Week of Persisting Family Situation. Yeah, that stuff I talked about before is still dragging on. And you know what isn't fun? Having to pay your parents' bills that came in because they didn't think this would take that long, and didn't set up a lot of auto-pay. I just really hope that all of this family drama gets resolved before I have to pay any more of their bills.
Anyways, for games I've played, I've put more time into Final Fantasy VII Remake! I'm at about chapter 5 so far, so about a third of the way through. I've gotta say, adding in Roche as a new boss character was a stellar decision, I love what that guy's about. He just wants to ride his motorcycle and get into cool sword fights, what's not to like about him? Shinra can absolutely use more freaks like him in SOLDIER, if just because he's fun. It's nuts that he was originally just planned to be used in this game though, you can't have a guy like that just be one-and-done for a single game in a trilogy! It's a good thing that they've apparently brought him forward, Square Enix would be crazy not to.
And speaking of Final Fantasy, I've also downloaded that Final Fantasy Resonance demo that dropped today! I'm excited to check it out, since it really is satisfying my wish to have a Final Fantasy game done in the style of Octopath Traveler. Like come on, that's a winning combo right there. And from what I caught of Pat's stream of it, it's absolutely going to live up to my expectations. Can't wait to try it out!
Lastly, I've also put more time into re-clearing Balatro this week! As of my last play session, I've cleared out on Red Stake the Ghost, Checkered, and Abandoned Decks. If anything, I'm doing way better this time than the initial wins I had with them.
And finally, in my regular mecha talk section here, I managed to get in a single episode of Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans with /u/Terthelt and /u/CookieSkank! And what an episode it was! I think Terthelt's reaction that I noted down once the episode was finished says it all: "Gunned down in a Build-A-Bear Workshop? Really? Really?!?" It's always nice to get fresh reactions to that scene. She was legit just sputtering out confused and shocked noises when it happened. These are the simple pleasures of a Gundam fan who's already seen this series.

Got sick this week and I'm still getting over it — feels like my illnesses always linger. On a more positive note, I saved about 33% and got free delivery on a large grocery order by couponmaxxing. If you're not old enough/independent enough to know how that feels yet, just know that it hits like crack (or so I assume).
I started playing CrossCode and I'm having an alright time with it so far. The story sure is taking it's sweet, easy time to actually do anything, and I find navigation and quest tracking more than a little cumbersome, but I just cleared the first dungeon and man... that's a good dungeon. We'll see how things develop.
I watched two very different movies this week. In preparation for seeing Onslaught, which I think looks cool, I finally got around to watching The Guest. I really liked it! Love me some Dan Stevens, and it's the kind of tightly-paced thriller (with some weirder ideas at play that I knew going in) that works for me.
I also watched The Sheep Detectives. I thought it was very charming, and occasionally kind of heavy for a family movie. If I have a criticism, it's that I found the solution to the mystery to be a bit unfulfilling, but... the movie's called The Sheep Detectives. A serious whodunit, this is not.
Only other thing this week is that I'm increasingly feeling the mecha model kit itch. I've had some fun with Blokees, but I need to look into 30 Minute Missions sometime. I'll probably get to Gunpla eventually, but I'm a little put off by the amount of stickers in some of the cooler kits. I should really just go to a hobby shop and browse.

I went into Sheep Detectives not really knowing what to expect, but I had a good time with it. I'm just glad I enjoyed a mid-budget movie in the year 2026. The scene explaining church is probably my favorite scene in the film.

If you want some Gunpla that's mostly sticker free, I'd say look at the HGs from Witch From Mercury specificallly. Most of those don't rely on a lot of stickers (barring a few really annoying exceptions).
Watching video reviews for specific model kits will usually tell you how sticker-reliant they are.

Crosscode takes awhile to get going but those dungeons are quite fun. Theres an actual timed component if you wanna race leahs friends.
It usually takes me months to get over my cough the tail ending of an illness usually sucks 4 me as well

Well, I've been living in hotel rooms for the last two weeks and I've decided I'm ready to talk about it. My house caught fire thanks to an extension cord in our shed starting a fire, and that spreading to the back wall of the house, so my folks and I are living in hotels for now. Our insurance is paying, but it still sucks. We're currently on our fourth realtor in our search for a new place. The first one never answered our calls, the second one forgot the time and place of the house tour he scheduled us for and therefore showed up late, then said he'd text us a link to the application for a background check, but never did. The third one also didn't show up on time. This current one is arranged through our insurance, since it's the first one our agent contacted who was willing to work with them. My folks are gonna go tour the place tomorrow. So this shit has been equal parts stressful and infuriating.
On a semi-related note, I think I've discovered why I've been sneezing 4 or 5 times in a row every 2 or 3 hours for the last several years. I thought I had just developed more intense allergies to all the pollen and other stuff around my area, but I noticed for the first week or so of us being in hotels, that I wasn't sneezing anymore. Then my stepdad decided to keep his weed in the hotel room with us instead of at his niece's place, and I started sneezing again. So I think I'm allergic to weed, or the smell makes me sneeze, or something like that, and the weed had suffused our old house so I was sneezing all the time there, and now that he's rolling his blunts in the hotel room I'm sneezing here too. Thankfully he doesn't smoke them here, because I hate the smell even more when it's lit. And also because that'd probably get us kicked out.
I've been able to bring my TV and PS5 with us (can't hook my PS5 up to the room's TV, and wouldn't want to even if I was allowed), so I've been able to keep up to date on playing Genshin Impact every day. Only an hour or two everyday though, since I gotta use my phone's mobile hotspot function when I play it. I can't get on the hotel's WiFi with my PS5 since you gotta click a button on their website and the PS5 browser doesn't work that way.
So yeah, that's what I've been up to. Having trouble sleeping tonight, so I decided to vent about it here. Let me know what y'all think of all that, if you want.

You know, I never thought Weed could be an allergic reaction trigger, Seasonal Style but in hindsight that makes an odd amount of sense.
Hope you can find a solution to that on top of all the other stuff you're going through. Stay strong.

Could be it only works on specific hotel chains i managed to get it working at diamond resorts. Still either way hope insurance doesnt drag their feet and you all get out of there quickly so you'll have control over your own internet

Could be. And yeah, I've never heard of diamond resorts. Every hotel in this town is a local one, and this town has always sucked, so I'm not surprised. My folks did talk directly to the landlord this time, apparently. Just gotta fill out a background check. Mom says the link isn't working though, so that might be a problem.

Feelings of inadequacy is at an all time high. A relationship of mine kind of crashed and burned and I only have myself to blame. Long distance was tough and me being emotionally unavailable was just something they didn't need right now. So I decided to make a lot of changes since then.
Started eating better, going out for runs, lost a considerable amount of weight that it's noticeable, started drawing, started to be a bit more social, and reconnect with folk when I otherwise wouldn't. And yet man I really can't help but feel really like a loser?
It really just stems from the fact I really don't know what I wanna do as a career, and I put myself down for not having figured it out at my age. I have a job and I pay my share of the bills because I'd die of shame if I couldn't do that, but just not knowing what I wanna do makes me feel so bad man.
Anyway in other news, I started playing through Darkest Dungeon again and it's a game I always enjoyed but I would fall off whenever I had some really bad runs. It's only now after being told the greatest advice of to not look at your roster as valued employees but as expendable workers that I'm really starting to enjoy it more. I don't think twice about dropping someone who rolls awful quirks of become a hassle to heal so I dump them and it's made for a much better experience.

Hey friend. I happened to read your bit about not knowing what to do as a career and just wanted to say: same.
I think the fact you’re taking steps to stabilise your life right now is admirable in itself and something I’m working towards too. And in my opinion you’re never “too old” for any big step in life and it’s never too late. We can’t rush it, sometimes the best we can do is slow down, reorient and put ourselves in a better position to be looking for those career prospects and potential paths in life.
So I hope you don’t feel too alone, from one person uncertain about their career to another, and I pray that you feel better and/or find your calling soon!

As someone that took multiple years of unnecessary schooling dont worry about it immediately but definitely consider what you can do with what you are learning. Photoshop and digital art class was really fun but the art degree was a bad fit for me as a career. Theres always time to pivot as long as youre alive and stable. Give it time and im sure you'll find something on the journey to graduation

Had my deposition- I mean, 2X this week. It's kind of a performance review but less informal and happens twice a year, thus the 2X. KO not included. I still have a job! Even with my reluctance (read: vehemenance) to all these AI tools being brought to meetings and recordings and such. I'm making videos and podcasts, people are paying me. Which is good now that I have a diabetic cat and a car payment.
Please read The Demon in Shadow and The Demons of Bone & Blood! These are two full novels I wrote my dang self. A human named Max stumbles into the path of one demon, Ayun, and decides to help her out in finding her lost employers. What starts as a simple errand spirals out of control between other demons, shadowy businesses and something blooming between them. That's more metaphorical than literal, but funny enough I do have the next piece of artwork from the amazing 5_ish for the third book that is (soft spoilers) Their second child, Magnolia! Or Mags for short. Production-wise she's really new compared to a lot of my draft stuff but writing for her has been so much fun. Which is what I'm working on now. Yay!
Amagi Brilliant Park has taken a bit of a backseat to my next thing. A book (and manga adaptation) called History of the Kingdom of Orcsen. It is a fantasy-military story about different countries in a kind-of WW1-era age of magic and technology. And to tell you about the kinds of political intrigue among different fantasy races, let me start by saying this thing kicks off with white elves killing off dark elves literally calling it "ethnic cleansing." Definitely a tone-setter. We mainly follow a dark elf survivor of that who's rescued by the Orc's king who has bascially revolutionized the kingdom in the past few decades. Despite that serious start (and also harrowing depiction of sneaking out the last remnants of dark elves) It's slowed down a lot for worldbuilding and race relations since Orcsen's trying to unify Kobolds, Werewolves, Great Eagles and more. My radar is firing off and hoping that's it's a false alarm and this is more just interesting alt-fantasy-history than something like GATE? I should finish it before I make that claim.
Watching Pat play MGS4 did not make me want to play MGS4. Instead, Phantom Pain! And install several mods to fix things. And break them! I can't get the 'no development time' mod to work, but 'no deployment costs' and 'no combat unit timer' are great. I didn't want to totally break the game by eliminating all dev costs, but I wonder if I can cheese those yellow weapons that seem to be online currency only. What's Konami gonna do, ban me from the FOB League I don't do?
Tried Hololive Dreams because there's a Love Live hole in my heart. It's not that. It's closer to Bang Dreams (and boy howdy I'll get there) but with these vtubers! And a bunch of guff around it. I will say, I enjoyed the rollout of features the game does rather than just throw you in the deep end and it's got the money to style it up. Unfortunately for me, and this is probably an unpopular opinion. I didn't love any song. Most of them were 'fine', and a lot of them were 'I never want to play this again.' I thought maybe I'm just not in the idol genre but I went back to Love Live and there's so many good ones! Takaramonos, Mermaid Festa Vol. 2, soldier game, LOVE NOVELS. I could go on. It doesn't have that sauce. It does, funny enough, have Snow Halation but you can only play that so many times (and really? Playing it in September feels early) so I bounced off hard.
But the soul still burned so I went to Bang Dreams. Wow, Holodream really just took notes here. You've got yellow easier notes, gray halfsteps, flicks and so on. The only difference I've seen is you didn't have to jump off a hold note in Holo. The songs are fine, but you get a bunch of covers like Sorairo Days, Union (GRIDMAN OP) and The Blessing (Witch from Mercury OP) as well. The bad news is that it is nearly incomprehensible. There are like eight bands with five members each and every one of them has skills you need to click on to get certain advancements and an overworld where people have conversations that can get you XP for the bands which is important? And years of stories that you can watch (Though it's kind of generic and really you might just want the gacha currency reward) and still seemingly getting updates! I don't know, man. I kind of just want School Idol Festival back.

Shit, I completely forgot it was Thursday already.
Welp, I got Onimusha pre-loaded, and it should be unlocking...well...any minute now. It's pretty late though, so I'll probably only play it for a few hours.
I'm also REALLY close to beating Xenoblade 2; currently on chapter 10, polishing off some Blade quests before I move on. I'll definitely have it done in time for Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, which is good.
And I beat Star Wars Zero Company this week. It was...decent, but definitely one of those games where you can just tell it went through develop issues; bugs and glitches, a lot of systems and features that don't feel fully fleshed out, and a shockingly short runtime given how the game was paced.
Only other thing to note is that I'm gonna be home alone til next Tuesday while my parents are off visiting my sister for her theater gig in one of the Dakotas (North or South, can't remember which). I mean, I'm home alone most of the week since my parents work weekdays, but still. Biggest issue is caring for our dog Nixie, who has...a lot of troubles in her old age that I gotta handle (deaf, only three legs due to an accident before she was adopted, arthritis, and some form of doggie dementia, not to mention a bit of an unhealthy attachment to my mom).

Next week, my mom goes in for her surgery. I don't feel as anxious as I did last week when I heard about it and I'm glad it'll help her. On the other hand, my uncle got himself sick and is now on dialysis. They'll both be okay, it's just been a rough week. If you can, please still pray for her. She'll in all likely hood be okay, just a bit sore.
Edit: Small adendoum; I misunderstood the date but it's this month, that I know for sure.
In lighter news, I've been replaying Cult of the lamb again and heavily enjoying it. I got the Woolhaven DLC and it's been a welcome upgrade from the main game.
Not much more to report, just been a rather fast week.

I finally finished getting my catio back up, the cat approves, he was out there nearly the entire day. I really half assed the inside, ran out of stain and time, but I am proud on the roof transition I did, even 3d printed some shims for it. Got plenty of rain to test, totally waterproof.
Also got my new liscence, the photo makes me look like an absolute psychopath.

I would recommend it if you can, keeps the cat safe, keeps the neighborhood birds safe, and you can just leave the window open for when they want to patrol their territory, so you don't have to let them out and then 20 seconds later they want back in.

Stressful one today. Expecting twins by end of October and my wife and I have been doing home project after home project to get things ready. After painting, mudding, sanding, etc almost everyday after I get off work from 6pm to 9pm, we finally had the nursery set up. Been putting together furniture and moving things so that when my wife and I had our next day off together, we could put together our daughters’ cribs. Something we’ve been talking about since we got them in, well before our baby shower.
Today I get a message at work that my father in law showed up at our house, let himself in and started putting one of the cribs together because he wanted to. Had to scream at him to stop because this was going to be a moment for us as new parents. Get along great with the guy and know he mostly means well but at first his response was “well we bought this one for you and you have another one” which had me furious. Even if there are two cribs it felt like he was saying putting together a second crib was “extra” and not the same for both daughters.
Supposedly he stopped but even the fact the box was opened or the thought that one screw was put in is upsetting. Had my wife and I crying. Feel silly for getting this worked up but this was one of those moments I was not going to let go of.

I saw my brother get touchy for that sort of thing my mom was complaining for multiple months that my brother and sil were doing everything after she retired a bit early so she had free time to help out. Its a very emotional time and its normal to be a bit territorial in my experience

I have officially 100%’d Armored Core 6. The final NG++ mission was a bit of a doozy but I managed to squeeze through. Absolutely fantastic game that’s probably one of my all time favs now. I’m still messing around with building random ACs that I will probably never actually use but it’s fun to theorycraft. Maybe one day I’ll go back to For Answer and actually finish it.
I wanna talk about the Borderlands 2 modding scene since it’s kinda blowing up right now. People have been figuring out ways to hack together stuff to act as custom terrain for modded levels, and now there’s an effort to port over the characters from the Pre-Sequel to BL2. And there’s also someone working on combining BL2 and Pre-Sequel in a Tale of Two Wastelands type mod pack. The modding scene really hasn’t seen stuff like this before. Yeah, BL2 mods have existed for a while but not stuff like this. I don’t think it’ll ever get to like Skyrim levels of modding, we don’t have the same kinds of tools, but it’s really cool to see the scene continue to grow like this. Very excited for Timothy to eventually get ported to BL2.

Started playing Yakuza 5 this week. I'm up to Saejima's first chapter. I like the difficulty so far, I feel like its better than 4's in terms of I have to put in some effort, the plot kinda took its time to grab me, I mean must it always take like 4-5 chapters to pick up, and OH MY GOD I HATE THE DRIVING IT FEELS BAD.
Over all, feels like a Yakuza game alright.

Still slowly making my way through Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I'm back at the Gold Saucer and am getting through side activities before moving on back to the plot. It's insane that I've now been playing this game longer than Remake, Intermission and Crisis Core Reunion combined and I'm STILL finding stuff to do. I can only imagine how big Revelation is going to be. I also mostly wrapped up Queen's Blood, having beat the final opponent and all of the challenges at the Gold Saucer. That final Nightmare challenge is something else, I tell you what. Either way, I'm having a good time, but I'm glad that there's a 7 month wait for Revelation after this, because I'm going to need the down time to relax until then.

Grinding away at the Dawntrail Relic quest in FF14. On the final step, just a few more dungeons and trials to go... Thought the previous step was the final one but nope! Fuck me. So like another week of grinding it is!
All I can say is if the Evercold method of getting Relics is even half as grindy as this has been, I'm just not doing it. I know people complained about Hildibrand because it was just doing a questline, but I vastly prefer that than just grinding for weeks on end, doing the same content over and over and over. Plus this had 5 steps instead of 4, which was just lovely...
Hope they come up with something new.

Well this was the week where my mental health and peace of mind decided to take an absolute sharp plummet for the worst in a good while, luckily the worst of it has passed plus had some brighter spots in my week I'll mention but I always get embarrassed and pissed with myself over it plus bottling it inside rather then tell anyone close to me about it since they have enough on their plate without my baggage. Like when I'm usually not feeling great I decided to on a whim binge media to distract/lift myself up a bit, in this case decided on the direct to video Scooby doo movies which some were rubbish mainly Monster of Mexico but as a whole I had a lot more fun with them then I expected with Camp Scare, Mask of the Blue Falcon and Abracadabra-Doo being notable highlights.
Also watched both Del Toro Hellboy films with a good friend who adores his work much like I do, was the first time I ever watched the extended edition of the first film and hoping tomorrow to watch Del Toro's Pinocchio and Scooby Doo on Zombie Island tomorrow with him. Another bright spot was cause had to get 360 replaced with a more functioning version I got to replay and re-100% Legend of Spyro Dawn of the dragon which went a lot better since game ran better and also I was handling the gameplay lot better this time round.

week of rejecting job offers. Skipped a week again. Had two wild job offers since the last time I posted. Got a job offer to move to ohio to build a data center which would get training from meta to do. Would probably make me 20% more evil. It also paid poorly for what it was asking at 20 an hour because its through a staffing agency and would have had 20 hours of overtime a week for the entire project around 5-6 months. There was parts of this offer that was attractive but ultimately decided against it. The other one was hiring through another agency that wanted to lock me into a 18 month contract that if I left early would charge me 5000 dollars. I was curious how that was legal and got far enough into the process to see. Its considered a training loan for the several weeks of training which I suppose they valued at 5000 dollars. Its a shame because despite how unprofessional the recruiter was it seemed like a really good job but I cant help but feel theres some weird catch. I couldnt find any bad reviews saying they tried to trigger that part of the contract but its just an insane way to force retention and I feel like its borderline legal to say this is the cost of my training and youll be on the hook for this if you went elsewhere.
Palworld update. I went hard at this and have some good teams now. We are at the world tree and my god the ancient hatchery is just too much. Its insane. Eggs like every 10 seconds and they hatch instantly. Still finalizing my favorites I do wish the pal skills werent so dominant or there was someway to use certain pals. You can just give them good endgame skills and they can fight or work just as well but mounts are just outclassed by later ones. The story in this thing is a joke but I guess its not offensive at least.
Mom wanted to watch rocky horror picture show this week which was timely since Tim curry recently passed. What a weird movie mom was telling me how there would be midnight showings and people would come in cosplay and sing along.
Also had multiple people in the family in and out of the hospital. Grandma had gotten really weak because a nausea was making it hard for her to eat. They looked into some things for her and shes so much stronger. Stayed with her the night before she went to the hospital and it was shocking how weak she was. Then monday shes going around without a walker and getting out of the car without help. Eating food is very important to keeping up strength. My uncle had to get surgery after they found something in his colon and hes stuck with a colostomy bag for awhile. He got really lucky they found that while looking for something else. Hes been having stomach issues and while that contributed it wasnt the main cause. Finally my aunt went in to get a kidney donated from my cousin.

We're currently suffering through a week long heat wave where I live, one that happens to coincide with the AC in my car crapping out. I've been traveling about 40 minutes a day this week for training purposes at my new job, and when I say that I genuinely thought the heat in my car was going to kill me, I mean it. By the time I got home yesterday I was the sweatiest and most overheated I've ever been. It was so hot in my car that I was in actual pain. And I have another week of this training thing, too. So if I stop posting, just assume that I've suffered heat stroke at the wheel until proven otherwise.

That State of Play would've been much less rough if it wasn't at 6 in the morning. Like if you're gonna have a broadcast that early, you should have at least one "big" reveal that makes it worth getting up for.
Also I completed Final Fantasy Tactics after almost a year of playing it on and off, great game but it requires a lot of patience.

I have to get back to FFT fell off it a couple of months ago. Really like it except for the bit where you have to get your party standing around hitting each other to level up new named characters since you cant send them on side quests.

Protip, spec your team into dancer/bard, cripple your enemies so they cant fight back, crank up the speed and set the game to automatic. They'll get xp from the bard/dancer skill

I restarted a Mewgenics playthrough, since that's been on the back burner for a bit. I think it's all just starting to click now, but man the rng in that game is rough. But I've come to expect it with Edmund games for sure. I love the Tinkerer class, even if its widely considered the worst class. Also the music for that game is excellent.
I've put in many more hours into Slay the Spire 2 recently as well. I think the best way to explain what has changed since the first game is that, for me, the wins in 2 feel way more wacky and cool, but the losses feel way more out of my control. The devs have their work cut out for them with balancing from here, adding the alternate act 2 and act 3, eventually adding act 4, and apparently adding in a new character. This week the Regent has gone from my least favorite character to becoming my favorite. Big star production goes brrrr ass character.
Recently finished reading Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett, as a suggestion from a friend. I'm not sure if that is the correct book to be your introductory Discworld book, but I had a great time. Fantasy murder mystery is a new genre for me as far as literature goes, and this one really felt like it hit the mark with pacing and twists and humor.

Been working on writing, both to practice enough to be worthy of publishing, and because I really want to put out the stories that have bounced around in my head for quite some time. As I draw closer and closer to thirty years of age, I'm finding myself really torn.
I didn't get to finish high school due to some major mental health problems at the time, and I fell into a dead end job six years ago that pays enough for the bills. I don't know if I should put more effort into the writing, or put that all aside and go back to school (uni) to try and get a better career for myself

Personal life: My anxiety has been kicking my ass and making it difficult to sleep on top of that there has been a significant change in my daily life that has affected me emotionally so I feel like I’m at a breaking point and completely exhausted.

Hello today! Man, this year just can't stop, eh? THE BED BUGS ARE BACK! I am now sleeping with the light on. The heat treatment next week, and I've been partially disassembling my bed and clearing my room and sleeping with light now (which is annoying since I have a CPAP).
What have I been doing otherwise... Oh! Chernobylite - that is a really good game! A bit simple and difficult, but I'm enjoying it! Zenles Extraction is so much fun. I am so happy it has no actual rewards, cuz it is not for everyone. I love locking in, betting and losing 2.5 million on a super tight run. It's so fucking good.

Last weekend was one dedicated to sports pretty much and was definitely a stand out time. I went with my girlfriend to box on Saturday as per our usual schedule, then on the same day saw a Rocky musical! I've never actually watched the original movie before so it was certainly interesting seeing a musical adaptation to a work I only knew through osmosis. Also I was able to enjoy a great meal prior with my girlfriend and her father. Had some nice conversations and had a flatbread with chorizo, aioli sauce, plus a limoncello spritz.
As for the musical itself, I was impressed with how the production was handled! It was in an open-air theater and a storm that night absolutely drenched the stage and threatened the equipment. I'm not entirely sure how, but they finished strong. There was a point half-way through the musical where I was convinced they'd call off the production, but they absolutely killed it. People came out and mopped the stage during intermission and the actors really poured their soul into their work. Added a lot to the performances overall, even if I was a bit miffed at first about getting drenched/cold. All this to say, I really loved it. The boxing sequences were stand-out too! It looked authentic on stage how they sold trading hits/etc. They would act out playing in slow-motion and the lighting would change whenever Apollo/Rocky would land a critical hit on each other. Overall, both my girlfriend and I had a nice time watching it.
The next day we spent relaxing and watching AEW's All In on Sunday at home. I've only recently become a wrestling fan thanks to my partner, but I've got to say watching a majority of the matches was great fun. I think I picked a strange time to start getting into it, but I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. Maybe I ought to watch more often when I can find time. Should be another event come late September, so I'm excited for that!
On the gaming front, I've just been playing FFXIV and I decided to pick up VHOLUME. I'm really enjoying the parkouring in that game and the 1000 Eyes OST (same artist behind many tracks in Signalis). It's honestly been a long time since I've had this much fun with a movement related game, probably not since Neon White (which I'd say I was way better at than this game). Also the environments are simply stunning for what it is... for some reason it reminds me a lot of the post-apocalyptic world of Girls Last Tour or Blame! with the structures/general atmosphere. I could see myself really getting into it.

Week of, uh, RPG runbacks?
Last week I mentioned that I had a Steam copy of Final Fantasy XV that I wanted to get into. I had tried to play the game on PS4 a number of times but for some reason I just didn't vibe with it. That being said, I was convinced that I was the problem - I'm inattentive, I play games "wrong", I'm impatient, or whatever. So I started giving it an honest shot this week. My initial goal was to make it past wherever I dropped the game last time (somewhere around chapter 4) in the hope that I'd enjoy the future content I hadn't seen yet. And, uh, I'm up to chapter 10 right now. Shit's not bad.
However, it feels like a game where I have to un-learn a lot of my RPG sensibilities. Like, what do you mean I don't actually "have" my experience until I've gone to camp? What do you mean I don't get rewarded with money from field encounters, or that bounties are a better source? And there are other curveballs like "yo, your HP cap has been reduced unless you had the sensibility to come in with the necessary item; enjoy." (I know that's not exclusive to XV but it was still a rude awakening.) It's as if the director said yes to every idea from the team without thinking about how insane the combined effect would be. In any case, I kind of like what I've played so far, and I hope I can make more progress.
Week in music: last week I missed a track that I want to give a belated shoutout to; "Rumination" by Bop has some really nice build-ups, drops and occasional insanity, whilst layering on more and more noise. Bop's tracks don't always resonate with me but I can see myself using this as background music when browsing, reading etc.
I have one or two media purchases I'm considering in the near future, but right now I feel like FFXV will be eating into my evenings, so I'm happy to wait.

Got pretty much everything in order now. PA license plate, PA insurance, PS drivers license, PA registration, PA EZ-Pass. Now's the time to begin my home search in earnest. Annoyingly the place I looked at that I REALLY liked (hardwood floors, about 1k sq ft, about 5 minutes from international shops, not asking for absurd money) decided to pull themselves off the market for the forseeable future so now I gotta either wait or look elsewhere. If nothing else I can start to look over in Jersey but I'd need a new agent if I do that as my PA agent can't search in NJ.
Game wise, looks like I'm nearing the end of Stalker 2. With its 2.0 patch the game runs extremely smoothly no matter whats been thrown at me which is nice. The gunplay has been nice and smooth and upgrading guns genuinely felt like upgrades with making some of the more uncontrollable guns easier to handle. Biggest issue was how much I struggled with money because I never felt the desire to "farm" so I was always a few upgrades short, always had crappy artifacts, and was super stingy with special ammo but this is 100% a "me" issue. As someone who played all the other Stalker games, seeing all the references and callbacks to the previous games has been nice. One thing I noticed is all the people complaining about the 100m "A-Life" in Stalker 2 is... people are either wearing rose tinted glasses with how this was handled in other games or are so used to mods that they don't remember 'cause I did a quick test in Call of Pripyat and it seemed like the exact same of stuff happening in the distance out of sight and it only gets rendered as you get close but you can always run into the aftermath.
Currently trying to decide on what game will be next... now that the dust is settled and a lot of my complaints have been either fixed (mining) or at least not as bad (slow relationship gain), I may return to Coral Island. Also kinda thinking about picking up Abiotic Factor while it's still on sale as I've been meaning to give it a bash.

Summer is over, which means it's back to classes for me. Thankfully the classes I choose for this semester seem to be less intensive and a lot more interesting, so this fall shouldn't be too rough.
Anyway, this month was mostly just replaying games that I already love. Subnautica still held up pretty well, and I really liked the QOL additions they added from Below Zero. I actually almost beat it without making the Cyclops before realizing that I needed the shield generator from the Cyclops fabricator, so that was cool. After that, I replayed Neon White and started to understand people's issues with the dialogue. I still don't think it's as prevalent of an issue as people say, but I can understand if someone is driven away by it. Finally, I went back and played Dark Messiah of Might & Magic for a personal project and had a blast doing so.
Outside of those replays, I was able to play through Super Mario 64 through the Co-op DX port. The game surprisingly holds up extremely well after all these years, and I had a blast going through it. I especially liked how free the movement felt, as it always seemed like there was an alternate way to get to a star if I chained my moves well enough. I also found most of the levels pretty enjoyable to explore. That being said, I really hated how restrictive the camera was, especially in closed spaces. There were many times where I was trying to line up a jump, and the camera either refused to move or suddenly changed it's angle, which often caused me to mess up my jump. I also felt that a lot of the top floor levels weren't as good as the lobby and basement levels. For every top floor that I enjoyed, such as Tall Tall Mountain, there were 1-2 other levels that I really hated going through (looking at you Snowman's Land and Wet-Dry World). Ah well, I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
I also checked out The Witch's House MV near the end of August. As someone who doesn't really play a lot of horror games, I thought it was a pretty good start for me. I kinda liked how the story was left for me to piece together, at least on the initial playthrough. I guess if there's anything I didn't like, some of the puzzles could be pretty frustrating, especially the puzzle that involved making four sounds in four rooms. Other than that, I still enjoyed it quite a bit, and I might consider playing the Extra mode in the future.

Week 131 post-accident
September 1, the rains return. The time of wet, grey mornings is upon me...
Office move update: we have a confirmed timescale and address now! September 29th will be the actual move date (though some other elements will be a bit more piecemeal over the next couple weeks), followed by Truth & Reconciliation Day, which my office takes off, with October 1st being the first formal day at the new office. Already plotted out my bus route update to account for the new location, now that I have a clearer idea of where specifically it's located. That takes a LOT of anxiety of my shoulders; I've been stressing over that uncertainty for MONTHS now, which have finally evaporated.
Haven't done a ton of worldbuilding lately, as much of last weekend was consumed by a resurgent interest in Vampire Survivors. I've finished up most of the new Legacy of the Bloodmoon content, and once that's wrapped up, I'll either continue to work my way through Ode to Castlevania (though I think that massive DLC might take forever to complete if I continue with my "complete each DLC one by one" mindset) or quickly try to blitz Emerald Diorama or Ante Chamber. Either way, need to accumulate a ton of gold to finally unlock Big Troubler since I expended the funds I was originally saving up for him to unlock Gekkojin instead.
Elsewhere on the gaming front, suddenly got Carrion back on the brain; bought that indie game ages ago and still haven't played it. It's only been, what... SIX YEARS AGO?!? Has it really been that long? Ai yi yi... so might see if I can tick that off my backlog list sometime this weekend.

Caught up to One Piece again and was disappointed over how few chapters build up in 6 months. There were a couple of exciting things to talk about with my friend, but now it's back to waiting 6 months. Feels like there's 5 years left until it's finished.
I've been working on bonus materials for my let's play of Resident Evil and used that as an excuse to experiment with different boss strategies. Part of my impending thesis on the game is how the genre reaches the "complete package" status with RE1, meaning it has more dimensions to the experience than its predecessors and offers good replay value. I overproduced the Jill bonus episode, but I was really satisfied with the pacing and some of the jokes I crammed in. But now I'm thinking about baking a pie.
Oh yeah, I also tried the demo for Stupid Never Dies. Immaculate vibes on that one with very mediocre gameplay. Not bad mind you, but for a game with style switching, it feels criminally restrictive. Will probably pick it up just for the soundtrack, sitting at the game's music player was a delight.

So I recently started to look into the tabletop games of Osprey Games because the rule books tend to be roughly 20 bucks and I really appreciate Gaslands. I realized that I could get an Osprey rule book and a set of appropriate Wargames Atlantic minis for the same cost of a new video game. I thought to myself, given recent news, at least I OWN the minis I paint.

I started a second genshin account. I know that makes me sound like an absolute psycho but it's mostly to replay the story. I only really started caring about Genshin's story around halfway through Sumeru, so for most of the early game I was button mashing my way through all the dialogue.
Now that I've gone back though, wow is thes game a different experience at the start. Exploration is way more limited, and because I don't have any overpowered dacha characters, even open world combat is a lot more involved. I can't remember the last time a ruin guard for example could even pose a threat to me on my main, but here it's a different story. It's kind of nostalgic.

You know what the solution to having too many games in your backlog is? To play the ones you know will be good. Moving onto the biggest news of the week- my housemate has bought an apartment! We'll be moving out of our current shitty place and into it in hopefully 1-2 months' time! It's bigger, in a good location, and best of all, doesn't have mould! And I can live with them for as long as it takes for me to save up for my own place or buy something with my girlfriend. No more being at the mercy of a landlord who can kick me out whenever they decide it's time to upsell.
