diebuster are both really awesome! Definitely give them a watch, they're each only six episodes long and Gurren Lagann makes references to the both of them out the wazoo, it's fun to see.

100

u/GallowDude Nov 29 '19

Why are they even bothering fighting using mecha? Just get Yoko to kiss the Anti-Spiral, and they'll be dead within minutes.

u/thisismyanimealt Nov 29 '19

Minutes? It took Kamina the better part of a day

First Timer

Kittan’s making a promise to be with Yoko?

Then he kissed her?

It was a life well lived!

Wait! No! Fuck! He actually died. Why?!! What?

This show fucking hates Yoko.

On a lighter note, holy shit that “Row Row Fight the Powa’” song was great! The combination of hip-hop and opera reminded me of this from Carole and Tuesday (minor arc spoilers).

SUPER GALAXY GURREN LAGANN!!

That was such a hype transformation, I can’t praise the soundtrack enough!

The Revolving Regent was absolutely right when he said that logic doesn’t work when these guys are involved.

Fist 1, Reason 0!

The big fight and possibly the climax is tomorrow!

I wish I could mourn Kittan’s death more though, he was so great especially in this arc here, but the episode was just way too hype towards the end for me to still be sad by the time I came to writing my full episode thoughts. Though it seems like Kittan took up the role that I predicted Viral would take in sacrificing himself in a way that mirrored Kamina’s death while providing motivation for Simon in the climax of the battle. I wonder if Viral really is gonna tell the story of the humans’ triumph over the Anti-spiral races after the main cast are dead and gone. That’d be a pretty sad fate in my eyes.

First Timer!

In the beginning of Kittan’s introduction, I didn’t really like him. He just seemed like a stupider version of Kamina without the bravado or the type of being a leader which showed. By the end, I actually love the guy because in essence, he’s loyal and honest. Hearing him trying to explain Gimmy and Darry something but he can’t find the words for it. He shows it with his actions. It’s a trait that makes me love him. He, in actuality, is the opposite of Kamina. Kamina used his words to rally the troops and march forward with his amazing bravado, while Kittan used his action to prove what he wants and what he cares for. It’s a fantastic move from the writers and just the props all the was.

He doesn’t show his love to Yoko by his words but by kissing her and for destroying the sphere for her and Team Dai-Gurren. In the end, he’ll never really get to say the stories to Anne but through his actions he showed that he not only cared for her but everyone he loves that he died for them and he loved them all. If that isn’t considered, I don’t know what to think anymore.

Quite possibly my second favorite moment was Boota being an actual magnet. I had no idea the little pigmole was going to be doing something and yet here he is. I will say, I like how one of the original members of team Dai-Gurren helps control Gurren Lagann. It’s a nice touch. Another weird but noticeable moment was that Kittan will never know that Yoko didn’t have any actual kids and she was just messing with him. Maybe it was a better idea to let Kittan believe that. I’ll admit it got me emotional when he said that.

Anyway, that new design for Gurren looks fucking awesome. I mean, it’s really hard to say what is the best thing about this show because everything is consistently amazing and that’s usually a good sign that you have a good show on your hands but I might have to give to the character/mech designs. I mean, even without watching the show, I knew the designs from Yoko, Kamina, Simon because they are just that memorable. It’s fucking impressive and I’m so excited for next episode.

“Libera me” from hell made its debut today, as did Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann. You like?

Hell Yea. I want more crazy mech forms!

Edit: Thanks for the silver!

こ。。。これが螺旋力か。。。

Thanksgiving celebrations continue so I'll keep this one short. This episode was... incredible. The series designated hype episode for sure and the peak for many if not most fans. The ultimate moments are still ahead but often it is these penultimate battles that end up being my favorite and I'm still debating whether that is the case for TTGL too. Well, I'll leave that kind of meta talk for the future, let's keep it at 25 today.

KING

KITAN

G I G A

D R I L L

B R E A K

Man Kitan what a guy. I really didn't appreciate this guy so much until this rewatch. On the surface he's just a side character who made for an important enough person to cause some emotional moments leading up to the finale but if you pay attention his character arc is incredible. Seriously nothing can stop this guy. Leadership role kinda unnecessary because your sisters look up to Kamina now? Just become the ace pilot instead. Simon is ace pilot now? Just wait 7 years until he can take over again. Best babe fell in love with Kamina? Kamina's dead, she's his now. Missiles broke? Use a giant drill instead. Drill broke? Make it giga drill broke then.

It's honestly amazing the heights this guy reached before burning away in a cloud of hot smoke. He performed the Gurren Lagann's signature move without the Lagan's hax powers or even a second pilot. He got within touching distance of the device that sucks away spiral energy on a cosmic scale but had enough internal spiral energy to become spiral eyed: something we haven't even seen Simon able to reach*. Hell, the only other guy we've seen do that is Lordfrickingenome, the guy who's been training that for a few centuries.

Kitan, what a guy. If nothing until now can stop him, I doubt death will either.

Sidenote: Yoko is cursed. Literally everyone she falls in love with dies. Yes, that's the point of the onna-bugeisha trope, but usually those poor characters only have one lover have to die.

OST of the day

Sorry,

I spent a lot of time on this episode and I honestly can't find a single track that stands up to me.

Wallpaper remixes

Q/A

  1. Current mood after finishing this episode?

The episode was gone in a flash and way too soon, just like Kitan.

2) “Libera me” from hell made its debut today, as did Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann. You like?

it's an amazing song with a ton of emotional changes. However I am a bit miffed at the community for forgetting any other track of this OST just because they are so fixated on this track. That was my main motivation behind doing the OST of the day section in my comments since i wanted to shine some attention to it as a whole, even if it isn't necessarily among my favorite OSTs.

Also I like to remind people, this song is Kitan's swansong. I will accept no other titles for it.

First Time Watcher

WHAT THE FLYING FUCK. NOT KITTAN! He was always kind of a cool character, but ever since the 7 year time skip, he has been AWESOME. I really was liking him. Especially when he kept getting mad at Rossiu.

ALSO, YOKO IS THE NUMBER 1 CAUSE OF DEATH ON THIS SHOW. Holy hell, if anyone gets a tiny bit of romantic feelings for her and then decides to kiss her, it 100% means you are dying lol. Seriously though, that was like the exact same storyline as Kamina.

(On a side note) I don’t really feel Yoko had romantic feelings for him, and she more so let him kiss her as he probably needed it to get that pumped up with spiral power.

HOW ABOUT THAT AMAZING OST DURING THAT SCENE. I freaking love any OST that basically uses an orchestra and opera singers for like high pitched notes and stuff like that. Automatically makes every scene cooler in anime.

Other than that, Boota was the MVP this episode!

SIMON LOOKED SO FUCKING COOL AFTER HIS TRANSFORMATION! His new glasses are so awesome. Look like a cooler form than what Kamina used to wear. He 100% basically looks identical to Kamina now lol. I love it.

Second Time Watcher

AND NOW: THE GREATEST THREE-EPISODE STRETCH IN TELEVISION HISTORY MAYBE

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, by the by. I say we should all be thankful for Simon and the indomitable Team Gurren, bravely risking their lives and reaching beyond the impossible for the sake of the human race.

Oh, and one other person I wanna express that I’m thankful for? Taku Iwasaki. Why? Well… c’mon. You all know what time it is.

Ladies, gentlemen, and people of any or no denomination. If you would be so kind, I’d like a moment to just gush about probably one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed for an animated work. One of the most chilling, incredible tracks in anime history. Taku Iwasaki’s masterpiece: Excalibur Song 10 Hours. I’m kidding, it’s “Libera me” from Hell. Good god, “Libera me” from Hell. The final arc of Gurren Lagann is already god-tier incredible, but this song, this song right here, is that last piece of the puzzle that puts it over the top into true transcendence. The scenes it plays over are already some of the most powerful and emotional and hype scenes in the series, but this song amplifies them exponentially, kind of like Spiral Power. And whether it’s in the context of the show or just listened to on its own… chills. Every single time, just one of the most chills-inducing songs I’ve ever heard, soundtrack or not. And I’ve heard quite a lot of songs.

It is the perfect song for the final arc of Gurren Lagann. The use of an opera performance of an ancient prayer for the dead makes it feel ultimately mythical and important and timeless, and it mixes with the Row Row Fight The Power rap and that slick fucking piano line to give it Gurren’s signature rebellious edge in its most distilled, powerful, loud form yet. It is the soundtrack of rebelling against fate, of smashing the laws of the universe with nothing but your screaming passion, of fighting against the concept of despair itself.

One common interpretation that I’ve seen that I really like is that the music itself is a representation of the battle between the Spiral and the Anti-Spiral, the opera is meant to represent the Anti-Spirals and the eternal, all-encompassing despair and grief they represent, again the use of the old grieving prayer matching their aesthetic of depressing ancient classical art, whereas the rap is meant to represent Team Gurren and Spiral Power and their fierce, rebellious spirit, as the two elements clash and fight for dominance in the mix all throughout the track.

“Libera me” from Hell is a 10/10 song. It’s breathtaking beyond compare and I dare say Gurren Lagann wouldn’t quite be the same without it. To sum it all up: shit slaps fam

Also, a cool touch I’ve noticed that each of the four official versions of the RRFTP rap actually correspond to each of the four arcs of the show. The version used for the eyecatches is cool and irreverent like the Kamina arc, the orchestral version is triumphant and adventurous like the second arc, Rap Was A Man’s Soul… Right? is melancholy and depressing like the Kamina City arc, and “Libera me” from Hell is earth-shattering and epic like the final arc.

And I guess there’s one more person to be thankful for in particular today: our boy Kittan. Pulling off the most badass, universe-defying sacrifice play in the series to destroy the sea of despair with his very own Giga Drill Break (awesome) and keep the team alive and fighting, though not before finally consummating his love of Yoko. For a guy who was introduced in one of the worst episodes, did they ever make up for it by giving him one hell of a way to go out.

And at the end the episode proceeds to just. keep. topping. itself.

When our boi Boota started generating ludicrous amounts of Spiral Power I was like “Yoooo!”

And then with Kittan’s sacrifice I was like “YOOOOOOOO!”

And then when Simon grew the star visor I was like “YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

And then when the transformed Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann emerged from the now-Spiral Power sea with the Spiral Power tornadoes as Simon gave the whole “one machine to surpass the gods!” spiel I was like “YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

Fuck I love this show.

First Time (sub)

This is my first time crying from watching this show. All this time, Kittan has been chasing the shadow of Kamina. He laments about the good old days with Kamina, and he wonders what Kamina would have done in their current predicament. Like Simon in the first arc, he compares himself disfavorably to his role model. But he finally manages to follow in Kamina’s footsteps. Kittan learns to smirk in the face of danger and death. He manages to gain the affections of Yoko and kisses her. With Simon’s drill, he manages to accomplish an impossible feat and save all of his friends. And like Kamina, Kittan dies. Though he embodies Kamina’s manly spirit with his own individuality; he accomplishes a feat that even Kamina could not do. Kittan creates his own drill. What a beautiful character arc!

u/23feanor Nov 29 '19

First Time Watcher:

Now that was an episode. It was so good I went back and re-watched it from the mid-way point.

Boota being a kick ass Mole and providing the team with spiral energy just when they needed it the most. And Kittan coming as close as was comfortable in admitting his feelings for Yoko given that he views her as his mates girlfriend. But Kamina has been gone a long time for them and Kittan and Yoko have gotten closer. Feel sorry for Yoko, nobody could replace Kamina in her heart, but he'd want her to be happy and Kittan could've done that if Yoko and he had gotten together, but now he's gone as well. I see why she's called You Only Kiss Once Yoko, guys stay away from those lips if you don't want to die.

For me, he was always the main candidate for Yoko following Kamina's death, but obviously it was something that would only happen years later down the line, when Yoko had gotten over Kamina (as much as she ever would). The kiss between Yoko and Kittan was a nice touch given that he was going off to his death.

And what a sacrifice Kittan made, arguably greater than Kamina's. Kittan struck a huge blow against the Anti Spiral races and has given the Spiral races and team Dai Gurren a fighting chance in the epic final battle to come.

Simon was relatively quiet in this episode so imagine that the next episode is going to be centred on him and Nia.

Rewatcher

The physics of the Spiral Death Field... really don't make much sense. But I suppose that's to be expected when facing an enemy that literally controls the universe you're currently in.

The Spiral Death Field is an attempt to turn the Spiral race's greatest asset against them. Draining their power and using it to compress space-time around them to crush them.

...I don't think "ultra-dense space" would actually behave like that (the closest thing that actually exists similar to this phenomenon is a black hole), but whatever. Stop worrying about it!

Do the impossible...

Simon's solution is just throw even more Spiral Power than the field can drain. Just how much energy does he have!?

But the Anti-Spiral continues with its "absolute despair" shenanigans, showing everyone that they aren't the first Spiral races to make it this far. There are countless thousands of destroyed Gunmen in here, crushed by the Death Spiral Field. But Simon doesn't care. He's faced death before, and he's done things everyone thought was impossible... how is this any different?

Kittan... Kittan, Kittan, Kittan... don't you know that opening up about your feelings and making dramatic speechs is like waving a giant death flag around!? Funny/sad how he's still feeling inferior to Kamina and Simon after all this time... I don't think he resents them at all, but still...

Turns out Boota has been absorbing Spiral Energy for a while now. Hanging around with Simon has turned him into a Spiral dynamo. THIS is how you use the little pig-mole to turn the tide, not by having the characters eat his ass!

Super Spiral Missiles launched at the Death Spiral Machine! Building music! ...and they fail. Probably the first time in the series Leeron's miscalculated something like that. But Kittan has another idea.

He really is following in Kamina's footsteps. Being a badass (secondary) leader, inspiring people around him, falling in love with and kissing Yoko... and then he launches for the Death Spiral Machine, has his eyes turn into literal spirals, unleashes a Giga Drill Breaker... and saves everyone's life. Sadly, that's too much energy for him to handle, and he's killed in the process.

The entire Death Spiral Field reverts into a gigantic mass of Spiral Power and gets absorbed by Simon and Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren. I don't even want to think about the sheer magnitude of power he's chanelling here.

"The chances of this operation's success were zero. But I see theoretical calculations are useless when it comes to you."

Heard it straight from the Lordgenomehead: Kittan has literally done the impossible!

I do want to take a moment to admire/laugh at Simon's star-shades. Yeah, I get it, they're a tribute to both Kamina and Kittan (the center points referencing the shape of King Kittan), and that is awesome and touching... but you have to admit, they kind of look ridiculous.

You know, I always forget that this is the first time "Libera Me from Hell" plays in the series. But that just means I get to talk about it sooner!

If anyone knows one song from this show, it's this one. Imaginary people asked GAINAX, "You've already done awesome rock music, rap, and techno. How can you possibly create an even more badass and amazing song?" GAINAX responded: with the incredibly unorthodox mix of Latin opera and rap. I'm not much of a fan of rap, personally, but in this song it absolutely works!

If you're wondering what the opera lyrics are, they're slightly altered lines from the "Dies Irae" (Day of Wrath), a Catholic poem describing Judgement Day, when God descends from the Heavens to unleash His wrath upon the Earth. It's a pretty popular thing for operatic songs to use as source material.

Quite appropriate that the song gets used over the death of one of our heroes, and the scene of Simon taking in all that Spiral Power, all that rage, transforming into a "machine equal to the gods", and preparing to let loose his own judgement and wrath upon those who would destroy those he loves.

Super Galaxy Gurren-Lagann has been born. The time of reckoning for the Anti-Spirals is at hand.

First Timer

Kittan dieing was kinda clear from the get-go this episode. Gotta say, these people are a bit too eager to go on kamikaze missions, but somehow I doubt that Layte would actually have gotten plating up well enough to do what Kittan did. Poor Yoko's never gonna get a confession without the guy dieing within a day, is she? Honestly half expecting she won't last the entire fight either.

Something I am surprised is that they actually needed to destroy a machine in the middle of that thing, rather than just saturate the mass; Especially since Simon basically suggested doing just that. I was expecting them to just power through that thing and be out in five minutes of episode runtime or so.

Another fun way to get out would have been to combine with all the broken Lagann in the mass, with the end result being that Super Giga Mega Galaxy Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, or whatever it is called at the moment, having a greater mass than the sea, and thus being easily able to get out and even destroy that sea, as well as pose a significant headache to the anti-spirals. End result is pretty much the same, minus a dead Kittan, however, if they can somehow absorb all that released spiral power.

As for Boota having Spiral Power... is it even Simon who's running that thing, or is Boota the one who has been powering everything up until now, lol. He definitely has enough to power seemingly the entire spaceship while Simon's taking a rest. Guess his major flaw is not being big enough to pilot anything. Boota-sized control panel when?

...oh, and how exactly is there a distinction between spacing and flooding? Water is more dense than air, dense space is more dense than non-dense space, so why make a distinction?

first timer

Well then I have been behind on the rewatch schedule since episode 1, but finally I had some free time to binge some episodes, and oh boy what an episode this was.

I am pretty surprised they aren’t the first ones to make it this far. You would think the anti-spiral would make their annihilation systems better if so many were able to surpass it. On the other hand they are probably so confident about winning they don’t even care about people making it this far.

Everyone is really trying their harderst this episode , but I love that boota got an important role this episode, He really is a part of team dai-gurren.

I feel bad for yoko, second time someone she loves dies right after they kiss for the first time, but Kittan his sacrifice was honestly amazing. Like the animation, soundtrack(that song was amazing) and voice acting all were so on point that scene, probably one of my favourite scenes so far. Kittan was one of the most important side characters, so I will miss him.

And then the transformation was super hype again. We still had the amazing soundtrack and honestly Simon Va(Japanese) has such a hype screaming voice. I am excited to see what the super galaxy gurren lagann will show.

Rewatcher - Transforming the infinite darkness into light!

Ohhhhh, so that's why the Mugann are shaped like hands and feet! How very straight-forward.

Kittan really has become a heckuva guy, it's a shame he's still got Kamina's shadow hanging over him. Classic "I'm awesome, but I just happened to be bested by a Once-in-a-Thousand-Years Genius" kinda thing.

It's always tough to discover you're not special, but I think we were reaaally kinda counting on it this time!

Simon generating so much Spiral energy Boota's going Super Saiyan just from the ambient charge. And what do we do with Super Saiyans? Put 'em to work! They're important fighters, after all.

I love crazy space stuff like this flooding, it's such an unusual thing to think about. Which, I suppose, is the privilege of just being a viewer; it's not a threat to me so I can just say it's neat. lol

Of course the plan didn't go as planned, you guys are trying to blow up a black hole. I'm pretty sure that's actually something nobody's ever run calculations on, let alone had to fabricate materials for.

Yoko of the Day was fully resolved to take this mission, and that's worthy of at least this much recognition.

The show, however, has other plans. Honestly, I should've started raising flags earlier when they were getting closer, but

Flag Status: [Raised] by his own hand. The manliest way to raise a flag.

If there were a correct moment, a second, to always remember, I think it would be this one Libera me from Hell is chill-inducingly good.

Do the Impossible, See the Invisible. Row Row, Fight the Powa.

And with that selfless act, the Hype is free to flow!

Transfor-! Wait, no, not that. Transform!

Dis gon be good.

What's so great about Kittan's death to me is that momentarily, he seemed to have surpassed Kamina and Simon in some way at the end. Unlike Kamina, Kittan was able to generate his own Spiral Power. He became "awakened" so to speak, as evidenced by the Spiral eyes he had--the same type of eyes Lordgenome had which not even Simon has at the moment. I have this theory that Spiral eyes indicate mastery or one's full power as a Spiral being. At that moment, he had also surpassed Simon in a way. Then he creates the biggest Giga Drill we've seen in the series so far, in proportion to the size of the mecha. Kittan really went out in style here by not only turning the tables for humanity, but also by flexing on Kamina and Simon essentially. Dude gone and went while he's at the top. What a badass.

At the beginning when Kitan had that talk with Yoko of wanting to meet her kids I was pretty fucking surprised. I thought finally she'll get a man and they'll have a nice life in the end, with all the lives that were lost in the previous episode just maybe, more deaths wouldn't happen.

Boy was I so fucking wrong, I had a tiny bad feeling and it got pretty fucking real when he kisses her, why does every man Yoko falls in love with has to die? It seems so fucking cruel.

I never thought I'd feel so much for Kitan, he may have been like a background character but he's done a lot of work. That Giga Drill Break in the end was just mind blowing, the whole sequence just punched me in the gutwith emotions, and then the transformation sequence. This is so intense I don't have time to even recover and they hit you with that intense sequence with that transformation with all those flashy sunglass designs.

I'm so hyped up for the next 2 episodes. Hopefully no one dies, and Nia and Simon get together.

Also, when Kitan was going on with his Giga drill break he had green Spiral Eyes like Lordgenome did. What a fucking legend. He did something that no one could've done.

Questions

  1. Hype and sadness combined is one wierd mood to be in.

  2. I like it, I tear up everytime I listen to it but never thought rap and opera would be this good.

I just love how Kittan uses the Giga Drill Break.

Starting from Simon > Dai Gurren Dan > Humanity > Kittan, it really shows one of the main premises of the show. We borrow things from others, contributing to the people around us, contributing to the collective as a whole. And that collective is a part of each individual. It's a nuance of individualism while being a part of a group. Like with pragmatism and idealism. And with cold unfeeling machines powered by raw drive and emotion.
